The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Peter/Caspian, Back in the real world.: Welcome... (1/2)
Gah. Sorry for fucking up... again. DX I suck.
Full title: Welcome to England
Of all the people — the humans, at least — that Peter had expected to see from Narnia again, Caspian was the last.
And yet there he was, soaked from the rain and looking more lost than Peter had seen anyone look before. He stared for a long moment before he could accept it, waiting for the face to morph into a less familiar one, for it to all be a mistake, but he remained the same.
His first instinct was not to help him. For all the fear on his face, Peter was sure Caspian would get along on his own, eventually, and that they could not possibly have been meant to cross paths again; it would be better for them both, he imagined, if he did not interfere.
But if they weren't meant to meet again, why had Caspian appeared there, on that street, the one they walked down every day? Why then, the one time Peter had had to go back to pick up something he had dropped?
Caspian hardly looked surprised to see him; he just seemed relieved, like the presence of one of the kings and queens would mean he would automatically be okay. He didn't protest when Peter put a hand on his arm and led him away from the street, into a small shop and to its back.
"Where are the others?"
"On the train already, I imagine," Peter answered, and pushed open the door to the lavatory, locking it when they were both in and turning to the young king. "What are you doing here?"
"My reign is over." At Peter's confused look, he said, "I am old. I wanted to be with the kinds and queens who helped me when I needed it most before I died."
Peter looked Caspian up and down; he didn't appear a day older than he had been when they'd parted ways. "You're young again, like us."
Caspian smiled. "That's a compliment I can't take, my king."
Peter smiled back. "So you came just to be with us? Like this is Heaven?"
Caspian's face fell suddenly. "Or so I thought. I have missed Queen Susan, but this world does not seem as kind as Narnia, even when it was at war."
"It takes some getting used to," Peter admitted, "but England's not terrible."
