For nearly half of his life Chris remembered what it was like to have a sister who was considered the golden child. When Chris was brought into his training he was the one who knew everything, did everything and killed even before Kate had her go at it. Chris thought that he would be a guide, the big brother who would show his sister everything and what it took to be a hunter. He was wrong the moment that Kate took her own mantle. As a female Argent, the only one born from Gerard and their mother, she was the only who would carry on the torch as leader. Chris wasn’t jealous. He knew the code, he knew that above all else he was a soldier and his job was to obey and respect Kate as the leader of their family.
Kate’s unstableness never went unnoticed but Chris saw how Gerard took advantage of it, bending Kate’s will to a breaking point, turning his very own daughter into a cruel, twisted individual who took her role as a hunter on a pleasurable note than a serious one. Chris watched as Kate not only hunted werewolves but enjoyed taking their lives. A hunter had their code but Kate didn’t seem to care much for it. Kate killed on demand. Gerard pointed a finger and Kate was his personal trained dog. Maybe on some level they all were but Chris knew his boundaries. He followed tradition even when his family decided to stray for it.
With Kate’s death, however tragic it was, Chris was relieved that it was now Allison’s job to become the head of the Argent line. He didn’t want Kate to follow after her from the grave and he didn’t want Kate’s personality to bleed into his daughter’s. With Kate gone it was easier for Chris to train Allison the right way, the way that she needed to be trained without her aunt’s or grandfather’s influence. Chris had never forgiven Gerard for using Allison for his personal agenda and he wasn’t sure if he could forgive Kate for nearly dragging Allison to her death when they encountered Peter Hale.
All of that seemed like ages ago – Kate was alive now, she had been turned by Peter’s claws when her throat was slashed and was now some sort of werejaguar. He didn’t know how it happened or why but Kate was back and he was going to see her for the first time in months. Chris wasn’t nervous but he felt himself become uneasy at the thought of seeing her.
He waited with Allison as the minutes ticked by. Kate was supposed to join them for a family dinner. They were to eat peacefully and discuss how to move forward. Chris was preparing the salad when he heard the knock on the door, his eyes falling to his daughter as he carried the bowl over to the dinner table. Chris felt the tension rise instantly but he bit back his emotions for the sake of Allison who wanted them to be together – the three of them as a family. The way it should be.
