A Challenge in Two Parts
Hello! Thank you to everyone who gave me feedback on the timing that would be best for this new two-part challenge!
Nearly all the writers wanted at least 4 weeks for their stories, with many wanting the standard 6, while no artist asked for more than 4 weeks. I wanted to go with a 4 week/6 week timeline, but that would have put us into Memorial Day Weekend, and holiday weekends are a very bad time to post fic. So I have compromised on a 4 week art/5 week fic schedule.
The challenge will work this way:
Artists and authors will sign up for the challenge by commenting on this post. Signups officially end on March 17, 2008, but you can sign up at any time prior to the due date for the artwork and/or fic.
Artists will create banners or similarly sized artwork intended to inspire a story. Banners/art should be smaller than wallpaper, bigger than an icon. If you are concerned your work is too small or too large, just ask!
Artists may submit up to three (3) works.
Artists may use text as part of their design, but please do not use a title for the fic.
Artwork will be due on April 11, 2008 at 10 PM Pacific (California, United States) Time. There will be a ten minute grace period. Email it to email@example.com.
Artwork will be posted ANONYMOUSLY, so please do not include your name in the artwork. You may prepare a second version of your artwork that includes your name, to be used at the end of the challenge when artists and authors are revealed.
Authors will select any banner/artwork and use it to inspire a story of any length.
Authors are welcome to submit fiction as well as artwork to this challenge, but may not write for banners/artwork that they created.
Authors may write for as many of the banners/artwork as they wish -- in fact, authors are encouraged to write for all of them if they want to! Now THAT'S a challenge!
Authors may not use multiple banners/graphics for a single chapter of a story, but they may use a different artwork for each chapter of a multi-chapter story, as long as each chapter is in a separate post.
Stories will be due on Friday, May 16, at 10 PM Pacific (California, United States) time. There will be a ten minute grace period. Stories will be posted anonymously that night.
Stories must follow the general rules posted here. These rules have been slightly changed since previous challenges so please review them!
On Wednesday, May 21, 2008, the artists and authors will be revealed. At that time, the stories and artwork can be crossposted to your own journals or other sites.
Please sign up by commenting to this post, and ask any questions you have here as well! And please spread the word, especially to artists, as we haven't ever included them in a challenge before and they may not think to look.
If you're willing to beta, please volunteer here!.
I'm so looking foward to this!
