We know, we know. Another mod post. We can hear you all groaning and complaining about the unfairness of it all from here. So pipe down in the back and listen up!
We decided to let you know of the changes as they’re happening rather than wait a month to inform you all in our next mod post/activity check. Normally we’d try to wait and space them out but we judge this as being important enough to spam you with. Yes, the same rules apply. Reply to this post within a week or you’ll be removed from the game.
The subject that we want to talk to you about today is activity.
We’re very relaxed about activity here. Although we ask that you do something with all of your characters every six weeks this rule has never been enforced. However, we do ask that you’re active with at least half of your characters over a six week period of time.
We did an informal activity check for our own curiosity by using tags in the prideviewrandom community and discovered that quite a few characters haven’t been played there since April, and some have never been played at all. We don’t want to force you to play characters you might not be feeling at the moment, but we also don’t think it’s fair that some characters are kept by people that aren’t playing them.
From now on we will be checking activity with the use of tags in the communities every month or so. Players who are not playing at least half of their characters regularly (once every six weeks to two months) will not be allowed to hold or apply for new characters.
Remember, if you are having problems playing then just let someone know. We’re very understanding and we’ve all had periods of time where some characters aren’t easy to play or when we’ve been swamped by real life. However, if we don’t know that there are problems then we can’t make allowances.
This also ties in with our constant nagging to use tags. If you do not tag your entries then they will get missed and it could lead to us presuming that you are being inactive when you are actually posting and replying with characters.
Also, we ask that you don’t link people to the mod posts. We use them to judge who is still active within the game and reading the communities. If you miss one and get removed then you can always reapply.
The second thing that we want to talk to you about is original characters.
We are allowing original characters on a trial basis. For the next month (until 24th August) we will be allowing the application of original characters. We will be very careful about what original characters we allow into the game and we will require writing samples from people even if you are already in the game.
If your original character gets accepted but we decide not to continue allowing original characters then the character may remain in the game, although if you drop them you will not be able to pick them back up.
The rules towards original characters and the application are under the cut.
Original Character rules:
Character Rules:
1) No AU characters. This means you cannot play Lestat as if he'd never been turned into a vampire, Buffy if she'd been the one working for the mayor, or Elle Bishop if she was a mermaid. We really have no idea why you'd want to do that last one.
2) Nothing that contradicts canon. This means no genderswap, long lost relatives or future children by non-canon couples. And definitely no children from same gender couples in canons where that doesn't happen. Jack Harkness could potentially get pregnant. Rodney McKay could not.
3) No future children unless they've already been born in Prideview. This means that Zoe and Wash's babies can be played but the future spawn of Harold and Lucy Saxon cannot as they do not have children. And besides, that child would be the Antichrist, because we all know the Doctor is Jesus, and we have enough of those.
4) Fandom OC's ONLY. No solely original characters without fandom attachment. I'm sure Steve, your guitarist with one leg who works at the IHOP (yes, I went there) is great, but if he's not connected LOGICALLY to a fandom, you can't use him. And don't just attach a non-fandom OC to any random fandom to play them. Think it through logically.
Application rules:
1) You can only apply for an OC once you have a canon character. And you have to be active with that canon character. Don't pick up Xander and do nothing with him just so you can pick up Sally Sensitive.
2) Writing samples are needed for ALL OC's. Yes. Even from the mods. Every time. No exceptions. At all. Seriously. We're stricter with OCs, so we want to see what they're going to be like, so we can be sure they won't be Mary Sues. Because those are bad and make baby Jesus (not the Doctor this time) cry.
3) You can only have TWO OC's. Two. No more, no less. Well, okay, you can have less. But no more. Not three. Two. This is starting to feel very Monty Python. We'll stop now.
4) Applications need to be approved by two mods and might include a discussion with the player before they're accepted. It doesn't mean we don't love you. We do. OCs just require a closer look than canon characters.
