For the brief moments of their embrace, Connor seemed to forget about everything that was going on, seemed to be able to block out the complicated situation and new reality that had finally arrived after a year of longing, to be able to just relax and let his body recharge. He and Abby had grown so close over the last year, they had become more than just the friends that they were before, and his feelings for her were different from the crush that had consumed him when they first met, they had something much more special now. Connor wouldn't change it for the world, and in those moments he was so relieved that not only was he home, but that Abby was also.
“Connor, I think this shirt could go in the Guisness Book of World Records by now.”
"I think we both should be too," his face lit up slightly with a smile. "The two humans who survived in the Cretaceous the longest! I think it's got quite a nice ring to it. Cutter would be proud."
He mentioned Cutter not to add to the pain of the situation, but just as a force habit now. He had never really been able to accept that the Professor was gone, and used his name as a way to keep him in his life. He'd always weigh up his actions against how the Professor would judge him, and he swore it helped him a lot.
"Cappuccino..." Connor let his eyes roll in their sockets as his lips continued to smile. "And a hot chocolate too!"
He took a deep breath and stood up straight, lifting his head and shoulders in an attempt to shake off his irrational emotional outburst. He glance back down the corridor at Becker and Danny, and he wondered how Danny was feeling at not being alone any more. He'd talk to him another time, but not now. Now, he wanted to be with Abby; despite being with her for the last twelve months, this moment felt different.
"It happens when you don’t pay rent for a year.”
"Oh yeah, I didn't think about that." Connor frowned slightly, forcing his hands into his pockets. He looked around at the new ARC, the new smells, the new feeling, the new atmosphere. "I wonder what'll happen now."
