I don't really ONLY want new themes... I'm fine with an assortment of old AND new!

I'm not really strict on any of my answers. I said yes to graphics, but didn't say vids because it would depend on how they were used. As a challenge response yes, but to write a fic inspired by a vid no. I'm good with new and old challenge ideas or maybe mostly new with a yearly amnesty.

Yeah, the vids would be for a challenge response, not to inspire fic.

Cool, thanks for your answers! A yearly amnesty's a good idea.

The questions I left blank were because I had no preference... and I've only participated in one challenge so only voted for that one, though I look forward to more... :)

A lot of these questions could have used an "I don't care either way" option.

Would you prefer to have all challenge entries posted in one place only?

I think these comms are one of the only things that keeps the LJ & IJ fandoms from being completely at odds with each other.

So whatever keeps them more united the better. I'm not sure if that's posting to both places, or posting to IJ only with pointers to IJ from LJ. But whichever you choose, I do think both places should at least have notices pointing to the fics, where ever they are posted.

Would you like to see more challenges incorporating graphics?

I don't really care, as I'm not really into the graphics, but if that's what inspires the writers the most, I say bring it on!

Would you like a repeat of past themes?

Sure, why not? But I don't care either way as long as people keep writing good fic. :)

Would you like to have a team challenge, with 2 or more participants tackling each theme?

Again, I don't care either way -- whatever inspires the writers.

Do you leave comments on entries? Why?

Yes, most of the time. On LJ & IJ anyway where it's easy. I admit I rarely do it on the archive sites or by emailing authors who post to websites.

I try to comment on all challenge fics I read, but I'll often not leave comments for non-challenge fics I don't like.

Would you like to post your own entries?

If I were an author, I'd want to do it myself, but as a reader, as long as they're posted correctly, with appropriate cuts etc. I don't care who does it.

There is usually about 4-5 weeks given to participants before entries are due.

Makes no nevermind to me how long is given. Whatever works for the authors and those running the challenges.

Readers, would you prefer to keep the challenges anonymous?

I don't care either way, whatever the authors want. But if they are anonymous, I'd like at least 2-3 weeks before the names are revealed so I have time to read them before the reveal. Otherwise the anonymous thing is more trouble than it's worth for me as a reader.

Your fave challenge so far, and why?

I've loved 'em all so far, though I haven't had a chance to get to any of the new ones from the recent challenge yet. Again, anything that inspires good writers to write good fic is great by me! And I think it's particularly fun when the challenges somehow inspire new ideas, new angles, things we haven't seen before, use of the whole gang in addition to B/J, etc. rather than more of the same.

Most importantly, many thanks to all the organizers of and participants in all these challenges for bringing us all so much great new fic!

Oh, and I really have no interest in vids as responses to challenges -- there are so few out there that have ever really interested me, it's an effort wasted on me -- but if others do, by all means go for it!

A lot of these questions could have used an "I don't care either way" option.

I figured those who don't care very much wouldn't bother voting anyway. There's not much to be learned from someone ticking "I don't care".

I'm not sure if that's posting to both places, or posting to IJ only with pointers to IJ from LJ. But whichever you choose, I do think both places should at least have notices pointing to the fics, where ever they are posted.

There would be links to the fics posted at the other comm, just not the fics themselves, so as to save me time.

if they are anonymous, I'd like at least 2-3 weeks before the names are revealed so I have time to read them before the reveal.

I think readers would probably be all for that, but the authors not so much. I think we're all bursting to reveal ourselves and it's hard enough to wait five days. WRITERS! Who agrees/disagrees?

Thanks for your answers!

I'm pretty flexible on all my answers, but I do really like the anonymity. I think it is a great way for new writers to get their foot in the door. Also it's my preference to have new themes, but I think repeating some of the old ones would be fun too.

I forgot... I voted no on team challenges but I guess it would depend on how it worked. Would we still have the option of doing a solo fic? If we worked together would it be on one fic for the team or more like the CF challenge where the team produces multiple entries?

The current challenge is my first and I have to say I think the anonymity aspect is fun and challenging! It's fun to try to match the other writers with their fics, it's fun to get unbiased feedback, yet it is really hard to not respond to that feedback! I think it is too big a part of the whole experience to take away that aspect of the challenge, though.

I really loved reading all the challenges that involved another element, such as, Challenge in Two Parts, Small Things Made Large, and the Icon Challenges. And when I was reading them, I thought about how much fun it must have been to write those fics with the additional challenge of tying your fic to some other body of work. So these are the types of challenges that intrigue me the most.

I LOVE the idea of a team challenge!!!

And as I am new, all the themes are new to me.

You know what I am just so thrilled people are willing to give their time and talent to the QAF fandom I enjoy everything. One of the people rarely recognised are the proof readers/beta's without these wonderful folks many writers would be reluctant to put there fiction out there, thanks guys :)Chris

Okay. I left some blank because, yeah, new to fandom and all. The repeating themes/fav theme... *shrugs* I've only been around for the one, so they're all pretty much new to me.

I also left the commenting question blank. If I read it, I comment. But, I don't read everything. Certain things I just can't read, so I needed a different ticky - "Yes, everything I actually read."

Now that said, if you open it up to teams and vids and... and... and... and need/want some help, you know where to find me. *g*

This is a response from a newbie (only a couple months into QAF) and a reader only due to my complete lack of creativity. However... I've read enough fic over the past couple of months to earn me at least a little credit, I think. Hopefully you find these answers helpful.

Would you like to see more challenges incorporating graphics? Yes, and vids too. The talent is amazing. I can't imagine the time involved to make these.

Would you like a repeat of past themes? Yes What the theme meant to a writer years ago could be something completely different. And with new writers, there's always going to be something new. I'm boggled by the things all these minds on here can come up with!

Would you like to have a team challenge, with 2 or more participants tackling each theme? Yes. I read a LONG fic by 2 authors with one writing Brian POV and one writing Justin POV and it was amazing. Of course my memory will not let me recall the name of it, but I think it would be great to see this in a challenge.

Do you leave comments on entries? Why? Yes, just on the ones I like. Even if the authors don't reply (which is fine!), I like to let them know what I liked and didn't like, and what about the entry left me completely incoherent and drooling afterwards. Someone above said something to the effect of "I'd rather the authors spend time writing than responding to all the comments" - I totally agree!

Would you like to post your own entries? n/a

There is usually about 4-5 weeks given to participants before entries are due. That is long enough

Readers, would you prefer to keep the challenges anonymous? Yes! I haven't been here long enough to recognize the writing or more than 1 or 2 writers, but I hope to get there! I wouldn't want to NOT read something just because I might not have enjoyed a previous fic by them and anonymity takes the possible bias out of it.

Your fave challenge so far, and why? Hurt/Comfort and Clusterfuck Challenge.

Hope it's okay that I stuck my nose in here and gave more detail. Tx!

I think it would be awesome to include vids as a way to meet the challenge-it would provide a different outlet for creativity (for those who are so inclined).

I am kinda unclear on how a team challenge would work-so I didn't vote for it. Would it be like a team writes one fic, or each member produces a chapter(s) of the larger work? I think it could be interesting, but possibly very hard to make work...

I only said the Weather/Vacation challenge was my favorite because it is the only one I have participated in. I enjoyed reading all of the others. I think it would be fun to have an annual Christmas/New Years challenge or maybe a "Justin Day" challenge or something like that. I'm also up for new topics!

I really like the anonymity, as long as it isn't forever (5 days or so, seems like a good amount of time). Its rather fun trying to guess who wrote what!

Oh! I have a suggestion on the anonymous postings.

1. I think it's really important that the posts all be posted by a mod or host of the challenge. Too messy and inconsistent without that. Plus it conflicts with the anonymous aspect, because some people have tells, etc.

2. I would suggest that in the initial posting the beta(s) remain anonymous. I have to be honest, I haven't read any of the fics yet that were beta'd by names I didn't recognize and I know who uses which beta for the names I do recognize, it greatly effects the anonymous element. Plus it just makes sense, the author should be the first to receive the honor of being revealed.

I don't care for being anonymous at all...as a writer *OR* a reader...it's not because I'd only read the writing of writers I "like," though. I prefer the personal aspect of responding to writers, even if that writer isn't someone I feel like I know personally through online interaction.

And as a writer, I'd just rather people know I'm the one that wrote something...be it something good or something dull and boring. (and, as an aside, I *know* that I often give myself away by naming my beta or just the way I "talk" online...it's too much trouble to try to hide that, imo).

I haven't participated in as many challenges as some writers, but I love them and hope that they continue, no matter what the format.
