Soul Eater, Soul/Maka, ginormous (is not a word) 1/2
Their quiet, girl’s only luncheons at one of Death City’s frillier cafes were always an excellent place to let out their frustrations on their male partners. And, usually, it was Maka who led the way, listing out Soul’s latest offences in between angry bites of her sandwich. In retrospect, it should have been obvious that her sudden lack of input would not have gone unnoticed.
The cheerful, companionable silence lasted almost ten minutes before Liz finally snapped.
“All right, I’ll bite.”
Maka blinked at Liz’s irritated growl, glancing up over the rim of her soda at the older girl, only to blink again as she noticed the stares. Shifting uncomfortably in her seat at the realization that she’d somehow become the center of her friends’ undivided attention without even meaning to, Maka attempted a nervous smile.
“What? Do I have something on my face?”
Seated to Liz’s right, Tsubaki pursed her lips shyly as if hesitating to say anything lest she risk making offensive. The Thompson sisters merely exchanged a glance before shooting straight to the core of the problem.
“You,” Patty thrust a finger towards the meister, pouting curiously. “You’re acting all smiley and shit!”
“And the last couple get togethers we had, you were just about ready to bite Soul’s head off.” Liz smacked her hand on the table for emphasis.
“I wasn’t that bad!” Maka protested automatically even, as the sisters nodded together with a plainly audible ‘yes you were’. The meister looked to Tsubaki for support, continuing softly at the other girl’s encouraging nod. “We just... worked a few things out recently, that’s all.”
“Bullshit!” Liz gave another smack to the table. “Last week you said Soul was a perverted jackass and if you caught him and Blaire screwing around on the kitchen table one more time you were going to cut off his dick and feed it too him.”
Maka had the decency to blush.
“Well, it looked really bad! It wasn’t really my fault that I took it the wrong way!” She defended quickly before continuing in a softer mumble. ”...though, I might have taken it too far a little with the castration bit and all...”
“Ha!! Just admit it already!” Patty cackled inanely. “You guys finally broke down and did the horizontal monkey dance!!”
“What?!?” Mortified, but noticeably not denying the accusation, Maka stuttered. Her blush deepening as choked on her drink, sinking low in her seat.
Liz took one good hard look at the meister’s face before joining in with her sister’s raucous laughter.
“Not that we aren’t happy for you, if you two did get together,” Tsubaki hurriedly said trying to be a touch more diplomatic. “We just wanted you to know that you can always share with us.”
“Yeah,” Liz managed to look sly despite her laughter. “You can ‘share with us’ whether he was any good or not.”
If she hadn’t known it would be futile Maka might have attempted an escape, but, as things were she’d rather avoid the whole ‘let’s tackle Maka down and tickle her til she spills everything’ method Liz and Patty had employed last time they’d thought she was holding out on juicy gossip. As things were, she settled for a last ditch attempt to proclaim some sort of innocence in hopes the sisters would drop it.
“Really,” she insisted. “You’re just jumping to random conclusions about-”
“Come on, it’s not like I’m the only one who’s curious.” Liz waved off Tsubaki’s further protests with a flick of the wrist before fixing her attention on Maka. She wheedled. “Just a hint? We won’t bug you again~”
“Fine. If that’s what it takes for you guys to leave it alone.” The moment Maka’s patience snapped way made audible as she set her glass down with a firm ‘clack’ down on the tabletop.
