Transformers (G1), Wheeljack/Perceptor, simple was best, but unbearably complex was a lot more fun.
"I swear I don't know how you get any work done," Perceptor scolded, but even he was winding down after several minutes in Wheeljack's lap. The state of the engineer's laboratory was a thoughtful disaster, everything organized according to an obscure pattern that Perceptor thought he was beginning to understand more and more the longer he spent in it; of course, the fact that Wheeljack's nimble fingers were striking sparks under his plating was probably addling his processors on that subject.
"Oh, look what you made me do," Perceptor complained, setting his tools down to stare in dismay at his creation.
Wheeljack hummed inquiringly and craned his head to see. "Perce, it's beautiful! What's wrong?"
Irritated, Perceptor let Wheeljack clasp his hands. "It's got too many moving parts, and - and -" The scientists shivered together, hot-cold electric tingles tangling their auras as the little gyro-inducer spun to life. "And it's stupidly complex," Perceptor finished with a shaky sigh.
Wheeljack chuckled. "Fun, though." He tweaked a wire and Perceptor keened high and wordless. The inducer's light shivered over them like sunlight cast on water.
