Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, Neuro/Yako, amusement park
Bugs couldn’t scare her; Yako discovered on a trip with Kanae that rides didn’t do much for her anymore either, leaving her at best a little breathless and amused. Popcorn and hot dogs were better, filling her stomach with nutrition less butter and salt and unidentified meat; she licked her fingers, ignored Kanae’s amused exasperation, and laughed out loud at a ride with an entrance leading into a giant plastic toucan’s beak.
“What,” Kanae asked pointedly, “is so funny?” Yako just shook her head and stuffed her mouth full again. Neuro hadn’t showed up to pinch the amusement park tickets from her grip, so hopefully distraction aside—an inordinate amount of things reminded her of him recently—she would have a demon-free—
Oops. As thought the thought had summoned him, a familiar head with a familiar razor-edged grin turned her way through the crowd, angular body in a familiar blue suit turning to begin cutting through fair goers towards her in a thankfully metaphorical matter.
Shifting the popcorn bag under her arm, she thoughtfully offered Kanae her soda. Her friend rolled her eyes but accepted it, and then Yako’s roll of tickets. “I’d better go.” She explained through a mouthful. “I see someone I know.”
“A mystery?” She asked him when she met him halfway, swallowing before she talked.
“No,” he said cheerily, making her suppress a shudder of habitual terror, “I am merely observing you intriguing humans, Yako, in yet another natural environment.”
She almost started to ask how he’d gotten in without a ticket, and then remembered herself. She’d almost gotten over that, it must have been the relative normality of the day so far.
“Oh.” She said. “Okay.” Sound snagged his attention; shrieks as a roller coaster went plummeting down. He observed it shooting along the rails with an expression of bright interest for several long moments and then visibly lost interest, tilting his head to take in something else. He wandered off through the crowd and Yako briefly considered bolting, then sighed and trailed after him.
“So this, too, is a human ritual?” He asked when she caught up, and the couple in the patch of scuffed grass between a tent and wooden wall yelped and hastily began extricating themselves from each other’s clothing. Yako squeezed her eyes shut, took a step back, and stuffed popcorn in her mouth to save her from having to answer.
"Yako..." His voice trailed into dangerously inquisitive and when she opened her eyes he'd come closer and was reaching for her. The utterly unceremonious way he stuck his hand down her skirt made her choke on popcorn and drop the bag even as the other one slipped deftly under her shirt.
"Neuro!" She grabbed his wrist awkwardly, butter smeared fingers slipping on his glove even as human fingers splayed into long edged tendrils of demon flesh and he grinned, all sharp teeth and amusement.
"What an amusing game." He said, utterly unperturbed by her impending hysteria. The long not-quite-fingers flexed and snagged on her panties, and she squirmed backwards. Another slid along the thin skin high on the inside of her thigh, and she sucked in a breath and hoped he didn't draw blood.
Abruptly his head jerked around and his eyes lit up, strange sparks dancing down over his hair. A puzzle! Yako heaved a sigh of relief, and then squeaked as he dragged her towards open space with his grip in her skirt, knuckles reshaping into humanity and curling in against her. She managed to snag one of the poles, making him turn on her with an expression of mild irritation. "Don't pull me around by--"
He'd let go of her when he turned and as an expression of mildly sadistic curiosity spread over his face, Yako realized that quite possibly, forbidding Neuro to do something was asking for trouble and scrambled towards the crowd.
