Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Kate and Jason
Where: Jason’s place.
What: Tetris re-match!
When: early evening

Kate made sure to work extra hard on all of her homework on Saturday so that she didn’t have any on Sunday. She wanted to have the afternoon off so that she could be a little lazy before she headed to Jason’s place for their much anticipated Tetris rematch. Kate knew very well that visiting Jason at his apartment alone right after they had nearly kissed probably wasn’t such a good idea, but she couldn’t say no to a Tetris challenge, or the chance to spend more time with Jason. She had faith in herself, the two of them were just friends, and Kate’s night with Jamie on her couch was a reminder of how awesome her relationship was with him. Things would be fine, and it would give Kate and Jason a chance to just hang out and be friends. There would be no dark room reminding them of what they used to do together in there, just a friendly, or not so friendly, game of Tetris and maybe some Donkey Kong after. No harm in that, right? Then why did Kate only tell Jamie that she was hanging out at a friend’s place, not specifying that it was Jason, and that she actually felt a little guilty for not telling him the entire truth? Kate tried to justify that guilt by telling herself that she never asked Jamie for details on who he was with when he went out, so she didn’t have to tell him details either. It didn’t matter, Jamie never really cared about who Kate was hanging out with and didn’t need details, that just was how their relationship was like. Casual.

Once it was time to leave her dorm Kate brushed her hair quickly, she had let it just air dry and have its natural wave to it, and then left her dorm. She hopped in her car and started to head towards Jason’s apartment. He had text messaged her the address earlier and Kate had a pretty good idea of where it was. She had left a bit early to make sure she wasn’t late, but found out that she didn’t need to because it didn’t take her long to find the area that Jason lived it. Since she was so early Kate drove to a convenience store to grab some snacks for the two of them. She ended up finding Juicy Squirts and Gummi Worms there, so Kate couldn’t turn those down and bought a bag of each of them along with an Arizona Ice Tea for Jason and a can of Fruit Punch for herself, grinning at the memories that came with them. It had been a long time since that night when Kate and Jason stayed up to watch the sunrise together. It was before the two of them even started dating, but it was definitely one of her favourite memories of the two of them.

Once everything was paid for Kate headed back to her car and to Jason’s apartment. She parked her car in the guest parking and headed inside, buzzing for Jason and then when he buzzed her in she headed to his door. Once she was there Kate took in a deep breathing, knowing that she hadn’t seen Jason since that incident in the dark room and was determined to forget about it as quickly as possible. She then knocked on the door and ran a hand through her hair while she waited for him to open it.

Jason was constantly kicking himself after inviting Kate over for a Tetris rematch. What was he thinking? Apparently, he wasn’t. He should have known better than to ask her to come over, especially after what happened when she shadowed him. They had been less than an inch away from kissing, and had his co-worker not come into the dark room, they more than likely would have kissed. Jason couldn’t help but wonder how it would have gone down had his co-worker not come in, but then he just felt guilty and made himself think about something else. The more he thought about the Tetris rematch, the more he kicked himself, until he finally told himself that he could be an adult about this. He was twenty-four years old, for Christ sake, he should be able to control himself and behave. Though, he had never really been able to control himself or behave when he was around Kate before, why should now be any different? Okay, he needed to stop playing devil’s advocate with himself, he was just going to end up getting himself into trouble.

Sunday morning, Jason spent about an hour or so straightening up his apartment, making sure it was clean, but not too clean. He didn’t want it to look like he had put any kind of an effort into cleaning for Kate, because that might give her the wrong idea. Though, in all actuality, he was cleaning for her. Why, he had no idea. It wasn’t like Kate was ever all that neat, and it wasn’t like she ever cared what his room looked like when they were back on the island. Oh well, it was more out of habit than anything else. Taking a quick trip to the grocery store, Jason grabbed a couple of those bake in the oven pizzas, just incase Kate stayed long enough to get hungry eventually. It was just easier (and cheaper) to buy one of those oven pizzas than to order a pizza. He stopped at the gas station to fill his gas tank and pick up a pack of cigarettes, the stress of everything going on right now was making him smoke more than he normally did. After running the errands, Jason headed back to his apartment.

About an hour or so later, Jason was standing on the balcony of his apartment and smoking a cigarette when he heard a knock on his door. Glancing behind him towards the apartment, he put the cigarette out and headed inside, closing the balcony behind him. Dropping the cigarette pack on the coffee table, he moved towards the door and pulled it open, giving Kate a smile as he saw her. “You’re actually a little early. I’m surprised. I kind of expected you to forfeit by not showing up. You know, being so terrified of my Tetris ability, and all,” he teased, pulling the door open further for her to walk into the apartment. “Welcome to my humble abode,” he said, closing the door after she entered.

A smile immediately came to Kate’s face when Jason opened the door. She felt butterflies in her stomach when she saw his smile but she did her best to try and ignore it. She was only feeling like that because she was nervous about playing Tetris, right? Probably not. Actually, Kate wasn’t nervous about Tetris at all because she knew that she was going to kick Jason’s ass at it again, but that was what Kate was going to keep telling herself that anyways. “Of course I am early. I wanted to give you a chance to back out in fear that I am going to whip your ass again,” Kate teased back. She then stepped into his apartment carrying her bag of goodies in one hand and her wallet still in the other. Kate never used purses unless she had to, it was something that she had been doing since middle school. Almost all of her jeans had a faded mark on one of the pockets were she would always shove her wallet.

Once Kate was inside of Jason’s apartment she gave a quick glance around and couldn’t help but notice that Jason had a nice place. Kate wished that she could have a place of her own, but since she was going to school she really had no other choice. She had gotten used to sharing a dorm with someone, but it did take her a while since she had her own room while working on the island. “Nice place,” Kate casually mentioned as she stood somewhat awkwardly in his doorway, immediately noticing the difference in how comfortable she felt in his apartment now compared to his room back on the island. When working together on the island Kate would just walk into Jason’s room, grab something to drink for herself and for Jason if he wanted anything and then plop herself down on the ouch. Now Kate felt very apprehensive about what to do or what would be appropriate to do. The place felt very foreign to her, which was weird because considering how well Kate knew Jason nothing about him should be foreign to her. Though when on the island Jason was Kate’s boyfriend, and now he wasn’t. Some other girl, well Nicole was the one who could do anything she wanted in his apartment, not Kate.

After taking her run down sneakers off Kate looked around and then decided to set down the bag full of candy and pop on to the coffee table. “I brought us some snacks,” Kate said as she walked over to the coffee table. She took out the bag of gummi worms as she did so to show Jason, giving him a smile before looking at the coffee table again. She took the candy out of the big bag she brought them in and set them on the coffee table, it was then that she spotted the cigarettes. “You smoke now?” Kate asked, but it was nothing close to a judging tone or anything like that. Jason never smoked before, and Kate honestly never imagined him being the type of person to pick it up. She didn’t care if he smoked or not, but she was just curious. “When did you start with that?”

Jason noticed Kate’s smile, and it just made his grow some more. Snickering at her comments about giving him the opportunity to back out in fear, Jason made a ‘pfft’ sound with his mouth, waving his hand in the air. “Right, like I’m gonna let you make me forfeit. I don’t think so. This is so on, and you’re mine,” he said. After he said it, the double meaning of his words hit him, and he reached a hand up to run through his hair, scratching the back of his neck. “All I’m saying is that I’ve been brushing up on my Tetris skills, so you just wait,” he smiled at her. Right after the break-up, Jason spent a lot of time in his room back home, either reading, playing with his camera, or playing Tetris and Donkey Kong. He didn’t want to go out or do anything, he was pretty heart broken. So his skills got a little better than they were on the island. “Besides, the first time we played, you totally distracted me,” he defended.

After Kate came inside, Jason closed the door and crossed his arms over his chest. Mostly to keep himself from touching her. If his hands were crossed over his chest, then he didn’t have to worry about reaching out and touching her, or hugging her, and it was just better that way. Clearing his throat as she commented on his apartment, Jason shrugged. “It’s not the nicest apartment in the world, but it’s mine,” he smiled, shrugging again. “After I finish paying off my car, maybe I’ll look for a nicer place. But probably not. I’ve grown kind of attached to my little apartment. You want a tour?” he asked, raising a brow at her, smiling a little. Jason noticed that Kate wasn’t as comfortable as she used to be in his room on the island, but that was expected. They hadn’t really been alone like this in a long time, and she didn’t know his apartment.

Raising a brow as she told him that she brought snacks, Jason snickered a little bit. “Is that right?” he asked, glancing down at what she had brought them. Laughing as she showed him the gummi worms and the juicy squirts, Jason covered his mouth, shaking his head. He was immediately reminded of the night they spent on the beach, before they had even started dating. That was when Kate had taken that picture of the potato rock. Running a hand through his hair, Jason shoved his hands into his pockets. “We had some good times,” he said, nodding. Glancing over at Kate as she noticed the cigarettes and asked about when he started smoking, Jason nodded. “Yeah, I picked it up not long before I ended up leaving Seattle. I was stressed and just a nervous wreck about moving here, and … well, you met my brother. He’s a horrible influence,” he chuckled, shrugging. "I'm not a big smoker, I only really smoke when I'm really stressed out or frustrated. Or, when I'm really pissed off about something," he added.

The double meaning of Jason’s words hit Kate as well, but she did her best to ignore them but she wasn’t doing so well. The words you’re mine coming from Jason’s lips repeated in Kate’s head and she suddenly felt herself wishing that she still was Jason’s, and that he was hers. She then immediately felt guilty for even thinking about that, Jason wasn’t hers, she wasn’t his and that was just how things were. She was lucky enough that she could still have Jason in her life now considering that a few months ago she thought she would never see him again. Kate couldn’t push it, it was wrong and something that she just needed to stay away from. So, pretending like what he said meant nothing to her at all she gave him a grin and noticed that he was scratching his neck. “It is good that you have been brushing up, because you will need it,” Kate teased. She hadn’t played the game since being on the island, but that was because she had never really had the chance to. “I did not distract you, Jason. You just sucked at it,” Kate then said, continuing the teasing. It was actually a pretty close game that time, Kate nearly lost before Jason did but luckily managed to keep going just in time.

“Your apartment is fine,” Kate said, actually liking it a lot so far. “It is better then living in a dorm. My place is tiny, though I shouldn’t complain because at least this year I get my own bed room. Last year my dorm pretty much consisted of one room that my dorm mate and I had to share. I had no privacy at all.” Kate remembered her last year very clearly. She cried herself to sleep a few of her first nights, and the nights after she broke up with Jason and her poor room mate had to listen to all of it. Luckily she was pretty understanding about it all. Kate then smiled when Jason offered a tour and she nodded her head. “Yeah, that would be awesome,” she said.

Kate grabbed the bag of Juicy Squirts and opened them, popping a few in her mouth before offering the bag to Jason. She had not eaten the candy since her and Jason spent that night together, and the taste of the candy gave her a rush of memories, but they were all amazing ones. She then nodded her head and felt a tug at her heart when Jason said that they had some good times. Her and Jason certainly did, there were so many that she couldn’t even count them all. “We did. I really liked staying up all night with you,” she said a little quietly. Kate was just about to offer that the two of them do it again some time, but she decided at the last minute not to say anything. Kate understood the idea of smoking when you were stressed or angry part. There were times when Kate was so stressed that she was actually surprised that she had not picked up smoking yet. She just hoped that the things that made Jason so stressed or angry didn’t have anything to do with her. “I know how you feel on the stressed part,” Kate said. It was very apparent by her appearance that she was a busy college student. She had lost weight and rarely wore make up anymore, or even had time to brush her hair half of the time.

Jason was glad that Kate was ignoring the stupid statement he had made. He was pretty embarrassed that he said it, what the hell was wrong with him, anyway? Her just being there was insanely distracting, and he couldn’t help but be completely thrown by her presence. Jason was certain he still had feelings for her, feelings that he didn’t think would ever go away. And that frustrated the hell out of him. It wasn’t that he wanted to feel absolutely nothing when he looked at her, that wasn’t the case at all. He just didn’t want to feel everything he did. He wanted to see her as a friend, not as someone he had lost. He didn’t want to forget their time together … god, no. He loved those memories. But he just wished that he had been able to move on completely, like she seemed able to. Snickering as she told him that he just sucked, he placed a hand over his heart and shook his head. “That was uncalled for,” he said, unable to keep a smile off his face. Whether or not he admitted it to himself, he really liked the way it sounded when she said his name. “And you did too distract me,” he added.

Smiling as Kate talked about her dorm, Jason nodded. “Yeah, dorms are pretty shitty. Does your dorm mate at least take showers? Because my sophomore year I got placed in a dorm with a guy who didn’t think that taking showers was necessary. My room was always filthy, and smelled fucking horrible,” he scrunched up his nose just thinking about it, shaking his head. “About two months into the year, I had already requested a change,” he said, laughing. He tilted his head to the side slightly as Kate agreed that they did have some good times together, and he smiled. “I liked staying up all night with you, too,” he said, nodding. “I still remember how horrified I was when I woke up with my arms around you,” he said softly, glancing down at his feet. Why was he doing this? Why was he talking about the old times with her? All it was going to succeed in doing was make him sad. “You’re a college student, Kate. Your life is nothing but stress right now,” he laughed, absent mindedly reaching out to tuck some hair behind her ear. Baaad move. No touching allowed.

Smiling as Kate agreed to a tour, Jason nodded. “Then a tour you shall receive. Follow me,” he said, waving her behind him as he walked further into the apartment. “This is the living room. It’s kind of a living room slash dining room … I just eat on the coffee table most of the time,” he shrugged. Walking further into the apartment, he gestured. “This is my tiny kitchen,” he laughed, then shrugged again. “I don’t do a whole bunch of cooking, so I don’t need a huge kitchen. It’s nice,” he nodded. He turned and lead the way down the hall. “Here’s the bathroom,” he said, opening a door and turning on the light. “It pretty much looks just like a bathroom,” he laughed, shutting off the light and continuing down the hall. “This, you’ll like. It was supposed to be a spare bedroom, but I got permission from my landlord to turn it into a darkroom,” he said, opening the door and showing her his little homemade darkroom. “And then, last but not least,” he said, opening the last door in the hall. “My bedroom,” he said, gesturing into the room, but making sure to stay out of a room with a bed when he was with Kate. That could end badly. “And, that’s really it,” he laughed, shrugging. “Not a huge place, but it’s nice,” he nodded.

Kate’s dorm mate was pretty nice and the two of them got along, so Kate considered herself lucky. She was worried that she would be stuck with someone that she didn’t get along with, or someone with bad hygiene problems but so far everything was working out very well. Kate was actually becoming pretty good friends with her dorm mate. She knew all about Jason and their situation, but also details about Jamie as well. Actually, Kate’s dorm mate had walked in on Kate and Jamie having sex on her couch and after she got over how mortified she was that it had happened, Kate could laugh about it now. It was pretty funny when you thought about it, but Kate wasn’t going to share that joke with Jason. “My room mate is pretty clean, so our dorm smells nice and fresh all of the time,” Kate said. She then scrunched up her nose as well at the thought of having a room mate like that. “That is so gross. Did you at least get a room change?” she then asked. Kate didn’t know what she would do if she was stuck with a dirty room mate.

Talking about the past certainly wasn’t a good idea right now, Kate’s heart skipped beat when Jason told her that he liked staying up with her all night and she knew that wasn’t a good sign. Kate wasn’t allowed to feel this way around Jason when she had a boyfriend, it instantly made her feel guilty. Kate’s arm automatically went to wrap around her stomach when Jason brought up waking up with his arms around her, and Kate couldn’t help but smile up at him. She remembered that too, and how much she liked it when she woke up cuddled close to Jason on that beach chair. They didn’t know each other that well, but Kate was completely comfortable with him and loved the feeling of his arms around her. It was then when Kate first realized that she really liked Jason. Who knew that their relationship would lead up to this? “I remember that. I was so surprised that you didn’t think I was a big pain in the ass,” Kate said with a bit of a laugh. She then froze for a moment when Jason’s hand reached out and tucked some hair behind her ears. It was such a simple and innocent gesture, but God did Kate miss it. She sucked in some air quickly and lifted her hand to touch Jason’s while it was still by her face, but caught herself and pulled it back. No. Not a good idea at all.

When Jason waved for Jason behind him she followed him as they went further into the apartment. She looked into his living room more and gave him a nod, grinning when he said he just ate at his coffee table. Kate did that a lot, too. “Dining room tables are over rated,” Kate commented with a grin. She then walked with him to his kitchen and looked in. It was small, but it worked for a single person living in an apartment on their own who didn’t cook much. When they reached the bathroom Kate looked in and then grinned at Jason. “It is a very nice bathroom. Very…hygienic looking,” she said with a bit of a laugh. Kate did like the dark room that Jason got to make, it must have been very convenient. Kate was stuck using the ones at her school all of the time, and those dark rooms were only open during certain hours of the day. She then walked to his bed room and stayed outside of the room with Jason. She looked inside and then back at him, suddenly finding herself wondering what his bed felt like, and then wanting to be able to share a bed with Jason again. Bad thoughts. Very bad thoughts. “I like it,” Kate said with a nod of approval. “Who needs a giant space if it is just you living here?” Kate was never materialistic or anything like that. If the place worked for how you lived, then why get something bigger and better? Kate really liked Jason’s apartment.

Smiling as she told him that her room smelled nice and fresh, Jason nodded. “Consider yourself lucky. I didn’t get that lucky,” he said, pointing at her playfully. “Do not take that dorm mate for granted!” he teased. He found himself wondering what her dorm looked like, and then thought about all the time the two of them spent in her room back on the island. She had a single room, so they didn’t have to worry about a roommate finding out about them and it getting back to her dad. Before her dad knew, of course. Nodding as she asked him about getting a room change, Jason smiled. “Of course I did. I bitched and complained until they got sick of hearing from me, so they put me in another room. A cleaner room. With a dorm mate who actually knew how to take showers, and did so on a regular basis,” he said, nodding his head. “Which, you know, is always important,” he added.

Watching Kate as she wrapped her arms around her stomach, Jason rolled his lips into his mouth. He wanted to wrap his arms around her, to hold her close to him again. It was such a bad idea, and he needed to stop thinking like that. Maybe they really couldn’t be friends. The thought of not having any kind of a relationship with Kate at all caused him a pang of hurt in his chest, so he pushed those thoughts out of his head and instead focused on the conversation. Which, apparently, was still on his arms around her. Laughing as Kate told him she was surprised he didn’t think she was a pain in the ass, Jason shook his head. “Nah, I never thought you were a pain in the ass. Well, I take that back. You are a pain in the ass, but I was willing to put up with you,” he said, smiling at her. It was horrible that he had to keep reminding himself that they both had a significant other, he felt like such a bad person for the thoughts he had about her.

Swallowing as Kate froze when his hand touched her skin, Jason cleared his throat. “Sorry … habit,” he mumbled, pulling his hand away from her and then taking her on the tour. Jason was glad that Kate seemed to like his apartment. In reality, it shouldn’t matter to him what she thought, but that wasn’t true. Jason would always care what Kate thought, at least he was sure he would. She was his first real love, she played such a huge part in making him who he was today, and he’d always care about her. Making his way back out into the living room after the tour, Jason gestured towards the couch. “Go ahead, you can take a seat there,” he said, moving over to the television and setting it up for the old school Nintendo to work. Once it was set up, he plugged in the controllers and carried them back to the couch. Handing one of them to Kate, Jason plopped down on the couch next to her, not realizing how close he was to her when he sat down. Swallowing, he turned his attention to the screen, putting his socked feet up on the coffee table. “I’m gonna wipe the floor with you, Shore,” he told her, smirking at her.

Kate nodded her head and smiled at Jason. “I won’t. I really like my dorm mate. She is quiet and totally not like me at all, but she is really nice and really…clean.” Kate said with a grin. Kate was definitely a messy person, but that was only with her clothes and little things like leaving dishes in her sink. At least with Kate and her room mate they never let their room get to the point where it started to smell. That was just gross. “Showering on a regular basis is important,” Kate said. “Personal hygiene should definitely be on someone’s priority list.”

When Jason said that Kate was a pain in the ass Kate laughed out loud, finally letting her arms rest at her sides. Kate was very aware that she could indeed be a pain in the ass, among so many other negative things and was always surprised that Jason had kept her around for so long. She was sure that he would of gotten sick of her sarcastic nature and bad attitude, but he never did. Though, Jason didn’t have to see that bad side of her that often because he really did bring out the best in her whenever she was around him. The only time he saw a meaner side of her was when they got into fights or when she was in a terrible mood, and even then she could never stay angry and Jason and let herself be mean to him. There was just something about him that always dragged the better side of Kate out, and kept the selfish side of her at bay. “Thanks. I am still amazed that you could put up with me,” Kate joked.

“No, that is all right,” Kate said in a reassuring tone. She knew that if Jason ever wanted to touch her face or hair again she wouldn’t stop him, which made her feel guilty again. Kate noticed that she was constantly feeling guilty for the things she thought about when she was around Jason, but she wasn’t doing anything to stop it. She couldn’t bring herself to stop spending time with Jason, even though she knew deep down it wasn’t a good thing to be doing at all. Once the tour was done Kate followed Jason into the living room and sat down on the couch. She watched as Jason hooked up the controllers and took one from Jason when he came back to the couch. She too noticed how close he sat down next to her, but she didn’t want to move away at all and was glad that he stayed where he was. “Oh we will see about that, Murphy,” Kate said, smirking back at Jason. Kate then leaned back on the couch and placed her own feet up on the coffee table so that she could get comfortable. Like she couldn’t control it Kate’s body automatically started to lean into Jason’s. Kate shifted on the couch so that she could sit upright again, but soon enough she started leaning into him again. Leaning against Jason was extremely comfortable, so after her second time and trying to casually sit up right and failing she just let her body do what it wanted. Her toes moved to the cheesy music that was playing from the system and her hands were holding the controller, ready to start.

Laughing, Jason nodded his head. “Yeah, if she’s quiet and clean, then she’s definitely nothing like you,” he teased, unable to help himself. He covered his mouth with his hand, and then shrugged. “Come on, you have a big mouth and you know it,” he added, raising a brow as if daring her to deny it. Jason never minded that Kate had a big mouth, it was one of the things that had drawn him to her in the first place. He found it completely endearing. “And don’t even get me started on what a slob you are,” he continued, the smirk on his face giving him away. Kate was never a slob, she just didn’t like putting clothes away. “I can’t tell you how many times I had to search through heaps and mounds of clothes to find one of my socks,” he added, his smirk growing. “And yes, showering is very important. At least you do that on a somewhat regular basis,” he smirked, wondering how long it would take for her to smack him.

Her laugh made Jason’s smile grow, it was something he missed hearing. The two of them would stay up for hours, just talking and laughing. They still did it on the phone a lot, back when they were still together, right after she moved to Providence. And he was glad that he got to hear her laugh again. “I missed that, your laugh,” he said, before he could stop himself. Scratching his neck, he moved on right away, not wanting to make things uncomfortable for them. “I know, I’m really amazed I put up with you for so long, too,” he smirked, shrugging. “What can I say? I’m an extremely patient person,” he added, laughing. “Nah, I’m kidding. You’re really not as bad as you make yourself out to be,” he told her, shaking his head. He didn’t go into all the qualities about her that he loved, it would have taken a long time, and it was something they did not need to talk about right now.

Nodding as she told him that it was alright, Jason cleared his throat. He still wished he could do it again, but he knew that it would just be a bad move. A really bad move. Once they were both situated on the couch and ready to play, Jason snickered at her. “Yeah, we will see about that. We’ll see me kicking your ass,” he said, smirking. “You ready?” he asked, and when she told him that she was, Jason hit the button to start the game. Narrowing his eyes a little bit, he concentrated on moving the blocks on the screen so that they fit into each other. Without even thinking about it, his tongue stuck out the side of his mouth as he concentrated, not wanting to lose to Kate after talking such a big game. He really had gotten better from all the time he spent playing Tetris back in Seattle, but it had been a couple of months since he played. Nicole didn’t like to play Tetris, so he didn’t play it very often anymore.

Kate stood and folded her arms across her chest while she looked at Jason and listened to him constantly tease her. The teasing didn’t bug her at all, she knew he was joking but she pretended to be angry, only able to keep it up for a few seconds. “Oh, I know I have a big mouth,” Kate said. She was very aware of the stuff she said and her inability to keep her opinions to herself. People reminded her of this constantly, but it didn’t stop her from keeping it up. Kate really just couldn’t help herself sometimes, but it really did make her who she was. Kate then grinned when Jason brought up him searching for socks in her room, but that also reminded her of the nights that her and Jason would spend together, and that made her feel a tug at her heart again. “Wow, the insults keep on coming, don’t they?” Kate teased, obviously not taking what he said that seriously. When he made the comment about her showering habits Kate did smack him on the arm, putting a fake look of shock on her face as she did it. “I shower more then you, so I wouldn’t talk.”

When Jason said that he missed Kate’s laugh she looked at him, her expression turning serious. Kate missed Jason’s laugh, his smile, just him in general so much and she was having a quick internal debate on whether or not she should tell him. She was just about to open her mouth to tell him that she missed his laugh too, and how adorable she always thought it was but Jason continued to speak, so Kate ignored what she was about to say to him. Kate smirked again when Jason made the comment about how patient of a person he was, and that really was true. He was a lot more patient then Kate was, that was for sure. “I think you are just a patient person, but that is just me,” Kate said, deciding to leave it at that. She could go on about all of the other great things about Jason and how he was a much better person then she was, but that would take all day.

“Ready,” Kate said when Jason asked. She was excited and looking forward to playing Tetris again, especially playing it with Jason. It was such a childish thing considering Kate was now 20 years old and Jason was 24, but Kate didn’t care. It was something that her and Jason loved doing together so it didn’t matter to them. Once the game started Kate concentrated on it and the shapes that she was making. While the game was still moving at a slower speed Kate let herself glance at Jason’s screen, and then to his face. She was now leaning into him even more and she couldn’t help but grin when she saw that his tongue was stuck out a bit from concentration. That instantly put a smile on her face because Jason looked fucking adorable. Kate then took a deep breath in and tore her eyes away from Jason so that she could concentrate on the game again. It was a hard thing for her to do when Jason was sitting right beside her. Whenever she breathed in she could smell him, and even something as simple as that made Kate feel an ache in her heart.

Laughing, Jason nodded. “Good, I’m glad you know that. Because it’d be a little weird if you weren’t aware of your big mouth,” he told her, a smile spreading across his face. He, too, thought about the nights they spent together as he brought up searching for clothes in her room, and he felt a pang in his heart as well. He missed spending the night in Kate’s room, sleeping with her snuggled right up next to him, and holding her in his arms. He had gotten incredibly used to that, and right after she left Jason had some really big problems sleeping. He tried everything, but he just missed having her in his arms. Which was why, for awhile, he and Kate would talk on the phone for hours at night, just to feel close to each other. Smirking at her as she teased him back about the insults, Jason shrugged. “My tongue’s loose today, what can I say?” he asked, shrugging. His snicker turned into full out laughter at her comment about his showering habits, and he shrugged again. “I know. I’m still scared of the drain,” he joked, smiling.

After Jason made the statement about missing Kate’s laugh, he knew he should have just kept his mouth shut. He wondered briefly if Kate missed him as much as he missed her, but he pushed those thoughts out of his head. They weren’t the best thoughts to be running through his head when she was here, especially not when they were both in relationships with other people. Jason hated feeling as guilty as he did all the time now, and he wished he didn’t feel so guilty. But he couldn’t help it. He was in a relationship with Nic, but he was thinking about Kate all the time. That was just asking for trouble. Glancing back at Kate as she mentioned that he was just a patient person, Jason laughed. “Yeah, I guess I am. It’s not always a good thing, though. Trust me,” he laughed, shrugging a little bit.

Jason didn’t care that playing Tetris was childish, he loved that game and he loved playing it with Kate. It was kind of their thing, so he honestly didn’t mind that Nic didn’t like playing the game. Jason kept his eyes on the screen, refusing to let Kate distract him. He was keeping his blocks fairly close to the bottom, so that was good. He could feel the warmth coming off her body, though, and that was really distracting by itself. Clearing his throat, Jason’s eyes narrowed as his pile of blocks got a little higher, and then he got a Tetris to knock four rows out. Smirking to himself, he glanced over at Kate’s box and noticed that she wasn’t doing well at all. It looked like she wasn’t really paying attention, and after he noticed that, he could feel her eyes on him. Swallowing, Jason forced himself not to turn and look at her, and continued playing. He could smell Kate’s shampoo, since she was so close to him, and that was throwing him off a little. He loved that she was still using the same stuff, even though it flooded his brain with memories.

“Oh, I am very aware of my mouth. Trust me,” Kate said with a laugh. Anyone who got to know Kate at all, and even sometimes complete strangers got to know Kate’s big mouth immediately. It was either something that you loved or hated about her, and Kate couldn’t care less which side you picked. When Kate thought about the nights she spent with Jason she found that she really just wanted to share a bed with him again. She just wanted to feel her body right up against his and have his arms around her and to be able to feel his breath against her neck. Was that too much to ask? Well, yeah it was considering she had a boyfriend who she constantly shared a bed with now. Kate actually liked sharing a bed with Jamie, his strong arms holding her did comfort her in a way, but it wasn’t the same as when Jason did it. As much as Kate liked being with Jamie, nothing about her relationship with him was even remotely close to what she had with Jason. “Everything about you is just loose,” Kate joked, but she wasn’t quite sure what brought that up. She then was about to crack a joke about how she would shower with Jason if he was still scared of the drain, but then realized that was something that she definitely didn’t want to say, but Kate really wanted to take a shower with Jason again.

Kate had always thought that being a patient person would be such a good thing. She wasn’t patient at all, she was actually probably one of the least patient people out there and she could admit that any day. Jason was quite patient, and it was something that she really liked about him because she wasn’t like that at all. Kate and Jason had a lot of things in common, but there were also a lot of things about the two of them that were completely different. That was what probably made it that the two of them got along so well, they could agree on a lot of things, but were different in lots of other things so that they never got bored. “What is so bad about being patient?” Kate asked. “It has got to be ten times better then being inpatient.”

It was true, Kate wasn’t doing too well with her game. Once her attention was back on her screen she realized this and hurried to clear as much of her screen as possible before the game started to speed up. She managed to get a Tetris, and then two more not long after that cleared a lot of her board up right before the game got faster. Damn, she really was rusty and Jason was kicking her ass. Damn, Jason smelt really good. Fuck! Kate needed to concentrate. She focused her attention on the game more now that it was getting faster, but she kept on making silly mistakes and misplacing a lot of her blocks that was messing up her screen. Her mind really was anywhere but Tetris. She was thinking about Jason and how cute he looked, then feeling bad about thinking about that because she would start thinking about Jamie. Then her mind would wonder back to Jason, realizing how close the two of them were sitting, but really liking it at the same time. “Fuck,” Kate said when she messed up again.

Jason laughed, nodding. “I’m sure you are. You have to live with the thing, so I’m hoping you’re pretty aware of it,” he teased, giving her a smile. He couldn’t help it, he loved to tease her. It just came naturally, and even with all the time the two of them had spent apart, Jason still had the natural urge to tease her. It was a good thing, it meant that he was still comfortable with her, even if things between them weren’t the most comfortable in the world. Jason had the urges to hold her in his arms again too, especially the way they used to lay together in bed. They’d be pressed right up against each other, with no space between them, and Jason’s arms would be wrapped tightly around her. As if he was afraid if he let go, he’d lose her. The irony of that thought wasn’t lost on Jason, and he cleared his throat, running a hand through his hair. Things with Nicole were good, and he liked sleeping with her in the same bed, but it never felt the same, it didn’t give him that peace that holding Kate did. Jason just figured that he’d never find that connection with anyone again, that Kate was special.

Shrugging at her question, Jason ran a hand through his hair. “I don’t know. Maybe it’s not that bad of a thing. But I just feel like, if you’re patient, people use that as an excuse to walk all over you. They don’t think you’ll freak out on them for something being late, and they just think you’ll be incredibly understanding all the time,” he said, crossing his arms over his chest. “Maybe if I was impatient, I wouldn’t have a bunch of problems with my shit getting done on time at work,” he added, shrugging. “My shit’s always in on time, but other people who do things for me don’t get their stuff in. Maybe I should just do my stuff all myself, you know how anal I can be about my work,” he pointed out.

Jason was concentrating on his portion of the screen, trying not to look over at Kate’s board, or at her at all. He was doing pretty well with that, telling himself that it was good. He didn’t need to be distracted by her, he needed to do well in this game and prove that he was able to keep his concentration when she was around. He was doing a pretty good job at that, but every once in awhile Kat would move and he’d get a whiff of her shampoo, and he’d place a block incorrectly. Hearing her curse, Jason risked a glance at her screen and was unable to hide a smile when he saw how bad her board looked. She had blocks everywhere, with tons of open spaces. “You really did get rusty,” he pointed out, glancing back at his board. “What happened to the Kate that kicked my ass the last time we played?” he asked, unable to hide his smirk. “Though, I still stand on my original statement that you distracted me that game, so it’s your fault I lost,” he added, getting another Tetris and almost clearing his entire board.

“Yeah, people are assholes and try to take advantage of that sometimes,” Kate understood what Jason was trying to say about the whole being patient thing. When she thought about it she could see how someone might try and take advantage of someone who was really patient, lots of times someone who was patient would also be a bit of a push over and that was never a good thing. Kate tried to not take advantage of people like that, but that didn’t mean that other people would do the same. Whenever someone proved to be a bit of a push over like that Kate found that other people would just walk all over them until they got what they wanted. It wasn’t a nice thing to do, which was why Kate did her best to not let anyone do that to her, which sometimes made Kate come off as a bitch but she really didn’t care. “No, you just have to threaten to shove a wine bottle up their ass sideways if they don’t get their stuff in on time,” Kate joked. “It always works for me.”

If Kate wasn’t so stubborn she probably would of given up on the game of Tetris just out of frustration alone. Her blocks were all over the place and it was getting close to impossible for her to get a Tetris at all to clear her board. She let out a sigh, managing to get one line cleared but it really didn’t do much to help her out at all. “Apparently she is hiding today,” Kate joked, focusing on her board more. Really, that Kate was here, but she was distracted by Jason and he wasn’t really doing anything to distract her. His mere existence and smell was enough of a distraction for Kate. She then thought about the last time her and Jason had played Tetris, and what that game lead to and it nearly caused her heart to skip a beat. Kate really needed to stop thinking about what her and Jason used to do back when they were on the island because it really was going to make her go crazy. The past was the past, and no matter how fun it was for Kate she knew that she couldn’t go back there with Jason. The thing was, the more Kate hung out with Jason the more sad that thought made her.

Kate heard Jason get another Tetris and she looked over at his board, seeing that it was nearly all cleared. What the fuck? Kate used to rock at this game, but now it was her time to be distracted by Jason and lose. Kate wouldn’t go down without a fight though, and she kept on working on her board as much as she could, but as soon as the game sped up even more it looked like it was going to be a lost cause. Not long after that did Kate’s pile reach the top of the screen and it was game over, naming Jason as the winner. “Wow, you really did kick my ass,” Kate said, still holding her controller and looking over at Jason. She gave him a smile, not really caring who won really. Kate was still having fun hanging out with Jason and knew that she didn’t want the evening to end quite yet. After placing the controller on the ground and sitting back on the couch Kate realized exactly how close her and Jason were sitting, and it made her heart skip a beat again. “That game sucked, we should totally do something cool like watch Family Guy or something.”

Laughing at Kate's solution to people turning shit into him late, Jason nodded. "Yeah, I suppose that could work. But that could also be seen as a threat, which could potentially get me fired. So I'm not 100% sure that saying that is the best course of action," he teased, giving her a smile. He couldn't help but smile around her, Kate just had this way of cheering him up with whatever kind of situation he had found himself in. Which was a great thing to have, Jason used to spend all of his time with Kate so he was never angry about one thing for too long. She usually managed to calm him down and have him stop freaking out within a few minutes of being in her presence. He didn't have that anymore, which was why the whole cigarette thing started. He needed something to help calm him down, and they seemed to do the trick. Kate was just the healthier option.

"She's hiding today?" he repeated, smirking as he watched her board fill up more and more as the time went by. "Are you sure she didn't leave your sorry ass?" he teased, smirking as he cleared another few rows. "Because, honestly? That's just pitiful," he teased, pointing at her screen. He was able to get his hand back on his controller in time to lay another block in the correct spot, and he smirked at the television screen as he continued. It didn't take long for Kate's screen to fill up and for Jason to be declared the winner, and he nodded as he tossed his controller onto the floor, throwing his hands into the air. "Whoo! See, I told you! You just distracted me the other time. I really do have some mad Tetris skills," he told her, leaning back againsst the couch and crossing his arms across his chest. "Admit it. I'm the Tetris master, and you're insanely jealous of my Tetris skills. It's okay, I won't think any less of you," he smirked.

As Kate dropped her controller and leaned back into the couch, Jason too noticed how close they had been sitting. It wasn't as noticeable to him when they were both leaning forward and paying attention to the game, but now that there was nothing to distract him from her presence, Jason couldn't help but notice it. He cleared his throat and turned to look at her as she talked, and he rose a brow as she mentioned Family Guy. "You're just mad because you suck at the game. It's not the game that sucks, Kate ... it's the person playing it," he stuck his tongue out and then smirked at her. "But it's okay. We can still be friends, even if you do suck at Tetris," he said. The word 'friends' almost made him cringe, but he was able to keep his composure. Nodding, he stood up and moved over to unhook the Nintendo and hook his DVD player back up. "But we can watch Family Guy, that's fine," he said, pulling out a random season of the show and throwing in a random disc. "I picked a disc at random, and we can just watch a few episodes or whatever," he said, grabbing the remotes and then moving back to the couch and taking a seat, not making any kind of a move to sit farther away from her than he originally was.

“Yeah, getting fired isn’t cool,” Kate said with a grin. She was so glad that she wasn’t working right now, even if it meant that she had no money ever. Because of the hours she had to go to school the only jobs that Kate could get would be a part time retail or fast food type of thing, and Kate was done with working customer service for a while. She worked at the gift shop on the island for a year, and worked odd part time jobs during the summer and for her first few months of school last near until she nearly snapped at a customer and ended up quitting because she was getting so stressed out and needed as much time to herself as possible. She was tempted to get a job again to help pay for gas for her car, but she had been so busy with school that she just didn’t have the time for it. School was her number one priority right now, and since it was her second year she was even busier then ever.

Kate looked at her screen and listened to all of Jason’s teasing comments, but she didn’t mind them at all since Jason teased her all of the time. She really had it coming since she had bragged about how she was going to kick Jason’s ass at Tetris and right now she was losing horribly. “I think she ran for the hills,” Kate said with a grin, still attempting to save herself even though it was a lost cause. Kate then couldn’t help but a laugh a bit at Jason’s mini celebration of his win. She didn’t mind losing to him because he looked so damn cute when he was like that. Kate folded her arms across her chest and looked at Jason, deciding if she was going to humour him or not by admitting that he did indeed have some mad Tetris skills. “Ok, you are the Tetris master…for now. I need to work up my skills again and then I will be asking you for a rematch.” Kate said with a grin. She then bit her bottom lip and smiled at Jason again. She liked the idea of practicing Tetris at his apartment, that was for sure.

When Jason stuck his tongue out at Kate she couldn’t help but do the childish thing and stick hers out at him as well and make a bit of a face. Kate was now starting to be in her twenties and she still did immature things like that, but the thing that made it that much more awesome was that Jason did it with her. The two of them could be so immature at times when they were together, but Kate wouldn’t change it for the world. When Jason said friends it struck Kate a bit harder then normal, when she got talking and hanging out with Jason she sometimes almost forgot that the two of them were not together anymore, and then one of them would say that awful word and then she would be brought back down to reality. “Thanks. I wouldn’t want you judging me for my lack of Tetris skills at the moment,” she said. Kate then sat back on the couch and watched as Jason hooked up the DVD player. “Sweet, you know I love Family Guy,” she said, her eyes staying on him as he walked back over to the couch and sat down in his old place right next to her.

Once the show got started Kate got comfortable on the couch, but before she could even realize what she was doing she started to lean into Jason again. Being comfortable on a couch shared with Jason made Kate immediately lean into him. Once she moved and caught herself Kate was tempted to casually lean away, but she found that she just couldn’t do it. It felt so good to have her upper body leaning against Jason and she just didn’t want to move at all. Kate was just leaning on him, that was perfectly innocent, right? Even if Kate wanted to move her body just wasn’t listening to her, and soon enough Kate was resting her head on Jason’s shoulder as her eyes stayed glued on the TV screen.

Smirking as Kate admitted that he was, indeed, the Tetris master, Jason nodded. “Damn right I am. And we’ll see. You can come over and practice all you want, I’ll still end up beating you,” he said, a smile crossing his face. He, too, liked the idea of Kate coming over and practicing Tetris as often as she wanted to. Even though they were no longer dating (and that thought still made him feel a tug at his heart), Jason wanted her to feel comfortable and welcome in his apartment. Because she was welcome, whenever she wanted to be there. He honestly wouldn’t mind if she randomly stopped by, whenever she was in the mood to. It would only be awkward if Nicole was there when she came by, but he’d deal with that if it ever happened. Thinking about Nicole just made Jason feel guilty, so he chose not to go there.

Jason was always doing childish things around Kate, it was just who he was. He didn’t really consider himself to be immature for it, he just thought that he had a big kid type of side to him, and that was a good thing. If you were serious all the time, you’d probably go crazy. Having a kid side to you and letting yourself lose to have fun every once in awhile was always necessary. At least he thought so. Jason was twenty-four years old, but he still acted like he was twelve a lot. It helped him to not feel so old all the time. And he knew he could get away with it with Kate … he wasn’t exactly sure how Nicole would react to him acting like a kid. Jason laughed and rose a brow at her. “Hey, I didn’t say that I wouldn’t judge you. I said that we could still be friends, and that I wouldn’t think any less of you for admitting I’m better. I’m judging away,” he smirked back at her as he set up the DVD player. Nodding, Jason laughed. “Yeah, I know how much you love Family Guy,” he confirmed, the memory of the first time they watched the show invading his mind. Well, they watched maybe twenty minutes of an episode, before they were all over each other.

Shaking his head Jason focused on the task at hand before he moved back to the couch. It wasn’t too long before he felt Kate’s body leaning into his, and he cleared his throat out of habit. His hand moved up to scratch his neck, and then he felt Kate’s head move to rest on his shoulder. Jason’s heartbeat increased, and he scolded himself for it. He was reacting like a nervous teenager who had never hung out with a girl before. He was reacting like he would have when he first got onto the island, honestly. Kate had changed Jason a lot, positively. Jason was much more comfortable with himself now, he wasn’t so shy. But having her this close to him again, with her head on his shoulder, it was making him react in ways he hadn’t in quite some time. Jason’s hand moved up to scratch his neck again, and then instinctively moved to wrap around her shoulders. He couldn’t help it, he felt like this was where he belonged.

Kate smiled at Jason, definitely planning to visit his apartment again to play some more Tetris and get her skills up to speed. She wanted to be able to be fully comfortable around Jason again, and that meant being in his apartment as well since it definitely would be a place that the two of them would hang out a lot. Kate would offer her dorm, which was useable but it was small and didn’t have a lot of room when her room mate was over. She wanted to be able to stop by whenever she wanted, but the idea of stopping by when Nicole was over didn’t seem like a great idea, or something that Kate would want to risk so she made a mental note to make sure to at least text Jason first before she decided to head over. “Oh, just wait until I get my crazy skills back and we have a rematch. I will kick your ass because they are just that crazy,” Kate teased, and she knew she was starting to sound really silly.

“Ouch. Your judging will hurt my poor self esteem,” Kate said, faking a pout. Kate wasn’t full of herself at all, but didn’t have a low self esteem either. In general Kate was a pretty confident person about things, and even when she couldn’t be as confident about something she had gotten pretty damn good at faking it. Ever since Kate and Jason’s first time watching Family Guy together Kate was never able to watch that show again without being flooded with memories of what happened between her and Jason that time on the island. It was a good memory, that was for sure, and Kate was pretty sure that she would always think about that whenever she watched the cartoon. She liked that she had managed to get Jason as into the show as she was, it definitely became a thing for the two of them.

Kate hoped that Jason wouldn’t have an issue with her leaning on him while sitting on the couch, or her resting her head on his shoulder. She didn’t want to push anything, the two of them both dating other people and struggling to remain close friends, but she just couldn’t help it. Kate didn’t dare look up at Jason, her face stayed glued to the TV but soon enough she found that she wasn’t paying attention to the TV at all, especially when Jason’s arm went around her shoulder. Oh my God. How could such a simple action like that make Kate feel so good? Kate wasn’t sure, but as soon as she felt Jason’s arm around her she instantly let her body find that spot right against Jason where she fit perfectly. After over a year it was still there, and Kate let out a very quiet content sigh, closing her eyes for a moment and just letting herself enjoy the feeling of being this close to Jason again. It has been so long since the two of them could just sit together like this. It may have been wrong considering they were not together anymore, but right now Kate didn’t care. She just wanted to sit with Jason again and feel comfortable, it was something that she had missed so unbelievably much when they were apart that she just couldn’t say no to it right now.

Jason hoped that Kate would come over and spend time at his apartment, even if she did just send a text before coming over. He wanted to be friends with her … as much as he hated that word, he would rather have a friendship with her than not have her in his life at all. His apartment was a cozy little place to hang out, he didn’t mind if Kate wanted to hang there instead of her dorm. He wouldn’t mind making the drive to the school to hang out in her dorm, either. Jason’s only problem with that was that Jamie knew where her dorm was, should he ever decide to just drop by, it would be awkward if Jason was there. The same could go for his apartment and Nicole, though. But he and Kate were just friends, right? So there shouldn’t be an issue. Snorting as Kate teased about her crazy skills, Jason nodded. “You just keep telling yourself that, Kate. And then maybe you’ll start to believe yourself,” he smirked.

Rolling his eyes, Jason smiled at her comment about her self-esteem, and he shook his head. “You definitely don’t need any help in that area, whatsoever,” he said, his head still shaking. Family Guy still constantly reminded Jason of Kate, no matter when he watched it or who he watched it with. She was the one that turned him onto the show, and there were a lot of memories for it for the two of them. It was during family guy that they actually admitted to having feelings for each other, and they started dating. Family Guy was their thing, it always would be.

Jason had absolutely no issue whatsoever with Kate leaning on him during the show. He hadn’t been close to her like that in a really long time, and so it felt good to be able to feel her against his side again. Jason’s attention was shot, he wasn’t paying any kind of attention to the television show anymore. He was more focused on how it felt to have Kate leaning against him, to be able to smell her shampoo and her scent so close to him again. It was only a natural act for him to slide his arm around her shoulder, he didn’t even think about it. Once it was there, Jason’s eyes involuntarily closed, and he took a deep breath. He wasn’t ready or prepared for the rush of emotions he’d feel when his arm was around her, it felt like this was where he belonged and he couldn’t take his arm away. Wondering if it bothered Kate, Jason’s unasked question was answered when she curved into his body, fitting herself into that spot against his side, the spot that only she fit perfectly. Kate’s sigh kind of brought Jason back to reality, and alarm bells went off in his head. He had a girlfriend, Kate had a boyfriend … this was wrong. Clearing his throat, Jason moved to pull his arm away. “Sorry, old habits die hard,” he mumbled, almost inaudibly as he did so.

As Kate sat with Jason and attempted to watch Family Guy, which wasn’t working out too well since her mind was everywhere but the TV show, she thought about her relationship with Jason and that maybe her spending so much time with him wasn’t a good idea. She knew herself, and how she was with Jason to know that the more time she spent with him, the harder it would be for her to just be friends with him. That was how she fell for him in the first place, right? Kate and Jason were inseparable when they were on the island together and that time together is what made Kate fall so hard for him. She knew that she still had feelings for Jason, there was no denying that when her heart would skip a beat every time she was near him, or how it was pounding a bit faster then normal now that her body was against his on the couch, but she was doing her best to repress those feelings. Kate would always have feelings for Jason, he was her first love and her first serious relationship, there would always be a place in her heart for him. The thing was, right now Kate had a boyfriend, and Jason had a girlfriend so the two of them spending time together and risk bringing out those feelings that were so hard to repress in the first place was a really bad idea and just asking for trouble, but the thing was that Kate just couldn’t bring herself to stop what they were doing or do anything about it. It was like Kate and Jason were two magnets stuck together, there was just this force keeping her closer to him no matter how loud the voice in her head was screaming at her to get away.

Jason’s mumbled words brought Kate back to reality as well, but it was a different reality then Jason’s. Yes, she had a boyfriend and he had a girlfriend, but she didn’t want him to move. At first Kate was going to let him do what he wanted and move his arm, but as soon as he started to Kate couldn’t help herself and she reached up and touching his arm, stopping it from moving. “Don’t move,” Kate said, pulling at his arm to move it back to where it originally was. Kate then took a deep breath in and looked at Jason before speaking again, and it nearly came out as a whisper, “Please.” When Jason’s arm was back to it’s spot Kate let herself snuggle into Jason more, not being able to stop herself. What the two of them were doing felt so good, and Kate just couldn’t move away just yet. She had missed this touch so much that now that she had it she wanted to keep it for as long as possible. The two of them were just sitting on a couch together. Ok, they were cuddling on a couch together, but Kate kept on telling herself it wasn’t that bad. And if she was being completely honest with herself she would admit that even if it was that bad, she probably wouldn’t of stopped anyways.

Jason was trying as hard as he could to think about anything but how close the two of them actually were. His arm was wrapped tightly around Kate's shoulders, and she was leaning right against his body, he could feel the warmth that was coming from her against his side. It was making it incredibly difficult for him to think about anything other than her, but he forced himself to pay attention to the television show. It wasn't working, his mind kept wandering to his arm around her, and his hand on that arm had started to move of its own volition, completely without him even thinking about it. His arm moved into her hair, and was twirling strands of it around his fingers as they sat there. It was a pasttime of his before, he used to play with her hair on a regular basis. Jason used to love her hair. As much as his head was screaming at him to move, to back up, to put some distance between the two of them ... he just couldn't. He couldn't make himself move to save his life.

As he came back to reality, Jason started to pull his arm away from her, apologizing for being an idiot. He was taken by surprise when Kate's hand grabbed his arm and asked him not to move. Glancing down at her, their eyes met and Kate pulled his arm back around her. Jason was unable to take his eyes off of her, just as he was unable to move his arm, now that he knew she wanted it there. Kate was the one to look away first, and Jason blinked, swallowing. Now he definitely knew he was still in love with her. He knew it more now than he ever would. His heart was beating like crazy, and he literally had to hold himself back to keep himself from kissing her. It made him feel like such an asshole, such a horrible person. Nic didn't deserve this ... she was too good of a person for a shithead like him as a boyfriend. Swallowing again, Jason pushed thoughts out of his head, determined to just enjoy holding Kate in his arms again. He'd deal with the guilt later. His hand moved into her hair again, this time moving farther up to massage her scalp gently, his free hand reaching around to grab ahold of hers.

Kate could of melted right into Jason as soon as his hand started to play with her hair. Kate loved it when people played with her hair, but there was something about Jason doing it that just relaxed Kate more then ever. She then realized how much she missed that simple action of feeling Jason’s fingers running through her hair, just like she missed having his arm around her or being close to him on a couch. Kate just missed Jason, and she was realizing exactly how much now it was starting to scare her. She wasn’t suppose to of missed him so much by now. It had been a year, Kate thought she had moved on but apparently she hadn’t. If she had she wouldn’t of been in this situation at all, and she wouldn’t of been enjoying it as much as she was. Kate then immediately felt a bit guilty, but the feeling of Jason’s hand going through her hair brushed those feelings away in no time.

Relief washed over Kate when Jason looked at her and put his arm back around her. She could of stared at him for the rest of the evening, but the feelings that were being brought up the longer she looked at him forced her to look away. She didn’t know what she would do if she looked at him for too long, it would probably of been something that she would of regretted. When his hand went back into her hair and started to gently massage her scalp Kate couldn’t help but close her eyes for a moment, slowly exhaling and letting out a bit of a soft sigh. She felt so relaxed and so content, she didn’t even want to move from this spot on the couch with Jason. Then his hand reached over and grabbed a hold of Kate’s and her heart practically soared. Without looking at Jason Kate’s hand instantly opened a bit and she slowly let her fingers lace with his. Her thumb ran along the skin of his hand that it could reach and she couldn’t help but lean back and into Jason more. He was so comfortable, warm, soft and inviting. It had been over a year since Kate could be like this with Jason. She had missed him so much that it hurt, but knowing that she was being like this when both of them were seeing other people made Kate hurt a bit inside as well. She desperately wanted to say three words to Jason, but Kate held herself back. No. She couldn’t feel that way about Jason anymore and she was just going to have to live with that.

Jason felt how much Kate relaxed against him as his hand moved through her hair, massagging her scalp, and he knew she liked the movement. Playing with her hair had always been a pretty big pasttime of his, when they were together before. Jason loved her hair, it was soft and smooth, and it curled around his fingers in just the right way. And he loved the length, long hair was the kind of hair he liked. It wasn't as long as it had been when she left to come to Providence, but it was still pretty long. Past her shoulders. Jason's fingers grabbed a lock of her hair and he twirled it around his finger for a few moments, before he let his hand bury back into the locks, his fingers finding her scalp again. As he played with her hair, he kept getting wafts of the scent of her shampoo, and it brought back so many memories. She still used the same stuff, and it made him think about the times they would shower together, when he'd wash her hair for her. Sighing softly, Jason turned his head to rest on top of hers as it layed on his shoulder, pretty aware that he was entering dangerous territory.

Kate didn't pull her hand away from his, so Jason made no attempt to move his either. He let a soft smile cross his lips as her fingers linked through his, and he closed his hand over hers, letting the feel of her thumb running back and forth soothe him. Kate always had the power to make him calm down, to relax him, and it seemed she hadn't lost that at all. Jason was more relaxed right now, holding her in his arms, than he'd been in a really long time. It was almost scary, the affect she had on him, but he couldn't help it, and he didn't want to move away from her. He was sure that a bomb could go off in the apartment next to his, and Jason still wouldn't let go of her. He never wanted to let her go, which was a very bad thing. Kate was dating another guy, and Jason was dating Nicole. The memory of his girlfriend made Jason feel a pang of guilt, but he still didn't pull away from Kate. If anything, he tightened his arm around her shoulders, pulling her even closer to his body. Jason knew then that there was no way he could stay with Nicole ... not when he was still completely in love with Kate. It wasn't fair to Nicole, she deserved better than him. He just didn't know how he was going to go about breaking the news to her. Completely acting on habit, Jason turned his head and kissed Kate's forehead softly, then returned his head to lean on hers.

Kate couldn’t help but grin when Jason rested his head against hers. She closed her eyes for a moment and just let herself breathe Jason in, but that immediately made her heart ache a bit and it was too late to stop herself. A flood of memories hit Kate as the two of them sat together on the couch, Jason wrapping his arms around her while Kate’s body fit in perfectly with his. She remembered the first time they watched Family Guy together, the first time they made out in the dark room, their first official date and the first time they slept together. She also remembered laying in bed with him all morning, or when he would let her fuck around with his camera on the beach when she was first trying out photography. What hit her the hardest was remembering what it felt like to be kissed by Jason, to feel his breath against her skin as their bodies were entwined together alone in one of their rooms. Kate couldn’t help but squeeze Jason’s hand when she remembered that, the ache in her heart increasing. It was probably a good idea to leave, to get away from Jason but Kate just couldn’t bring herself to do it. She never wanted Jason to let her go.

When Jason’s arm tightened around Kate her body immediately turned a bit towards him, letting her head nuzzle more into Jason’s chest and neck. “You are still as comfortable as ever,” Kate mumbled, finding it a bit harder to keep her eyes open right now. Jason was like a body pillow for Kate, and he was warm and the feel of his chest rising and lowering from his breathing was unbelievably comforting for Kate. She sighed when Jason’s lips pressed to her forehead and she couldn’t help but turn into him more. The lack of sleep that Kate was experiencing from school was really starting to catch up with her, and as soon as she was comfortable with Jason it seemed to hit her like a train wreck, and all she wanted to do was go to sleep with Jason’s arms around her. Kate snuggled into Jason even more and soon she found that her face was very close to the bare skin on his neck. It was so easy for Kate to fall into old habits with Jason, as soon as she felt his body against her and had his smell surround her she got comfortable, and started to things that they dud when they were together. “I missed you,” Kate mumbled before she leaned in a bit and placed not one, not two, but three kisses along Jason’s neck where she could reach. Her eyes were closed completely now and it didn’t take long for Kate to start drifting off to sleep.

Jason let out a soft sigh as Kate moved in closer to him, and he let himself inhale her scent. It was such a bad idea, because all that happened was that he was reminded of so many things where he would smell her scent, and it just hurt his heart. His heart literally felt like it was going to beat out of his chest. He was still so in love with the girl in his arms, yet he couldn't do a damn thing about it. This must be what hell feels like. Having quite literally the love of your life in your arms, but knowing that she didn't belong to you anymore, that she wasn't your girl anymore. She was someone else's girl, and someone else was able to kiss her, hold her, touch her. Someone else was able to make love to her the way you wanted to. It was killing him to think about, so Jason just swallowed and forced himself to stop. He would drive himself crazy thinking about things like that, thinking about what Kate and Jamie did when they were alone, so he just didn't do it.

Jason's eyes closed tightly as Kate mentioned that he was still comfortable, and he let out a soft laugh. "Yeah, well ... I guess that's not something that disappears with time," he said, then cleared his throat. He let her get even closer, snuggling right into his side the way she used to. She still fit perfectly against his body, it was almost too much for Jason to handle. And then, her face snuggled in even closer. Jason heard her tell him that she missed him, and he swallowed again as he closed his eyes. His eyes then flew open as soon as he felt her lips on his skin ... it felt like an electric shock had gone through his entire body. Jason's hand in her hair stilled for a moment as he tried to gain composure again. He wondered if Kate knew what she was doing to him, but he didn't want to ask her. "I missed you too," he finally replied, once he was able to form words. They still came out shakier than they normally would have, but Jason didn't care. He glanced down at her and couldn't help the smile that crossed his face as he noticed that Kate was drifting off to sleep.

Just like before, Jason let Kate fall asleep, and then he watched her sleep for awhile. His hand caressed her cheek gently as he watched her, tucking her hair behind her ear and then running his thumb over her lips. He wasn't even sure how long he watched her sleep. Jason rolled his lips into his mouth, glancing away from her for a moment. He was insanely tempted to stretch the both of them out on the couch and sleep there with her in his arms, but he knew that if he did that, his heart would break all over again when she left him whenever she woke. So, instead, Jason gently stood up off the couch, laying Kate on her side on the couch. He lifted her head and placed a pillow underneath it, and then covered her body with a blanket off the back of the couch. He grabbed his cigarettes and went out onto the balcony to smoke one, shaking his head as he did so. He had to figure his shit out, and soon.

After finishing the cigarette, Jason put it out and then went back inside. The sight of Kate sleeping peacefully on his couch tugged at his heart, and he moved over to her, kneeling in front of the couch for a moment. He tucked some hair behind her ear and then leaned in. "Goodnight, love," he said softly, before he kissed her very gently on the lips. He then stood and turned off the lights, making his way back to his bedroom, where he knew he wouldn't sleep a wink.
