Entry tags:! log/narrative, calaca, the hero's hand

CHARACTERS: Tavo Guerrero & Peter Kreuger.
DATE & TIME: June 13th, midafternoon.
LOCATION: Parking garage, DTLA.
RATING: A swear.
SUMMARY: Tavo sets up some bait and plays with his catch.

Frost had spread over Peter Kreugers suit as he stalked angrily through the floors of the parking garage. His car had not been in the spot that he had left it earlier that morning and it was hard to contain his anger as he heard his car chirp in response on a floor above as he pressed a button on his key fob.

Logically, he should be focused on exactly how his car had moved itself but his focus was singularly on finding his car since it appeared to be in the same garage he left it in.

Another press of a button and a sigh of aggravation followed as it was still a floor above him. Mist exhaled through his mouth as he marched up the sloped incline leading to the open air of the top floor.

He blinked rapidly against the blinding sun above and once again rose his car fob over his head. His head whipped around as he heard his car chirp in response to his press of a button and saw his car parked sideways, taking up two spaces.

“Hey!” Peter barked, leaving bursts of frost in his wake as he stomped angrily towards a figure on his car hood. “Get the fuck off my car!”

Tavo held up a hand in shouting man's direction and put up a finger, not looking up from his phone as the other approached. “I’ll be with you in a moment, I’m booking an Airbnb.”

The problem of waiting for his bait to snag his target was the waiting part. Almost an hour and a half had passed after Tavo had moved Peter’s car to the top floor of the parking garage. Twenty minutes in and he unzipped the top half of his superhero suit to enjoy the sun against his skin. Forty minutes in and he was using his telekinesis to rifle through the mans glovebox. And fifteen minutes after the first chirp of the alarm from the car underneath him, Tavo was scrolling through Airbnb for a place to stay.

For whatever reason, Peter listened. Eyebrows raised and mouth agape as he took in the masked hero reclined against his car hood. A couple of seconds later, he scoffed and took angry steps forward with a muttered ‘whatever’ under his breath as he unlocked his car with his remote key.

Tavo tsked and shook his head. “What’s the rush, Mr. Kreuger?” The man stopped in place as the hero spoke and squared his shoulders. “You have nowhere to be after getting some work in on a weekend. You made me wait, the least you can do is return the favor.“

“I’m sorry, I didn’t know we had an appointment. Why don’t you call my assistant next time?” The cheer in the mans voice laced with sarcasm.

“And make her do more work on what should be her days off? I would never.” Tavo took a quick screenshot to send off and stowed away his phone soon after. He slid off the car hood and took a couple of steps towards the man with a smile set on his face but did not speak as he regarded the man.

The silence between them held for a couple of moments before Peter swallowed, uncomfortable with the amount of attention the hero was paying to him. Not sizing him up but watching him with cool detachment.

Peter shifted under his gaze and Tavo smiled before finally speaking. “What do you know of the Hand?”

At the mention of the Hand, Peter’s uncomfortable expression cleared from his face and in its place was a mask of carefully curated neutrality. “No more than most.” Tone friendly, casual as if Tavo asked him about the weather. “Read that ad that they put in the paper. A bit up their own asses but if they say what they do with keeping heroes relevant t—”

Tavo chuckled and rolled his eyes. “Don’t play dumb, it’s not a good look for you.”

Peter’s cheeks burned, ice spreading under his shoes, he always hated being interrupted. “It’s a good thing I know what is.” Peter Kreuger was both quick in wit and in boost. Frost formed over his suit as he lurched forward to Tavo, ice spread along the ground as he closed the distance in a blink of an eye before being rebuffed telekinetically and skidding backwards.

Peter gasped, arms windmilling to catch him before falling to the ground due to the amount of force Tavo put behind his shove.

“Aw.” Tavo’s hand reached out as Peter’s briefcase came zipping towards him from the ground where Peter lost a hold of it. “Here I am trying to have a nice conversation with you and you, what? Try to freeze me?”

Peter scowled and slammed his hand down on the ground. Icicles jumped out from the parking garage floor and shot towards Tavo who sidestepped in mid air and came to stand on the hood of the man's car.

Peter pushed himself off the ground and ran forward, getting closer this time before an invisible force yanked him forward faster and inertia caused him to collide with the drivers side of his car.

Tavo grimaced in sympathy as he heard the air leave the man's lungs. “I take it you know more about the Hand then you claim.” He remarked casually, stepping off to the opposite side of Peter to keep the car between them. Tavo was no fool, he did not want to find out what a power like Peters could do to living matter.

“Yeah.” Peter nodded, fixing Tavo with a glare over the top of his car. “We set them up, you bag them. You’re welcome, Calaca.”

Tavo smiled, retort cut short as the man inhaled deeply and exhaled icy mist towards Tavo. At the same time a pillar of ice shot from the cars side towards him and Tavo automatically shot himself backwards. Telekinesis catching the pillar just in time to shatter it and mist thankfully falling short. The shards of ice settled, the sound of them falling to the ground drowned out as a door slammed and the cars engine roared to life.

Peter waved at Tavo as he slammed the car in reverse only for Tavo to wave back with an open hand that he quickly closed into a fist.

It wasn’t that the tires all popped at once, it was that all four wheel wells crumpled like fresh clay under Tavo’s telekinesis. A horrible grinding noise soon followed as Peter still tried to make his getaway before Tavo made a quick pulling motion with his hand.

The car crashed to the ground as he ripped what remained of the tires clean off its body.

Peter exhaled shakily and looked over to Tavo, unsure on how he would be getting out of this one before releasing his grip on his steering wheel and leaning back into the driver's seat in defeat.

Tavo crouched to peer into the car and met Peter's gaze. “You done?” He asked with a friendly smile. Peter nodded in silence, ice spreading and frost covering the interior of the car as Peter caught his breath at the casual display of power from PI’s newly ranked hero.

“Good.” Tavo stood from his crouch and tapped against the hood of the car. “Buckle up and please keep your arms in the moving vehicle at all times!” Without hesitation Tavo rose into the sky, ruined wheels orbiting around him and car holding a sullen Hand member cruising right behind him.
