The Darwin Effect [24 Mar 2009|12:52am]

The Darwin Effect
Superman was an alien from a destroyed planet, Wonder Woman was a delegate of an Amazon tribe, and Batman was a billionaire playboy.

Each of these renowned superheroes had untold resources at their fingertips they could call up a whim. With a half dozen abilities, or the force of an Amazon nation, or simply a never flagging well of cash, none of them ever had to really worry about their day to day lives.

But what about those who possess only a single power? What about those who have to deal with the pressures of high school, of drug addiction, of a broken marriage and single parenthood? For them, life is nowhere as easy, and the sudden appearance of a special ability could possibly do them far more harm than good.

There is a Company out there, a collective of both Specials and Normals, looming in the darkness. Beyond the sight of the everyday person who suddenly has discovered that they could teleport from place to place, lift a car, or heal themselves from any injury. For reasons that only they know of, members of this Company have begun tracking and sometimes even kidnapping these Special individuals.

A choice is being forced to be made. Will those with abilities strive to better the world, or try to destroy it? Will those without ally themselves with the Specials, or turn against them? Possibly even, is there no middle ground?

***

In Darwin Effect, the world of Heroes is not limited by what a television show’s budget could stretch to. There are no Network Executives and corporations to please, no limit to just what we can do. A fresh slate, going AU from the very first episode, a world controlled only by the players with inspiration.

In mid-renovations, Darwin Effect is looking for fresh, creative new players to bring in new blood and new ideas. Players that can be continually active and contribute to the player-driven plot are desired, as well as those with a decent grip on creative writing. While the community is set to private to allow the most freedom, there is an available visitor account to allow a peek into the Darwin Effect world. Feel free to contact darwin_mod on Livejournal for more information.

It's 1980 and the first war is escalating. Voldemort is slowly taking over all aspects of magical life, systematically knocking out important ministry figures in his quest to deter Millicent Bagnold's campaign for Minister of Magic. He and his loyal Death Eaters are plotting the demise of key radicals in the Order of the Phoenix, Dumbledore's agitating, underground society. But something is changing. The original prophecy has gone unheard by Severus Snape. If Harry Potter's canonical destiny is never revealed to The Dark Lord, will the war be re-shaped to a better end, or will the inevitable just be delayed from happening? Maybe an ill wind is blowing nobody any good.

WANTED CHARACTERS: Frank Longbottom, Dorcas Meadows, Peter Pettigrew, Amelia Bones**, Rodolphus & Rabastan Lestrange, Lucius Malfoy, Severus Snape**, Xenophilius Lovegood and many more available for application!

"….Voldemort's powerful now. You don't know who his supporters are, you don't know who's working for him and who isn't; you know he can control people so that they do terrible things without being able stop themselves. You're scared for yourself, and your family, and your friends. Every week, news comes of more deaths, more disappearances, more torturing … The Ministry of Magic's in disarray, they don't know what to do, they're trying to keep everything hidden from the Muggles, but meanwhile, Muggles are dying too. Terror everywhere … panic … confusion …"

Across Europe the Wizarding Community lies in fear. Voldemort and his followers are on the rise, leaving behind a reign of terror in their wake. As his numbers increase, Wizards begins to grow more uneasy, increasingly choosing to fall prey to his Empire, out of fear, unwilling to stand up and fight.

In spite of the increasing danger, a small group of vigilante Wizards has begun to pull ranks, daring to do what the Ministry fears to do; fight. The Order of the Phoenix is slowly growing into a force to be reckoned with, threatening not only Voldemort, but the Ministry itself.

Change is on the brink and the students of Hogwarts. No longer will they be safe behind the confines of the castle, unaware to the real dangers of the world. They will soon be forced to make their own loyalties known; a decision that will affect not only the rest of their lives, but the entire Wizarding World.

Amongst the darkness, these students are potentially the light needed to give the Order the man power to take on Voldemort’s forces. As both sides fight to gain support, one question lies: which side do you choose?
