"It's hard to get used to," Jess sympathized, referring to the cold. "I'm from down south, but I moved up north for school and work, and it was rough the first few winters. You tend to toughen up a bit, though." Though really, it was only for a few more months. Once they got past March, it would likely start warming up fairly quickly, anyway. "You probably don't have a lot of winter wear, right?" she asked, half-knowing the answer. The things one wore in the south for winter differed greatly from the things one wore up north.
"Oh no, I'm all right, thank you," she said. Just because she didn't see anything all that shocking about him drinking so early didn't mean she was going to start, herself. She wasn't a big drinker at any rate, even at evening functions - she was more used to getting up early, working hard all day, frequently until late at night, and collapsing into bed at the end of the day to do it all over again.
