Melissa was going to flip the hell out if she hadn't checked the network at Holly's suggestion and found that Faye was roaming around here too. Some part of her didn't believe, like they were all holograms or something. She saw the other members of the circle briefly as she scrolled through pages of network posts and conversations and she had talked to some guy that was going through the same initial shock period that she was going through. But she even had a hard time believing that Caleb was real. After experiencing a hologram, Melissa wasn't sure she would believe that anyone was real until she could touch someone. For all she knew this was some crazy scheme put together by Blackwell or the witch hunters. It was magic, it had to be but it wasn't like the witch hunters had never worked with a witch before. She also saw a man on the network that looked exactly like Isaac and that hadn't helped Melissa's mood at all.
It was difficult to stand still and the sterile smell of the hospital and the hustle and bustle of nurses and doctors seemed overpowering. Melissa had never spent much time in a hospital but this seemed excessive. What was going on? Why were there so many more sick people? Melissa had lived her entire life in Chance Harbor and while she had visited Portland before she wasn't terribly familiar with it. She did know it was a much bigger city than the small town she grew up in. Maybe this was how hospitals were in the bigger cities or maybe she was just losing her goddamn mind and this was all some kind of spell or nightmare or hallucination. She didn't know and she wouldn't relax until she could hug Faye and feel that she was actually real.
She would want to see the other circle members too. Adam topped her list and somebody had to check on Jake. It wasn't like they were best friends but they did share the love of one very dead person in common. Then there were Cassie and Diana who Melissa had grown closer to much to Faye's consternation. Melissa might be Faye's trusty sidekick and occasional kicked puppy but she still did what she wanted and socialized with who she wanted. Faye hadn't approved of Nick and even though it bugged Melissa that she couldn't ever seem to get her best friend's approval unless she was just doing everything that Faye wanted to do all the time. Contrary to popular opinion, Melissa was her own person. It was just that she was surrounded by dominant personalities who tended to overshadow hers. It wouldn't stop her from doing what she wanted when she wanted and she was pretty sure Faye had come to realize that by now. Of course, last time she had seen the entire circle Diana was running away at top speed and Cassie was bewildered for good reason. The entire experience with John Blackwell was awful and Melissa was glad it was over.
But was it over? A wormhole? What the hell did that even mean? Melissa didn't know about wormholes. She knew lots about potions and spells and witch hunters but wormholes were a new mystery to her. It seemed that things would not slow down as they had all hoped they would. It seemed like things just continued to get even more crazy. At least Melissa could attempt to fight off witch hunters now that she had her solo magic back. How could she possibly fight a hologram? She couldn't even touch Holly. She was nothing, insignificant, the messenger and one that you couldn't shoot. Something bigger was behind all of this.
Faye finally pulled up to the curb at top speed in some ridiculously expensive car that actually belonged to Diana. Melissa arched an eyebrow in her friend's direction but it only lasted a second before she rushed to Faye and hugged her tightly. Faye was never big on affection but Melissa had to hug her, had to know she was real. Once she was convinced that she was, she let go of her friend.
"I am so glad you're here. What the hell is going on?" she demanded as they got in the car. The car was weird but not as weird as the hospital and Melissa was happy to get as far from it as possible.
