It started off as a minor thing.
Adal Papp planned long term, and she was far more cunning than people assumed. When people met her, they thought she was somehow simple and warm. Perhaps she was in comparison to the other two Esset Elders. But since she had come back, she wanted the power all to herself. She had wanted Schubert to die so that she could finish the plans he had started.
That's why she had released a long-acting poison at the wedding.
Everyone who went inhaled it, at least some of it. And it started on Thursday. Just minor hallucinations--seeing things out of the corner of your eye, mishearing someone speak. Things that could have easily been ignored. But then it got worse. The hallucinations got a bit more real. And the adrenaline caused by the fear only encourage the drug to work faster. By Sunday, everyone should be so caught up in themselves that Adal would be free to get the last few pieces for her game.
And if a few members of Esset or Kritiker killed themselves in the process, all the better.
