Will this never be over? As much as I hate to say this, I much preferred being a boy to this. At least I got to sleep at night

Private to Caspian:

Have you been getting any sleep lately? Even when I try to sleep, I keep seeing all these monstrous things in my dreams.

What is that saying? It takes one to know one? I think you only know my bratty behavior because you can also be one.

You did not just call me a brat. You're going to pay for that, you know.

Oh yes, I am quaking in my boots, Gentle Susan.

I'm stronger than I look, you know.

I do, actually. However, I doubt you will actually harm me, as you find me endearing and wonderful.

I don't mean physically.

I have no other idea about how you might potentially hurt me, then, and now find myself quite terrified.

I may not be as cunning nor as ambitious as my brother, Edmund, but... he had to learn his mind tricks from somewhere, didn't he?

You're lucky I like you.

I have no doubt you could best me in anything involving our minds, so...

You are lucky I like you as well. Our lives would be far less interesting if we did not like one another. Or far more interesting, depending on the outlook. Either way, I would not be happy if you did not like me.

Don't worry. I wouldn't hurt you. I would never want that.

Once when we were in Narnia, I received a marriage proposal from the prince of a nearby kingdom. I don't recall his name at the moment. Being away from Narnia makes me forget it. However, I do remember that when Ed and I arrived at his castle, we found him to be horrid and cruel. So we decided to escape through one of our clever plans. There was almost war afterward, but Ed and I both knew that marrying him wouldn't be right for Narnia. And it wouldn't be right for me.

I don't remember what happened to the prince after he invaded one of our neighboring kingdoms and Ed had to go with Lucy to provide military aid, but I knew for certain that we would have never escaped had we not worked together using his often deceitful ways and my wit. The prince would have forced me into marriage, and it would have been awful for everyone involved. I've never told that story to anyone but my siblings.

I think his name started with an R.

Well, I am glad you do not desire to hurt me over all. I am sure there will be times, however...

I know that it was long before my time, but I am very happy you did not marry that man, my Susan. And I am very glad that King Edmund was there to help you escape, not that I think you could not have made it on your own accord, but as you say, the two of you worked well together to extricate yourselves.

Thank you for trusting me enough to share your stories with me.

I may want to strangle you sometimes, but I won't want to do anything entirely evil. Though I am still capable...

Believe me, you aren't the only one who is glad about that. That was a disaster waiting to happen. I'm realistic. I know there was no way I would have gotten out of there had I not had Ed's help.

Of course. It's what married people do, isn't it?

It is acceptable for you to feel like you might strangle me, as long as you do not do so. I might be very sad if you did. And I have no doubt that you are capable.

Disasters should be avoided at all cost. I am glad you avoided yours, especially with your brother's help.

Of course, but that does not make me any less grateful.
