Something was different. Admittedly, that was pretty much the standard for the Project so it might have sounded silly to say, but to Adam it was as accurate as he could describe at the moment. When he had woken up a few days ago he hadn't really noticed anything, not at first in any case. Now it was impossible for him not to notice. He only wished he knew exactly what it was. Mostly, he simply wanted confirmation that it wasn't his magic.
Out of a need for something not different, what he would call normal even, he drove his Jeep out to the lake. It was far enough outside of town for him to avoid anyone he might know but close enough to remain in his comfort zone. His sister's words about him hiding rang in his head and he sighed a little. Maybe he was hiding, staying so close to what he knew. Could he really be blamed when the one time he used the bracelet to explore he wound up in another world where machines were wanting to kill someone who happened to look like him? Talk about the worst case of mistaken identity anyone could have. His shoulder had healed fine, thankfully, but he would always have a scar where he had been shot, a reminder of the dangers other worlds could present. Besides, the Project seemed to like to throw them all around plenty. It made him a little less interested in randomly hopping to some other world.
As Adam sat on the shoreline he took his gaze off the calm water to look at the bracelet on his wrist. Could it help him figure out the source of this sense he couldn't shake, or would it just get him into trouble? With the dark magic inside him that he had never asked for, he didn't really need help finding trouble. He was sure more witch hunters or demons or other Balcoin children were bound to pop up one day and make his life as dangerous as it had been prior to being snatched by the Project. Perhaps it was pessimistic, but he saw no reason to think otherwise. For all he knew, this new 'thing' that he couldn't shake was bad news as well.
