Who: Kol, Rebekah, Hayley, Klaus & Elijah
Where: Klaus and Hayley’s home.
When: The night that Kol arrived in Portland
What: An Original Reunion
Status: Complete
Warnings: Family drama.

Kol was delighted.

And he had a right to be. It was magnificent how it all worked out in the end. Sure, he had died, rather properly. It was fair, but it still burned him. He had pride, you know. The fact that Elena and Jeremy Gilbert had gotten the better of him was beyond any sort of comprehension. But even he couldn’t be angry at that, not right now. He was alive. He was free. And while his adoring family was also in Portland, his devoted family (and he thought that rather loosely) had practically found a home so easily, he thought he would do just fine. A little note on the tablet had spawned so many interactions, Kol was having the time of his life. Just talking to people, meeting people and also talking with old enemies, and possibly new. He couldn’t give a toss, really - he was alive. And he’d do what he pleased.

Rebekah had told him to find her and it wasn’t long until he had knocked on her door. Of course, before that, he had met a rather beautiful girl, perhaps walking home. He probably still had her blood on his lips as his sister greeted him with open arms. And then there was Elijah. Oh, Elijah, the stiff original who always preached his morals. Yes, yes, mother didn’t make us monsters, we did that to ourselves. Kol had heard it time and time again, but it wouldn’t stop him. His reunion was short with those two. Once he started speaking with Klaus, he had other things on his mind.

And what a time they had. Kol had been briefed on his hybrid brother. He had a daughter and had been playing house, although Klaus thought it differently. Kol had yet to see Clara, but he was excited to meet the young girl.

He supposed he should have gone back to Rebekah and Elijah’s. He was sure the two would fill him in, but it was a rare night, what with him being back and Klaus not threatening to toss him in a box that he went back with Klaus to his home. Upon walking in however, there was Elijah, Rebekah and a girl who he assumed was Hayley. He grinned proudly, high off the hunt and kill and blood most importantly. Klaus did know how to have a good time after all.

“Brother. Sister.” He walked proudly toward Hayley. “And you must be Hayley. Pleasure, love.”

Rebekah could not have been more thrilled to see that Kol had arrived. Despite her brother’s mockery of how quickly she had gotten past his death, she had missed him, greatly. It was a good part of the reason she was so eager to befriend David – he was her brother’s spitting image. Of course, Kol was clean-shaven where David was a tad scruffy; Kol was a pain in the ass, obnoxious, where David was kind and never caused her any trouble. Nevertheless, she was happy he was here, if a bit worried for his well-being. He was notoriously carefree when it came to feeding and if approached by a hunter, he would not hesitate to kill them and effectively shatter the peace Elijah and Rebekah had done their best to broker. Already, Rebekah had been contacted by Stefan, ordered to handle it by her ex-boyfriend. But handling Kol was going to be quite a challenge.

Kol had been by the home she shared with Elijah only briefly before he had run off with Niklaus on some sort of feeding spree. Rebekah envied them, but she had responsibilities now. She had a business and a fledgling that needed her, and given Santana’s recent indiscretions, she had to do what she could to set a good example. So she went off to work, though she left Santana to close up shop and made her exit early. She and Elijah spent as much time as they could at Klaus and Hayley’s home, spending time as a family with baby Hope – Clara, rather. Rebekah had yet to tell her family about her influx of memories from their home world, where everything had gone to hell and Klaus had given his daughter a different name. It was confusing enough for her to handle herself; she didn’t want to confuse the rest of her family as well.

“Honestly, Kol, you couldn’t have taken a moment to clean yourself?” Rebekah chastised with a disapproving frown; but the happiness she felt seeing him was clear in her eyes. She felt as if her family was whole again. Her brothers were all here – aside from Finn, but Finn had never been very brotherly toward her – and she now had a brand new baby niece and honorary sister too. Life was so blissful here compared to the constant conflict of their home universe. “And yes, this is Hayley. Watch your step around her. She’s been known to put even Nik here in his place.” She smirked at her brother, giving her best friend’s shoulder a fond squeeze.

Hayley narrowed her hazel eyes in Kol’s direction. Elijah had glossed over what were likely the less tasteful things Kol had done before he had been killed. Normally, Hayley may not have automatically held the past over someone’s head again. She and her family had all done some really screwed up things, and the longer they lived, the more screwed up they got. But they were her family. It was how everyone was reacting to Kol’s presence that had Hayley tense and on guard.

She nodded at Kol slightly. “Nice to meet you.” She couldn’t help the small smirk that turned up the corner of her lips when Rebekah had mentioned that she had managed to even put Klaus in his place from time to time. That was true. Hayley may have been in over her head with the originals but she had proven that she could hang. She was one of them now and she couldn’t help but act a bit like them.

And that was discounting the fact that she had been twitchy ever since Liv had brought her the fairy blood. She had no idea that fairies were even real or even how Liv had managed to acquire the fairy blood. The more time that passed, the less Hayley craved the blood. But every once in awhile her mind wandered back to that taste. It was the best drink she had ever had, without a doubt. She wanted more of it but Liv was holding out. Hayley knew she shouldn’t have said anything on the network. It wasn’t like her to run her mouth publicly about stuff like this but she had been altered, the blood was like a drug. She made a bad decision. And now she was afraid that she would be driven to extremes to get more, like breaking into Liv’s shop and ransacking it. She wasn’t above doing it and that thought alone filled her with an immense guilt. She might be one of them but would never be one of them. The cool look she gave Kol now expressed that perfectly.

It had been quite the surprise to have Kol show up in Portland, but Klaus couldn’t deny how good it was to see his dearly departed brother. He’d been quite the family man since Clara’s birth and it was nice to have his family together again. Sure, Finn wasn’t here with them, but his presence wasn’t as missed as it would have been had any of the others been absent. To welcome his dear brother back into the fold, Klaus had taken him out on a bit of a feeding spree. While they still had some of the hunters, namely his favorite little hunter, still here, he felt he’d behaved himself long enough and a celebration was long overdue. They’d been careful, still, with their choices and not killing anyone. It was definitely a testament to self-control that they were both able to enjoy a night of fine, from the vein dining without incident. He’d been flying under the radar for far too long, it had been quite pleasurable to lose even the slightest bit of control.

Rebekah and Elijah were at his and Hayley’s home when he and Kol returned and Klaus couldn’t help but smile at the impromptu reunion. He poured himself a drink as Kol became acquainted with Hayley, he would meet Clara soon enough, it was likely she was sleeping at this hour. “Now, now, sister.” Niklaus started, turning back to face his siblings and the mother of his child. “It’s been far too long without our dear brother, I think we can cut him a bit of slack, don’t you?” He lifted his glass and took a sip, smirking over the glass at Rebekah. “Besides, given recent events with your fledgling, you’ve no room to lecture anyone about any sort of mess. Epitome of a mess that one.” He chuckled, though he found Santana quite amusing. They’d formed a bond of sorts, until his sister had intervened, deeming him a bad influence on the new vampire. “Though, she’s not wrong about Hayley.” Klaus chuckled. “Quite the handful she is, that one. Definitely a force to be reckoned with.” He smirked again, in Hayley’s direction before turning back to pick up the bottle of bourbon he’d just poured his drink from.

“Get us some glasses, brother.” He addressed Elijah with a slight arch of his brow. “I’d say a toast is in order to welcome Kol back into the fold.”

While it was nice to have his brother in Portland with them and their family had once again, been reunited, minus Finn, Elijah couldn’t help but also feel as though this would come to an end in a rather dreadful way. Kol was a loose cannon so to speak, he was the troublemaker, but perhaps Niklaus had done too much of a number on him. Having him locked up tight only to be freed in a time and age where society was now the land of impulse didn’t help matters. But it was how it should be, his family was reunited and now he had to make sure that Kol stayed in line.

Elijah nodded dutifully and grabbed glasses from the next room and brought them over as Niklaus poured drinks freely for everyone in the room. The lecture would come later and while Eljiah was well aware that Kol had gone out to have a night with Niklaus, he could only imagine what they had done. Elijah had worked hard to build a relationship with Allison, but she had already messaged him regarding Kol. He would have to be put on a tight leash, he knew this and he would have to suggest it.

Kol kept his eyes on Hayley, giving her a smirk. “Well, you’re a rather strong girl to put up with the likes of that one,” he teased lightly, indicating Klaus. “He gets finicky in his old age.” What? He was speaking freely and more so the truth. It wasn’t a lie and Kol was sure that he wasn’t going to meet the end of a dagger tonight. That would be poor taste really. He knew he wanted to get to know Hayley, surely. But tonight wasn’t the night for that.

Klaus poured the drinks and handed them out and while they toasted, Kol couldn’t help but smile. All for him. He couldn’t be anymore happier in this moment.

“So, tell me. Rebekah had informed me that a hunter has already gotten to her. Why is this hunter still alive -”

Elijah cut him off at that moment, holding up his finger, stopping him. “We have made an agreement since that moment and all has been peaceful.” Elijah glanced at Niklaus for some sort of confirmation, but wasn’t surprised when his brother wouldn’t look at him. “Either way, yes, we know and while there was nothing more that I wanted to do than to rip her heart out, there were much more important matters than the hunters death. No doubt the fact that it would have started a war and there was a child being carried at the time. We were able to rescue Rebekah and at this moment, I consider the matter closed.”

Kol kept his eyes on Elijah. His brother, the one that he did in fact respect. Klaus, ever the fun brother when he wasn’t off having a hissy wasn’t as level headed as Elijah and while Kol respected Elijah, he certainly approved of Klaus’s methods. Which surprised him to no end that Klaus didn’t finish the bitch off, but he bit his tongue on that.

Rebekah couldn’t help the smirk of amusement that touched her lips when Kol called Nik finicky. He wasn’t wrong; Nik could be a bit finicky, a bit like an old woman, especially given how tamely he’d been behaving as of late. She was a bit surprised, however, that he didn’t have anything to say when Nik chastised her about Santana. Oh, she was sure Kol would enjoy Santana, try to corrupt her when he was paying stricter attention. For the moment, she was glad it had gone without acknowledgement and shot Klaus an irritated glare. She was doing what she could to take care of her fledgling and as much as she loved her older brother, she knew Kol would not stand for Santana behaving more like human than a vampire.

“Really, Kol, it’s over and done with. Elijah and the hunter are bosom buddies now,” she snarked. “You don’t need to worry.” She acted as if she didn’t particularly care about Elijah’s friendship with Allison, but it did feel a little bit like a betrayal. She knew her moral brother, though, was doing what he felt was best so she rarely commented. She took a seat in a nearby armchair, crossing her legs and taking a drink from the glass Klaus handed her.

Hayley was getting aggravated. In truth, Hayley had always been wild, impulsive, reckless. Her moods were so whimsical they might have even made Klaus himself take a step back. As she grew older, she grew more protective and that instinct had been heightened triplefold since Clara had been born, or maybe since she had become a hybrid. It was difficult to tell which as they had happened simultaneously.

She didn’t like Kol. There was just something in his slimy little smile. She knew that he thought himself charming, but Hayley thought he was about as charming as a fucking serial killer. She heard Ted Bundy was charming too and look at what happened to him. She sure as hell didn’t want Ted Bundy around her baby but she was guessing with the way Klaus’s eyes were beaming with joy that she was shit out of luck in that department. Hayley was going to be watching him closely.

“Elijah’s doing what he thinks is right,” Hayley said, working to hold onto her temper as she looked at Rebekah. Getting pissed at her wasn’t going to help situations and it would make Hayley a hypocrite. Because she had been pissed off about Elijah being friends with Allison too until she had heard out Elijah’s reasons for being friendly with the hunter girl. Now that she knew, she understood.

“And the hunter is still alive because she doesn’t actually work alone. All the hunters are thick as thieves and she has a whole pack of werewolves at her disposal. So let’s not piss her off, okay?” That last part was directed straight at Kol. She didn’t think anyone else was going after Allison and the other hunters anymore. Klaus had put that feud to rest as far as Hayley knew. Elijah was now friends with the girl and Rebekah just avoided them altogether, which was Hayley’s tactic as well. It was all for the best but Kol would probably screw that up.

“It’s not just us anymore,” she said, a good reminder for everyone. “We have to think about Clara.”

Niklaus stayed quiet as the subject of Allison Argent was brought up and his jaw clenched, though he didn’t dare allow his reaction to be visible to any of his siblings or Hayley. While he didn’t quite understand how his brother could rush out to befriend the young hunter who’d so brutally tortured their sister and attacked him in his home soon after he’d sought his own retribution, he’d stayed quiet on the subject. Perhaps he had grown somewhat soft with his daughter’s arrival. However, that didn’t mean he’d forgotten the revenge he would seek one day against the girl and her pet wolf. Elijah was cozied up to her, often even seeking her help on things Klaus felt they didn’t necessarily need it on, and while the original vampire didn’t agree with it, he’d chosen to take the nonpartisan approach to it. That didn’t, however, as he was sure they assumed, mean he’d forgotten his intentions as far as the little hunter was concerned. One day, he would strike and it would be a day no one expected it. No, Klaus was definitely not the forgive and forget, let’s be friends type, it was more of a save this toy for a rainy day when I really want to play type. But that was for another time, his concern now was his family, Clara and Hayley.

“I think we’ve had enough talk of the little hunter and her pet wolf or wolves, as it were.” Klaus said, nodding towards Hayley as a sign of his agreement. “Hayley’s right. Our main concern now is Clara and as we’re all aware, she’s inherited all of our enemies as well as those out there who seek to become new ones.” He took a sip of his drink and looked around the room at his family, his eyes lingering on Kol. “While we are all fully capable of handling matters ourselves should any threat present itself, we don’t need to cause any problems for the time being either.” He arched a brow at his younger brother, his words obviously directed towards him and his unruly behavior. “That being said, brother, I’m all for having fun and enjoying a night as we enjoyed tonight, but that is a far different matter than instigating unwelcome issues with other familiar faces here in Portland. Should this treaty be breached, I will not hesitate to resort to old habits to keep anyone who needs it in line. I’m sure no one wants to ruin a perfectly good family reunion by ending up back in a coffin taking another century long nap.” His lips twisted in his usual smirk and he glanced at his other brother and then his sister. “Are we all understood on this matter?” Yes, that meant Klaus had his trusty daggers and also the white oak stake and when it came to Clara and any threats made because of the actions of his siblings, he would not hesitate to use any means necessary.

Kol listened to them all rather intently, their words moving in one ear and out the other until he heard the threat that would literally stop him in his tracks and make him think about what he would do before he would do it. Of course, that would only last so long, his persistence and boredom would be a mixture that his family could not tolerate and he would one day end up in that coffin, taking his century long nap.

“Of course, we wouldn’t want that,” Kol said, taking a sip of his drink and looking toward his siblings and even Hayley. It seemed as though they found their spot in Portland Kol would only muck it up, as usual he assumed. Well, then it was a good idea to stay in line for the time being, perhaps get a hobby. Do a little knitting on the side. Surely Clara could use some booties. But he knew that not to be true and his time would come, but not soon enough.

Elijah found himself biting his tongue on the matter of Allison Argent. His friendship with her was not up for debate and he was pleased when Niklaus had no doubt turned the subject onto something much more important. However, his threats were tired and it only came to show that he did in fact have his daggers, perhaps the stakes as well. Something that Elijah did not know about and now he was curious, but he would not voice his curiosities at the moment. It seemed as though Niklaus had left out rather important details, or he would have much rather had the upper hand, as he usually did. He had let his guard down just then though, revealing more than Elijah would have, but it seemed to have worked on Kol. He was rather calm compared to when he had first arrived. He did not take Niklaus’ threats lightly, still after all this time.

“So, now that you’ve been made aware, we are in fact all responsible for raising this child. Niklaus has done a wonderful job of shifting priorities and taking careful charge of Clara, along with Hayley. Rebekah has been there since day one, being a doting aunt and I’ve been there as well.” His eyes moved to Hayley for a moment, seeing darkness in them before he turned his attention back to Kol.

“I do hope she has the same effect on you, brother. She is, after all, family and perhaps the only family that will be given to us from this day forth. She’s blood. She will be treated with respect and love and we will give her nourishment. Her needs are more important than your own, or your threats, or your revenge. I do hope you understand.”

“You all act as though I’m going to go run amok in this town. Perhaps you all should lighten up,” Kol smirked and set his drink down. “But, if it means as much to you as you all are pressing, then yes, I will be on my best behaviour. Just as I’m sure you all truly are.”

Rebekah had already known that Nik had his hands on the daggers. He had threatened her publicly with one when their genders had been switched; all because she was trying to be a bit playful and lighten him up. Oh but no. The Great Niklaus could not stand to be a member of the fairer sex, and any teasing about his predicament was met with the threat of being shut up in a coffin for another fifty years. Rebekah hadn’t taken it too seriously but she’d stopped teasing him after that and kept that bit of information to herself. She didn’t need Elijah starting something with Nik when, for the most part, Clara’s arrival had tamed him.

“Good boy,” Rebekah smirked up at Kol from her seat, taking another drink. She did hope Clara’s existence had the same calming effect on Kol she seemed to have had on Klaus. They were the two most troublesome – and if this baby was the magic cure-all and would keep her brothers calm that was what mattered. It didn’t hurt that Clara was absolutely adorable, and Rebekah was sure even Kol couldn’t resist that face for too terribly long.

Hayley just stared a hard line into Kol. She wasn’t really thrilled with this whole ‘we all have to raise the baby’ mentality that Kol’s siblings had going on. She got a bad vibe from Kol all the way around and she didn’t want Clara around him. He was still Klaus and Rebekah and Elijah’s brother and Clara’s uncle. There wasn’t anything she could do about that. Kol had as much a right to Clara as Elijah and Rebekah did. The difference was that Elijah and Rebekah had been at her side when she gave birth, they helped protect her, even from Klaus when it was necessary. They had helped Klaus rescue her and Clara from those crazy werewolves. They were there and Kol wasn’t.

When Kol stepped near her, she physically bristled. Her senses were heightened from being a hybrid now and she was still adjusting to it. Right now her senses were telling her that this was a predator, not family. If Kol truly wanted Hayley’s respect and love, he was going to have to earn it just like his siblings did. He wouldn’t just automatically get it because he shared a mother with the rest of the Mikaelson siblings.

“I’m going to go check on the baby,” she said. Her dark eyes hadn’t left Kol as if she had to watch him all the time. That was one thing about most mothers that was great. They grew eyes in the back of their head. Hayley was going to watch Kol closely before she was ever going to be comfortable letting him alone with Clara. When she had a moment alone with the Mikaelsons she would let them all know that she wasn’t going to appreciate Kol being alone with Clara until he earned her trust.

Because when push came to shove, Hayley was a Mikaelson now too. And she would go to the ends of the earth to protect what was hers. Even if she had to protect Clara from her own family. She walked past all of the siblings to let them catch up amongst themselves and headed upstairs to see to the smallest Mikaelson who was sleeping peacefully in her crib.

“Don’t worry, angel. I won’t let the big bad wolf in here.” She smiled at her baby as she touched Clara’s cheek gently before letting the little girl sleep.
