He had bowed with everyone else, his wife's scream of rage still echoing between the high walls of the Necropolis. And he had felt the gazes of other soldiers. Disgust at his failure? Pity for his future? No. The necromonger way dictated that he at least try.

A memory creeped up on him. His home planet's fall and his first instruction into the Necromonger way. "One pain can lessen another." His neck muscles spasmed.

The Elemental walked past him. She came to a stop before Riddick's throne and they talked in low whispers. Vaako pointed at two Privates, then at the dead girl but before the two men reached her, Riddick got up. "Leave her!", he yelled.

"Lord Marshal, what do you want us to do with her?", Vaako asked.

"I said leave her."

The Privates withdrew. Vaako didn't dare to move. The Elemental said something to Riddick. He nodded. "Bring her back to earth. I want her buried."

"Yes, Lord Marshal."

Later Vaako had been ordered to dig the grave. Riddick had stood motionless beside the girl and in his eyes Vaako had seen something he hadn't seen for years: grief. Vaako wondered if he was still capable of this emotion. Would he look as agitated if Dame Vaako would lie dead before him?

He hadn't seen her since. Had Riddick killed her?

"Bring me to my quarters, Vaako."

The rooms were already rid of the old Lord Marshal's possesions. The only thing that reminded of him was his face stamped into a new suit of armour that hung in the bedroom.

A blade was pushed against his throat.

"What should I do with you? You are a traitor. So is your wife. She is your wife, isn't she? Wonder what good that would do. Your people are so bloodless that I don't see the point."

"The purification process does not affect sexual prowess."

Riddick snorted. "Hard to believe."

"My wife would gladly share your bed if you wish it, Lord Marshal." As soon as he said it, Vaako knew that it was true. She would seize the oppurtunity and leave him behind. Maybe she had already offered herself to him. Riddick seemed to guess his thought patterns.

"You think I want a snake in my bed?" His other hand suddenly rested on Vaako's neck. "What else are you still capable of? I can smell your blood." Vaako tried to ignore the small trickle that run down his neck. "Pain to a certain extent. Warmth? Touch?"

"Yes, Lord Marshal."

"Stop calling me that."

"I would prefer to get killed by the Lord Marshal, not by some wormy criminal", Vaako countered.

Riddick laughed. "So the purification fucks with your self-preservation! Or is that just a wish to see the Underverse before your "due time"?"

"Perhaps a wish to end the conversation."

"You are right, Vaako. Small talk bores me, too." Riddick rammed his fist into Vakko's side. Vaako rolled with the punch. The knife had left his neck leaving a searing trail. But the pain was numbed after only a few seconds. Riddick pointed his hand into Vaako's direction and curled two fingers as if to say "try it". He threw the knife away.

Vaako knew that he would loose and that Riddick was playing with him. It was some sort of test. But he couldn't say if he had failed or passed when Riddick pushed him to the ground and wrenched his arm behind his back.

"Maybe I will let you live another day." He punctuated his words by pushing Vaako's arm further upwards.

"I surrender", Vaako ground out. If Riddick wanted to humiliate him, it only showed that he didn't have the faintest grasp of the Necromonger way. Humiliation came with an audience and they were alone.

"Yes. Your wife will submit until she thinks she can turn the tables but you, Vaako, you are obedient. It's in your nature."

He didn't know what to say, how to react.

"Fitting, isn't it? I bet you never questioned your Lord Marshal until she started whispering in you ear."

"He was weak."

"I will not kill her. Ban her maybe."

"She is a true Necromonger. You could learn a lot from here. More than I can teach you", Vaako admitted.

Vaako's face was ground into the floor. His twisted arm hurt, the pain radiating to his shoulder and neck. Riddick knelt behind him, both legs next to Vaako's torso, not quite sitting on his legs. And it must have been the adrenaline of the fight that let Riddick react like he did.

"Will you submit to me?" Riddick spoke close to Vaako's ear. The was leaning forward, bringing his crotch into contact with Vaako's ass. Vaako felt Riddick's hard-on. He stilled, holding his breath. It had been a long time since he was forced to-

His arm was realeased and the pain intensified when he slowly brough his hand to the floor.

"Don't move." The knife cut through his clothes, then Riddick used his hands to tear his pants down. He heard a zipper being opened.

"Let's hope you didn't miss your last purification", Riddick said and spat. The spit didn't land on Vaako so he assumed Riddick must have spit in his hand.

"Wait." Riddick's hand closed around the back of his neck.

"Repeat that. Make it good. Come one. Beg me."

"There is lubricant in the bedroom drawer. I will not move away."

A laugh. "How do you know it's there? Your old Lord Marshal bend you over, too?"

"No. He preferred..." Fingers closed briefly around his throat. Vaako stared at the floor and his own hand.

Riddick got up and moved soundlessly. Vaako waited.

"Come here. Crawl."

Vaako got to his feet. Riddick sat on the bed and watched him.

"I'd be disappointed if you had followed that order", he said. He grabbed Vaako by the back of the neck and pulled him down, then rolled them over so Riddick was on top again. He stared at Vaako and Vaako stared back. Riddick's eyes glinted.

"I think I will enjoy my time here."
