Nate would probably be surprised at who in Experiment B might be hiding a past murder. Audrey wasn't necessarily hiding, per se, but she wasn't volunteering the information, either. Didn't want to scare anyone off too soon. Though there was probably an equal chance that she'd get more friends sharing than she would otherwise. For her, everything was negotiable. Stick to an overarching plan, but keep the details flexible. It'd saved her arse more than once.
It didn't take an idiot to see he was hiding something, but she wasn't going to press right away. He looked a little squirrely and she wasn't ready to chase him off. Instead, she looked sympathetic. "I know all about shitty lives," she commiserated. Which, given her childhood, was actually true. "Grew up dirt poor. But the good news is you don't have to get stuck with the hand you're dealt, not if you know what you want." She sounded like a damn greeting card. Her break had been a lucky one, more coincidence than anything else, but she didn't doubt that she'd have managed even without her benefactor.
"Me?" she echoed, shrugging casually. "I got bored. This seemed like it'd be an interesting experience, so I went for it." It was even mostly true - she'd discussed doing it with William. It's just that circumstances had shifted it from an amusing idea to a fortuitous escape opportunity. "What did you do before this?"
