Who: Elena and Tom
Where: Tom's House
When: Monday morning
What:'Elena goes to see Tom after he returns
Status: incomplete/on-going
Warnings: Probably none!

Elena was still pretty confused about learning that she’d died again and many of her friends dying. She’d also learned some things about travelers and that Katherine had died… Finally in her opinion. Too bad she couldn’t get rid of her here too. Maybe that was one of the only good things that had happened back home. Not that that was the right attitude at the moment. A lot of bad things were going on. What was important to her was that she had learned Jeremy was still safe and so was Matt. She’d wondered about Matt in particular since her whole run in with hell.

Despite how she would have loved to stay in bed she got up and got ready to see him. But there was no way in hell it was going to stop her from seeing Tom. One thing that saved her some time was she didn’t have to do the primping or her usual make up routine. So all she did was shower quickly and put on a tweed poncho, a hat and the glasses she seemed she had to wear in this body.

She stopped by the Cupcakery and bought some of the cutest cupcakes she’d ever seen and headed over to his place. She really hoped that he wouldn’t freak out when he saw her. But that was just a chance she would have to take. She would have to show him that she was still the same person just in a different body.

Once she got to his house she took a deep breath and knocked on the door. Out of habit she brushed her hair back and caught herself doing what she’d normally do in her own body. She needed to stop that, she’d gotten strange looks the other day by a group of teenaged boys. She wondered if she’d be more aware of it when and if she got her own body back. She better get her own body back. Tom finally came to the door. “I brought you some cupcakes.” She said shyly. She said wanting to hug him but having to wait until she was either invited in or he came outside.

It were right weird being back in Portland, but Tom had more on his mind than his brief slip back into his own world. He was here, with Nina and Eve and Elena, but Hal and Alex... well, they were probably still on the sofa watching Antiques Roadshow, for all he knew. He'd been alone before, for a little while before George and Nina found him hiding out in the woods, but he wasn't sure how to feel now he didn't have his usual support around him. He missed them, terribly. Tom hadn't been home-sick, not the last time, but now it were like part of him were missing. Torn away, leaving him feeling a bit bruised and battered.

But he had Elena, didn't he? Nina and Eve, too. Though right now it seemed they all needed him, which was a right turn about, but he couldn't let his girlfriend hurt if he could do anything to stop it.

While he was waiting for her, Tom made tea. Which, inevitably, reminded him of Annie. He pushed that thought to the back of his mind and concentrated on Elena's visit. It was gonna be weird, her being a man and all, but it was still the sweet, kind girl he'd fallen for. Even if it was a bit awkward to start with, he could remind himself of that, cause he loved her, didn't he? If the shoe were on the other foot Tom was sure she'd do her best to look after him too. Besides, it sounded like she'd had some bad news too, which he was bracing himself for when the door knocked. He smiled automatically. It was Elena's knock, he could tell it anywhere.

He tried not to stare when he pulled open the door, but it was a bit hard when there was a strange-looking bloke standing there offering him cupcakes. Tom shuffled for a minute, taking in Elena's scent, which hadn't changed at all. And if he concentrated on her eyes, he could see her looking right back at him, with a touch of fear that pushed him forward to hug her tightly. "I missed you," he said softly as he held her. "I made tea, cause I figured tea always makes things better, don't it?" There was no doubting how weird this was, but if he kept that smell in his nose, and remembered not to stare, they could handle this, couldn't they? "You sounded so sad on the network," Tom pushed a strand of hair behind her ear in a gesture he knew she loved. It wasn't needed, but he wanted to assure her there was nothing to be worried about. He was here for her. "Come on, Elena, let's get you inside and we can talk proper, like, eh?" Tom stepped back and ushered her back towards the kitchen.

Elena smiled and even got a little tearing eyed when she saw Tom relief swept over her knowing that he was really here again. It had been such an emotional week for her seeing someone that she loved was a huge relief. It was like she was trying stay strong for just about everyone else. People she would have usually turned to seemed emotionally shut off whereas Tom was just Tom. It was less complicated with him. There weren’t left over feelings to sort out or love triangles to deal with. So when she went into his arms she stayed there and let herself cry for a moment before trying to compose herself. “I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have.. I mean…” She let herself trail off tried to smile. “Tea sounds great, they should go nice with the cupcakes. I would have tried to bake something but we all know that I am not good in the kitchen.” Elena tried to put on an even bigger smile to tell him she was okay.

As she walked into his house she realized she’d never been here before. It was weird to know that Hal and his friend Alex, who she’d never met, used to live here. “Holly gave you a nice place didn’t she.” She said looking around. “Are you sure you don’t want sit down first… A lot has gone on and well, we may as well be comfortable.” She suggested. “The week… could have been better that’s for sure. First, I get this body, which I still haven’t gotten used to. Then… you left. And then Alaric, from my world comes in tells me and my friends from Mystic Falls all of this news that none of us stuck here had any idea about. I died, actually a lot of us did. But then only some of us came back. My boyfriend.. Ex.. Damon died and couldn’t get back to me.” She sighed about to cry again, then she felt bad that she was talking about Damon when she was happy with Tom but the reality was that she would always love him even if they weren’t together. “And that doesn’t even begin to cover the troubles of what has happened while I’ve been away from home… I just find it so unsettling knowing there are people back home that I can’t protect... Because I am here.”

He didn't try to comfort her, other than letting Elena hold onto him for as long as she needed. Tom didn't know why she was so upset but if crying was what would help her feel better, then crying it was. Sometimes there was just no other way to express yourself. "Hey," he pulled back slightly so that he could meet her eyes, "it's alright. It's me here, you don't have to put up a brave front," Tom told her softly and when she was ready he nodded and followed her inside. He couldn't help feeling worried. Elena was usually so strong, but right now she seemed beaten down in a way that he'd never seen. "I think things are bad enough, without your cooking adding to our problems," he teased, giving her shoulder a squeeze to let her know he wasn't too serious.

He couldn't make the cakes and things look all pretty like what Caroline could, but he put them out on a plate and set the pot of tea on the table in the front room so that they could help themselves. It meant they could sit together, on the sofa, so that he could hold Elena's hand as she talked. Tom didn't know all of the people she mentioned, but there was so much pain in her voice that it broke his heart to see it.

And she'd died. He couldn't even begin to comprehend having someone show up and tell him that. It didn't bother him that, for a moment, Elena slipped as she talked about Damon. She was here, wasn't she? That meant that she needed him and not the bloke she'd been almost torn into pieces for. He knew that the two vampire brothers she'd been with would always occupy a place in her heart every bit as much as Alison was a part of his. It didn't mean there wasn't room for him too. More than room, given what they'd been through here together. He didn't know Elena's home, but he'd heard her talk about it so much that he could almost picture it and when she talked about being so scared and lost - not to mention having so much death around her - well, it was terrifying.

"It's one of the hardest things about being here, is that," he frowned as he gave her hand a squeeze. "Back in Barry we're supposed to be fighting of the devil and such, but instead we have to keep on living here like everything were normal," Tom pulled her close. "I'm so sorry about Damon, I know how much you care about him," he said into her hair, which smelled just the same as he'd remembered it, the shampoo and everything was the same, even if Elena's body had changed. "I can't begin to think how hearing so much bad news must have hit you, but it ain't happened. Not yet, anyway. You can't live life here always thinking of what might be going on back in the real world. You'd go mad," he squeezed her softly, "not that you're not a little bit mad already. Missing me, that's fairly bonkers," he gently teased her. "Have you talked to your friends? The ones that died, I mean?" Tom asked.

Elena wasn’t that used to relying on people to help her or comfort her but Tom being there felt nice. It felt good to feel secure when all week she thought she was going lose her mind if she found out one more person had died or disappeared. The only thing she could feel somewhat secure in is that Tom was here now and in a strange way that really was a comfort. For that reason she held on to him just a little tighter. “I’m so used to trying to be the strong one for everyone else….” She offered as an explanation and then she stopped. Elena smiled as he teased her about her cooking. “Don’t worry I won’t disgrace you with my cooking.” She was starting to cheer up a bit.

She settled into the couch next to Tom once he got everything set up and set it on the table. She reached over for a cup and some tea. She could smell a rich blend of herbs and spices that made up the tea. She put in a sugar cube just for good measure and gave it a stir. She leaned back against Tom as they got settled. At least in Portland nobody was after her doppelgänger blood and here she was somewhat safe. Was she somehow better off here than in Mystic Falls? The only problem was that she missed certain people that weren’t here with her. So how could she be better off? No, that was a ridiculous thought she would much rather be back in Mystic Falls than in Portland. Except that she wouldn’t have Tom back there. Why were things becoming more and more difficult to sort out?

Elena became nervous as she mentioned Damon and the other people from home. But it wasn’t like Tom didn’t know about the Salvatore’s. She was happy that he barely flinched at her mentioning everything Alaric had told them. She would have gone on about things at home but she didn’t want to bore him completely. So she didn’t say much more.

Elena nodded “I agree, although I have to admit after being here for five months this is also starting to seem more and more like home.” She shrugged it was true. Sure she was powerless as to what went on at home and she would like to know people she still cared about were safe but she had no control over it. But Mystic Falls didn’t put her through Hell or change her into a man. “Barry sounds just as crazy as Mystic Falls.” She said with a smile. She was starting to feel better just by being able to talk about all of her worries. “I haven’t talked much to either Caroline or Stefan. But I probably need to… I’m just not looking forward to those conversations.” She squeezed his hand back firmly and sighed a bit when she felt him smelling her hair. She laughed when he said bonkers. She loved his accent and the way he said certain things were well adorable. “Then I guess I really am crazy and I’m okay with that you know.” She said as she pulled him closer and kissing him softly on the lips. It was a little strange if she were completely honest since it didn’t feel like the usual kiss with her normal lips. She looked at him “Was that weird?”

He couldn't help it, he grinned, "well that's why you've got me, ain't it? To be strong for you, when you need it," Tom gave her a gentle nudge, "I know you'd do the same for me, if it were reversed." So for now he'd hold her up while she was getting her feet back on the ground. He didn't doubt it'd take Elena long, she were that kind of girl, weren't she? Didn't let much of anything keep her down for too long. It was one of the things he liked about her, that and her smile, which were infectious.

It still felt a bit unreal, being with Elena, but in a good way. Like being in a really good dream that you didn't want to wake up from. Only she were a bloke, which were a bit strange, but he'd get by so long as she needed him there. Tom just wished he could be more actual use, other than just making her tea and listening, which didn't seem much of anything, when she had so many other problems to deal with.

"It ain't usually so mental in my world," he said with a sad smile, thinking of how his friends spent their days working and making a life for themselves, trying to be human in a world that didn't want them to be. It made Tom miss them all the more, but he didn't say so. "Usually it's a quite place, except for when the vampires kick off, or the Devil decides to start an apocalypse. You'd probably like it," he told Elena with a smile. It'd be nice to show her around his world, though she already knew Alex and Hal from work. He felt a pang of emptiness as he looked at the room, knowing they weren't likely to be here again any time soon. He had Elena, though, and that counted for a lot.

"Yeah, I don't blame you being a bit worried about how those conversations might go, but you all have to be struggling with this, right?" Tom said frowning into her dark eyes, concentrating on the soul inside, and not on the surroundings. "They've got to deal with loosing a lot too," he stroked Elena's hair, trying to tell her with his touch all the things he couldn't make understood in just words. They had to loose her. It was more than he could bare to think of, and he'd only just met her, in the grand scheme of things. How they felt, well, only she could find that out, couldn't she?

He wasn't entirely expecting the kiss, but when it came Tom went along with it. It was a bit weird, getting tickled by whiskers, but it was still her. "It's a bit weird," he told Elena with a shy smile, "but it was okay. You need a shave though, my girl," he didn't like the thought of her thinking he was worried by it, though, and gave her another quick peck. "Next time you tell me you're getting razor rash, I'll be a lot more sympathetic," Tom told her with a grin.
