Introduction
Welcome to the Pornathon!
Before we go any farther, I'd like to take a moment to address the name of the community. There have been battles raged in fandom over the use of the word "porn" vs. "erotica". These battles will, I'm sure, rage on for years to come, but not in this community. We chose to use the word porn because we personally don't feel like there should be such a to-do over its use. Academic debate over the use of the words porn or erotica should be left at the door, and each member is encouraged to refer to his or her work in whatever manner he or she chooses. The official party line is that stories posted here are just as significant and full of merit as any in fandom, and the use of the word porn is not meant in a derogatory or vulgar manner.
Also? Eroticaathon just doesn't have the same ring to it.
That said, there aren't many rules to this Pornathon, but the rules we do have, we take very seriously. Please read through the following post and make sure you understand the rules and procedures before participating.
What is a Pornathon?
Almost everyone has heard of a Ficathon. (For those who haven't, here's the down and dirty definition. A group of readers and writers submit story requests. Authors choose which challenges they wish to address. Stories are posted, readers read and comment, and a fun time is had by all.) The Fandom Pornathon follows the same pattern with one minor twist—all stories posted to the community must be hard R to NC-17. That is, they must contain adult content.
How Does it Work?
It's simple enough. A post will go up in the main community asking for pairing requests--pairings for any fandom you like. Het, slash, and femmeslash are all encouraged. You may request a threesome (or moresome) pairing. Another post will go up asking for situational prompts or challenges. Anyone who wants to participate may reply to either or both posts requesting up to three pairings and up to five prompts. The requests will be screened. After a week, the posts will be updated with a list of the requests pairings and prompts. Writers and artists may then scan the lists and see if inspiration strikes.
Please note! Writers and artists do not have to use the prompts list. The prompts are merely there in order to spark creativity or offer a unique challenge. Each individual writer/artist may decide to use or not use the prompts list. They may decide to use a prompt for one story but fly solo with another. It is all up to the individual. The only requirement is that you use the pairings list. (And if you can't find a pairing that you like…request one!)
Once the pairing and prompt lists are up, writers and artists may browse through the requests. If they see a pairing or two (or three, or five…) that interests them, they may then reply to the posts indicating their interest in writing a story/drawing a picture. This is non-binding! If you indicate an interest in two pairings and find you only have time to write one story, that's all right. We will be keeping a tally letting people know which pairings haven't been "tagged" so authors with some extra time on their hands can go in and write stories for the pairings that aren't getting any love. Commenting with an interest in writing for a pairing does not mean you are required to write that story—though, of course, we do encourage you to write, write, write. The more stories, the merrier!
When you've decided on a pairing/prompt, you may begin writing. As stated earlier, all stories should be hard R to NC-17. This is a pornathon, after all. You're asked to write at least 500 words; however, there is no upper limit. You may write as much as you want. When finished, we ask that you find a beta—a post will go up where people can offer their services. This is, however, not a requirement.
After your story has been finished, polished, and betated, you may then post it to the community using the header and warnings outlined in another post. All community members are strongly encouraged to read and comment on the story. No flames please, though constructive comments are welcome. The pornathon will run for one month, ending on midnight Sunday, August 31st. All stories should be posted by that time.
Once all stories have been posted, MizzMarvel and I will go through the pairing list again. Any pairings that were not written for will receive their own "Give Them Love" post where everyone is encouraged to comment with dirty drabbles. That way, no one is ignored. At this time, authors and artists may get their own little prize for participating…but the details are still a secret.
What are the Rules?
1) You may post your stories in your own journals/on other communities at any time. We only ask that you mention the Pornathon in your author's notes.
2) You may tell other people about it. If you do not have an insanejournal and do not wish to create one, you may e-mail MizzMarvel or Khirsah and ask us to post for you, or ask one of your fellow writers to post your story.
3) You may provide a link to the story rather than posting it on the community so long as the headers and warning are posted.
4) All stories must contain adult content.
5) All stories must be at least 500 words. There is no upper limit.
6) You may write darkfic or noncon; however, you must use all applicable warnings.
7) You may write about teenaged protagonists; however, teenagers must be of reasonable age (please use your judgment for what constitutes reasonable age) and all sexual contact must be consensual. (In other words—Batman and Robin can get it on, but only if Robin is old enough to make a mature, reasoned choice.) You must use all applicable warnings for any fic about teenaged protagonists.
If you have any questions, ask them here. These rules are not in place to spoil anyone's fun. On the contrary, the rules and warnings are in place to make sure that no one accidentally reads something they may find upsetting or disturbing.
