61. Drabble: Bouquet
Title: Bouquet
Author: [info]dottie_jane
Theme: dwellings/home
Notes: Thank you to my beta [info]vl_redreign.

Brian has a deep, dark secret. He loves Debbie’s house. He loves the kitsch, the ugly wall paper, the tacky bathrooms, and, more than anything, he loves the smell. Her house smells the way a home should. The living room smells of (too much) potpourri, the kitchen smells of home cooking, and even Mikey’s room smells of fabric softener. Brian’s house was missing all these smells. When his mother wasn’t drinking herself into oblivion, she fastidiously scrubbed every inch of the house, obliterating any natural or homey scent, her sponge and mop leaving pine-scented notes in an already antiseptic home.

I like the way you described Deb's house. Those are indeed the perfect home-y smells I can imagine would hit you as soon as you walked in her home.

I love the comparison between the two. You described Debbie's exactly how I would picture it...makes me wish my DVDs had smell o vision. The scents of home.

Smell-o-vision! I'd love to smell some of Deb or Vic's cooking. Although I'd pass on smelling the bath house scenes.

Your descriptions of Deb's house fills me with warm fuzzies, just like a home should. :)

You know what? I don't think it's a secret, Brian! Everyone loves their childhood home. Not house, home! And this was Brian's.

This broke my heart just a little, but makes me love Deb, even more, for the home she provided to all of our boys! Thank you for writing this!

Perfect description, and it makes total sense Brian would love the first place he was welcomed 'home'.
Thank you

Whoa. I started off with huge smile on my face and then it was wiped right off. This is an excellent drabble. You told three whole worlds in a 100 words, the two separate worlds of this drabble and then the third one that is a product of both. Wow.

What a contrast between the two houses. This is a very clever take on the theme!
