Who: Dani and Santana
Where: Rebekahâs house
When: Backdated to when Rebekah gave Santana her daylight ring (June 30th)
What: Seeing the sun
Status: Complete
Warnings: Mild sexy stuff, talk of blood drinking, nearly falling off rooftops
It was really, really early in the morning when Daniâs phone started vibrating under her pillow. She had set it purposely for five in the morning, because she had a big surprise in mind for her girlfriend: she was going to take her out to see the sunrise, for the first time in months. It might be lame, but Dani was sappy and romantic like that. She loved sunrises and sunsets; she was a starry-eyed, vaguely hippie-ish kind of person like that. The first time theyâd met, she and Santana had watched the sunrise together from the Spotlight Diner; she wanted to recreate that moment, now that Santana could finally be free.
Rebekah had surprised them both with a daylight ring sheâd had made for Santana the night before. Dani was thrilled for her girlfriend. She had wondered if sheâd ever be able to go out in the sun with Santana again, at this rate. She couldnât believe someone as capable as Rebekah was having such a hard time finding a witch. But now, she was just grateful she had. She knew how much it meant to Santana, though Rebekah hadnât let her take it without warning her to behave herself.
Reaching over, Dani gave Santanaâs shoulder a little shake. Sheâd just fallen asleep a few hours ago, but vampires, she knew, didnât require much rest, so even if she was a little cranky, sheâd make it. And sheâd thank Dani for it later. âBabe, wake up,â she coaxed.
Santana hadnât been asleep long when she felt Dani shaking her. Theyâd been up a little late, celebrating in their own way the fact that Santana had gotten a daylight ring. Rebekah had finally managed to get one made for her and now she wouldnât be cooped up inside all day. Needless to say, that had been exciting news and so sheâd gotten her celebration on with her hot girlfriend. The same hot girlfriend that was now trying to wake her up way too early. Santana grumbled, refusing to budge though and that only made Dani try that much harder. Finally Santana spoke, but didnât open her eyes still.
âYou better have a damn good reason for waking me up this early.â She grumbled. She so did not want to be up this early. Not when she didnât have to.
âIâm not reason enough?â Dani teased, pressing a kiss to Santanaâs earlobe. She knew the younger girl would be cranky, but she was prepared for that. She knew plenty of ways to soften her up, the first of which was pressing soft kisses down her neck and jaw.
âYou didnât get enough of this last night?â Santana teased, tipping her chin up to allow her girlfriend more access. Not that she was complaining really, she was always good to go when it came to getting her lady loving on. She was just kinda surprised Dani was waking her up so freaking early for it. But hey, when you wants it, you wants it. Santana knew all about that. âAnd yeah youâre damn good reason enough, but I mean, itâs like...fuck, what time is it even? Iâm guessing itâs like, uh, nobody in their right mind would be up this early oâclock or maybe going on what the fuck are you doing up oâclock. Am I close?â She teased, her hands coming up to slide into Daniâs blonde locks as her mouth continued to move over Santanaâs throat. âBut, suddenly, Iâm finding myself much more awake. Funny how that works, huh?â
âFunny,â Dani agreed with a smirk, leaning down to capture Santanaâs lips with her own. She knew Santanaâs babbling was just her regular crankiness, and as the fact that Dani was doing some of her best work here set in, she was definitely waking right up. âI bet youâre happy to be up at too damn early oâclock now, arenât you?â She had a few minutes to kill, so she pressed another kiss to Santanaâs jaw and set to work leaving a hickey on her neck, knowing it would heal instantly.
Santanaâs eyes nearly rolled back in her head as Dani sucked on her neck even harder. She knew what she was doing and even though it would pretty much instantly heal, it was still hot and definitely a huge turn-on. âOh you could say Iâm definitely getting more okay with the idea of waking up this early.â Santana said, in that low, sultry tone of hers. Two could play at this game though, she thought to herself, a devious smirk playing at her full lips. Within the blink of an eye, Santana had them flipped over, roles reversed as she held Daniâs arms above her head by the wrists with one hand, pinning her to the bed. Damn, she loved those vampire perks. âTwo can play that game.â She teased, leaning down, trailing her tongue along Daniâs throat before she let her fangs slide out. âI bet I know what you want.â Santana whispered, still teasing, but not giving Dani what she knew she wanted. âTell me.â
Dani couldnât deny that she was majorly turned on, especially when Santana flipped her onto her back like that, holding her to the bed. They had been playing this game for days now, and Dani had become kind of a regular meal for her girlfriend. It was still strange and dangerous, and she knew that, but a part of her enjoyed it, and Santana knew it. She locked eyes with the girl above her, biting her bottom lip. She could try to resist saying it, but they both knew she wanted it, and eventually, sheâd break. âBite me,â she breathed out finally.
There was no denying how incredibly hot things had turned between Santana and Dani with the sudden turn of events. Dani was really into letting Santana feed from her and it had become a regular addition to their every day. It had definitely become a regular part of their sex too. It was insanely hot and it also was helping Santana with her control. She never let it go too far, she would drink from her girlfriend and she was always able to stop before Daniâs heart stopped completely. It was a sexy little game they were both crazy turned on by.
Santana pulled back and looked down at Dani with her black, veiny eyes and fangs exposed as she waited on the older girl to tell her what it was she wanted. The Latina loved to make her girlfriend tell her what it was she wanted, sometimes she even liked to make her beg for it and God, it was so fucking hot it nearly drove her insane. Those words left Daniâs lips and Santana could see the lust and desperation in those chocolate brown eyes, they were exactly what she wanted to hear. But, since Dani had decided to wake her up so early, Santana decided she was going to have a little fun with the girl she now had pinned to the bed. âWhat was that? I donât think you really want it.â She teased, knowing how bad Dani wanted it and how bad this was torturing her. âThat wasnât very convincing.â
Dani was trying to stay focused here. If she let Santana drink from her -- and God, she wanted to -- she might get carried away and theyâd miss her surprise. But she couldnât deny she was wanting it. It had become such an every day thing, and it was seriously hot business. It always turned both of them on and only made sex even more incredible than usual. But if they started that up now, theyâd definitely miss her surprise, and she didnât want that. âTell you what. Iâll beg for you when we get through with my little surprise,â she purred out, stroking Santanaâs chin, entranced by her dark, veined eyes and her exposed fangs. This honestly veered straight into fetish territory.
Santanaâs brow arched at Daniâs words, surprised she had such willpower to not give in to what she was craving. And Santana knew she wanted it, she could hear the way her heart was beating, and she could almost taste the lust coming off her girlfriend in waves. But, she had some kind of surprise and she seemed pretty focused on and excited about it, so Santana let her features shift back to normal and she nodded. âYeah, okay.â She sighed. She was a little disappointed and truthfully, if she really wanted to, she could totally compel Dani into letting her finish what theyâd started, but she wouldnât. She was curious about this surprise. âSo, what is it? Whatâs this big surprise?â
âDonât huff at me,â Dani teased her, pressing another kiss to those waiting lips. âI just thought we should celebrate your newfound ability to be in the sun by⌠maybe being in the sun.â She smiled a little hesitantly, feeling silly now that sheâd gotten Santana all worked up and seen the disappointment on her face when she pulled away. But she still wanted to do it. âSunrise is in ten minutes. Wanna watch it with me?â
No matter how worked up sheâd gotten or how disappointed she mightâve been that Dani didnât want to finish what theyâd gotten started, Santana couldnât stay mad at her girlfriend. Pretty much ever, really. Dani was just one of the sweetest, kindest people Santana had ever known and she just couldnât stay pissed off at her, no matter what. Especially when she smiled at her. That smile gave Santana butterflies and made her all melty and heart racey and all the rest of that sappy shit she never believed in but was now experiencing.
She smiled at the blonde at the mention of the sunrise. Not only had Santana finally gotten a daylight ring (and a lecture from Rebekah about behaving), but the sunrise thing had special meaning for Santana and Dani. It had been something theyâd done together when theyâd first started talking. Yes, Santana Lopez watched the sunrise with a girl and yes, sheâd even found it romantic. Get over it. âYeah, I guess we can do that.â She teased, grinning at the shorter girl. âIâve almost forgot what the sun looked like itâs been so freaking long since Iâve actually like, seen it. So, now that I can again, I guess I should take advantage of that.â
Dani smiled widely, pleased that Santana actually did like the idea. Sheâd always loved the sunrise, but since it was one of the first things theyâd done together, it was a little more special now than it had been. And since, lately, theyâd been keeping the same hours, it had been a while since Dani had really been out in the sun too, and she really missed it. âGood,â she said, taking Santanaâs hand and squeezing it. âCan we sit out on the roof?â
âYeah, we can do that.â Santana nodded, slipping out of the bed and grabbing something to put on. She couldnât exactly go out on the roof naked. Tugging on a sports bra, she grabbed a pair of her old cheer shorts and pulled her hair back into a loose, messy ponytail. Thanks to the whole vampire thing, she didnât need her contacts or glasses anymore, so she didnât have to worry about any of that this morning. She waited for Dani to get herself together and she opened her bedroom window, crawling through it and helping her girlfriend out after her. Together they climbed to the top and Santana spread out the blanket sheâd grabbed and they sat down to wait.
Dani felt a little shaky up there on the roof. She liked the height, liked the feeling of the early morning summer breeze caressing her skin, but actually being out there, sitting on the roof, it was a little bit freaky. She settled back into Santanaâs arms, liking the solidity and calm of her girlfriendâs warm body against her. She closed her eyes for a few minutes, soaking in the feeling of safety. âThis is amazing,â she finally whispered. She was so, so glad Quinn was gone, and she and Santana could be together, no threats, again.
Santana could feel Daniâs fear, so she wrapped her arms around her tightly. It felt awesome to be out there, the sun just barely starting to rise and not have to rush inside for fear of burning to death. Santana held out her hand, looking at the ring on her finger with a smile. She was so grateful to Rebekah for going out of her way to get it taken care of for her. Sheâd thanked her, now sheâd have to remember to even maybe say a thank you to Liv, the witch whoâd made it for her.
The soft breeze felt good against her skin and she pressed a soft kiss to Daniâs cheek. âYeah, it really is, babe. This was a good idea, even though I was totally ready to kick your ass for waking me up.â
âYou would never kick my ass,â Dani retorted, opening her eyes and smiling at the younger girl. She knew that Santana was a big talker and just a total softie at heart. She loved every bit of Santana, big talk, sarcasm, bitchiness and all. But she had always seen right through to that mushy heart of hers, and that was what sheâd totally fallen in love with. She looked out at the sky, seeing the sun slowly creeping up into the sky. âNervous?â she questioned.
âYeah, kinda.â Santana admitted. She could always be completely honest and completely herself with Dani. She could let her guard down and let go of the facade and the bravado, it was nice. Sure, she was still herself, but she was her realest self with Dani. Itâd been that way since theyâd met and started dating. Itâd been so different with Dani than it had with Brittany. Sheâd always thought Brittany was her forever, her love of a lifetime, all that sappy shit Nicholas Sparks writes about, but she wasnât. Santana would always love Brittany, she was, after all, her first love, but when sheâd met Dani, when theyâd started dating, it was a whole new world. Dani was a full on, 100% lesbian (Sapphic Goddess as sheâd put it, and she was so right about that too) and Santana didnât have to constantly worry or wonder if she was gonna run off with some guy or decide sheâd rather date boys like Brittany had done to her so many times. Not only that, but the relationship with Dani had been the way a relationship should be, it was much more mature and equal and they both complimented and challenged one another in every way imaginable. With Brittany, there was just so much imbalance and it was so unhealthy. Thatâs why she didnât get it when Sam told her about how sheâd took off and went to Lesbos with Brittany and that they were back together and she hadnât even bothered to tell Dani, sheâd just...left. She wasnât going to do anything to screw this up with Dani, not now that things were back on track and they were doing so well. It still kinda sucked that Quinn was gone, Santana really had loved her too, she couldnât deny that. But, well, there was that whole everything happens for a reason or whatever and whatever that reason was, it kept bringing her back to Dani. That had to mean something, right?
âItâs hard not to be though, you know?â Santana said, after several long seconds of being lost in her thoughts. âI feel like I havenât seen the sun in so long.â
âI know. You havenât since Iâve been here,â Dani pointed out. Nearly the moment sheâd gotten here, she and the rest of Santanaâs friends had been informed that Santana had been killed and turned. It was a shock, and a lot to come terms with -- especially after sheâd just been yanked through a wormhole -- but she was just so glad Santana was still alive. Maybe she wasnât human anymore, but she was alive and well and acting just the same. That was all that mattered to her, and it was all that should matter to her friends too. âBut itâs okay. Thereâs nothing to be nervous about. No chance of burning up and dying today.â
Santana thought for a minute when Dani spoke and God, she was right. Dani had shown up just after sheâd been killed. Just after sheâd become a vampire. Quinn had been with her, sheâd had to witness Santanaâs death and then her rebirth of sorts. Sheâd had to deal with all the attacks as Santana tried to learn how to control her bloodlust and the fact that her girlfriend had another girlfriend that she was very much in love with. That all seemed like it had been forever ago. And it was really one hell of a fucked up situation now that Santana was seriously thinking about it. She hoped wherever Quinn ended up she was okay and she was probably happy as hell to be away from this fucked up place and all the drama. âGod, it really has been that long.â Santana said, still unable to believe it. It was just so crazy to think about that fact.
âNo burning up and dying.â Santana repeated, smiling down at the blonde in her arms. âThanks to a witch, a ring and a kick ass spell.â She smirked, holding out her hand to admire the ring again. âI havenât exactly tested it out yet, so hereâs hoping it works.â Santana was totally fucking with Dani, but she did hope it worked. She was really counting on it to, she didnât feel like bursting into flames and dying on the roof. That would pretty much suck.
No sooner had Santana spoken than the sun really began to come out, bathing them in the still low glow as it climbed higher in the sky. Dani smiled, playing with Santanaâs fingers where they were now resting on her stomach. âYou feel solid so far,â she said. She was partly teasing, partly making sure this really was working. Her heart was pounding, nervous that this spelled ring might not actually work and Santana would burst into flames or something behind her.
The warmth of the sun felt amazing against Santanaâs skin and she closed her eyes for a few seconds, just basking in it. Sheâd always loved the sun and been one of those girls who spent all summer every summer out in the sun, soaking up the rays and making her caramel skin even darker. Now she wouldnât have to hide in darkness any longer, she couldnât even express how freaking happy that made her.
âFuck! Iâm burning!â She screamed out, eyes widening and Dani turning around with panic and fear in those beautiful brown eyes. But, she couldnât keep up the facade and she burst out laughing. She knew it was mean, but she had to fuck with her girlfriend, it had just been way too easy.
Dani swore her heart nearly burst out of her chest, and she spun around, eyes wide, tears already starting to fall, and Santana was just there, laughing. Dani pursed her lips and narrowed her eyes at the younger girl. She always had thought she was hilarious, and Dani was usually willing to admit that she was. But this wasnât funny. This was mean, and Dani wasnât going to reward her for being a total asshole. She got to her feet without thinking and immediately began to slide toward the edge, the bottoms of her flip-flops not giving her much traction on the roof. And this time, she was the one that screamed out.
Okay, maybe sheâd gone too far when she saw Daniâs face as she turned around, tears already in her eyes. But she never had a chance to even say anything whatsoever before Dani shot her the death glare and quickly stood up, presumably to leave. Instead, she started losing her balance, screaming out as she went sliding off the roof. Fuck! Okay, that was not supposed to happen. Santana moved quickly, jumping off the roof and landing hard on the ground. She barely got to where she needed to be as Dani came falling down to where she was, Santanaâs arms going out to catch her girlfriend before she hit the ground. âAre you okay?â She asked, eyes wide with concern, worry and panic. It had totally been her fault and she was willing to admit that. âIâm so sorry, Dani. I didnât mean to freak you out, I was totally just fucking with you, I didnât know youâd fall. God, Iâm just fucking glad I have super fast reflexes now.â
Dani wrapped her arms around Santanaâs neck and buried her face against the other girlâs neck and just sobbed. She didnât want to. She wanted Santana to think she was strong, that she could just brush something like this off, but she couldnât. She thought she was going to die. She was sure she was going to die. If sheâd had her wits about her, sheâd have realized Santana was fast enough to catch her, and despite being an asshole, she would never let anything actually happen to Dani, but her logical mind wasnât working. All she could focus on was the fact that she was going to die in this alternate universe sheâd never wanted to be in, with a vampire girlfriend who was going to outlive her by centuries. She found herself hoping Santana didnât replace her so quickly again.
âHey, come on babe, itâs okay.â Santana said softly as she cradled Dani in her arms just the way sheâd caught her. She wasnât sure why sheâd suddenly started crying like this, other than the fear she could feel coming off her in waves. Fear that was her damn fault, sheâs the one who took that joke too far and almost got her girlfriend killed. âYouâre okay. Iâm sorry, it was totally my fault, but I wouldnât let you get hurt. Iâll never let anything happen to you, Dani. You know that.â She wanted to try and reassure the girl, so she knew, so she wouldnât ever doubt it. âI love you, babe and youâre okay. Talk to me, whatâs wrong? Why are you crying?â
Dani was really trying to calm down, breathing in and out and trying to speak through the overwhelming urge to cry. She knew Santana hadnât meant for this to happen, that she would never mean for her to get hurt, and she was grateful sheâd caught her. But she was still recovering from the whole incident -- she swore, that fall had taken like, ten years off her life. âI nearly died,â she finally gasped out. âThatâs... thatâs why Iâm crying.â
Santana pressed her lips together and nodded, lowering her gaze. âI know. Iâm sorry, Dani. I really am.â Just when she thought it wasnât possible for her to feel any worse, there it was. She felt like shit. Sheâd scared the hell out of her girlfriend, almost killed her and made her cry. Girlfriend of the freaking year, anyone? God, she felt like a total bitch now. âLook, Iâll take you upstairs to bed or if you wanna go...back to your house or whatever, Iâll take you there. Whatever you want, babe.â
Dani sighed deeply, succeeding in calming herself enough to speak clearly, at least. âPut me down,â she said softly, and a moment later, she was being set gently on her feet. âLook at me.â She waited until Santana was looking at her, reaching out to hold the taller girlâs face in her hands. âI shouldnât have tried to storm off like that. It was stupid. But donât you ever scare me like that again. Got it?â
Doing as she was asked, Santana set Dani gently back down on her feet, crossing her arms over her chest. Her lips were curved downward in a deep frown and her brow was furrowed as Dani ordered her to look at her, then held her face there. She felt like a total bitch, but she wasnât gonna like, argue the point because she knew the older girl had every right to be pissed at her. Santana just didnât like the fact that she was being called out on her shit. But, Dani had always done that and itâs one of the things that deep down, Santana loved about her. âYeah, I got it.â She said, moodily. Dani just looked at her and she arched a brow. âI said I got it, okay?â
It took a lot out of Dani to resist rolling her eyes. She didnât understand how Santana could be moody and snappy when sheâd scared Dani half to death just moments before. But it was whatever. She was trying to let this roll off her back; she was alive, in one piece, and Santana had apologized, so she was just moving on. She reached out, taking Santanaâs hand in hers and turned back to where the sun was still rising. âNo burning,â she noted softly. âThat must mean it works.â
And just like that, things went back to the way theyâd been just before Dani had fallen off the roof. Thank God, because Santana didnât feel like fighting with her girlfriend, it was way too freaking early in the morning for that. âYeah.â The Latina replied just as softly as Dani had spoken, lifting her shoulders in a shrug. âSeems that way.â She forced a slight smile, still feeling bad for what happened. âGuess I should like, say thank you to Rebekah and maybe even Liv for the ring.â
âI think theyâd appreciate that,â Dani agreed, leaning into Santanaâs side. She wasnât angry; she hadnât been angry, just scared and upset. She leaned up on the tips of her toes and pressed a kiss to Santanaâs lips, soft, sweet and quick. âI love you,â she said softly. It was the first time sheâd said it since theyâd gotten back together. Sheâd never stopped feeling it, but sheâd been hesitant to say it again, given that Quinn had just barely disappeared. But Santana looked like she needed to know, and Dani definitely needed to say it after everything that had just happened.
Santana froze when Dani said those words, her brow arched and she looked down at the shorter girl. It had obviously surprised her, though it shouldnât have, theyâd been dating for some time and theyâd said it a lot. But, since Dani had arrived in Portland and found that Santana was dating Quinn and then ultimately broke up with her because of it and then got back together with her soon after Quinn had been sucked back through the wormhole and disappeared, she hadnât said it. It had been awhile now since Dani had last told Santana she loved her. Santana said it, she told Dani she loved her at least once a day, because she did. Even when she was with Quinn, she had loved Dani too. But until now, in this moment, there had been no reciprocity.
âI love you too.â Santana replied, her frown fading and replacing it was a genuine, wide smile. She scooped Dani back up in her arms and kissed her deeply. She had her girl and now she had her daylight ring, things were definitely looking up again in Portland.
