It was strange. She tried to listen and understand what was going on, but the music — though quiet, seemed to deafen her to the words of the others. She felt warm but cold, sad but happy. It was as though every emotion that ever existed was going through her body all at once, as though everything that ever was seemed to flow within her and around herself. Her hand never pulled from Tele’s, the Ood, as called it, struck her as a rather strange being but nevertheless it seemed like it was not something to be afraid of whatsoever.
The music, though — there was something about it, something that made her want to cry and never stop. Something so beautiful struck all the chords of her body in all the wrong ways. Why couldn’t she just find it pretty? And, finally realizing they had been talking to each other, Pearl tried to understand what he meant by telling Death that this was the universe singing and that it would be the last time for her to hear it. Did that mean she’d heard this many times before? Was she going to be hearing this again and again too?
She frowned suddenly. This was a path of death, wasn’t it? And if Pearl was walking it with her and she was not the one to die, did that mean…?
“Miss Tele…” But she didn’t finish, she simply couldn’t.
It was sad. Like an overwhelming sorrow that overtook her entire body and she could no longer control it. Biting her lip, her palm finally released her grip on the older girl’s hand and met with her other to bury her face into them. It was too hard, much much too hard, there was simply no holding back. The petite girl didn’t know if it was ‘too much’ or not, but it certainly wasn’t easy to keep her shoulders from jerking as she sobbed into her palms. She wasn’t certain if it was the music, or that she might be right in thinking that this walk — this song, meant that something awful was going to happen to Tele sometime in the future, but she could not help the tears that streamed and stained her cheeks.
