Why did she look so sad? What kind of work did she do that make her sad? Or perhaps, she simply didn’t like work and was sad to have to work at all. But that didn’t make sense, after all Miss Tele seemed like a rather delightful person; one that not even work could get them down. Pearl let herself frown for a moment, listening to the bit about how there would be nothing to look at and raised her brows somewhat curiously at that. How could there possibly be nothing to look at? Miss Tele was always rather full of surprises and this one shouldn’t be so terribly shocking for her.
Feeling a shiver course through her body and her skin prickle into goosebumps under the fabric of her clothing from the air that kicked up, Pearl glanced behind her to watch the image of the school grounds disappear and be replaced with darkness — nothing but darkness, all around.
Turning her head to look, she felt herself taking a bit of a step toward the older woman, squeezing her palm in her own and this time placing her free hand to Death’s arm, as though fearful of what there was in the room that simply wasn’t. Keeping her hold on Tele, Pearl began to walk with her, being left behind in a great nothingness wasn’t a thought that she was overly fond of. The last thing that she wanted was to be lost in, wherever this was, by herself. She glanced to her friend and tilted her head just slightly as though the words she just heard made no sense to her at all — which they didn’t.
“What do you mean, Miss Tele?” Her voice was quiet, for some reason she felt she needed to be in this area, as though if she spoke too loud something might come out from the darkness and frighten them both. “…what …time do you mean?”
