I am getting so hot
Who: Rupert and Open
Where: The hallway/open area outside his room, third floor
When: At around 11am
It had started when Rupert was still asleep. Half-consciously, he had pushed his bedspread back and sprawled himself on the bed, sweating profusely. He was still keen on sleeping, however, even if he had to blow on his own face. Eventually, Rupert gave up on his pajamas altogether, grumbling as he removed his clothing and threw it on the floor around his bed. Then it was his socks, and Rupert laid on his back wearing nothing but his underwear - which was very unlike him in any occasion, let alone in a strange place that was still not his home.
The heat wasn’t subsiding, however, and Rupert finally woke up with barely a breath in him and his hair glued onto his forehead. “I must have a fever.” He mumbled to himself as he sat on the edge of his bed, looking around as he waited for his senses to gather completely. A cold bath had always been administered to him in these occasions when he was growing up, so Rupert dragged himself to his bathroom, removed his briefs and proceeded to take a cold shower. The relief lasted only moments, however, as Rupert realized even the water felt lukewarm at best, not exactly cold as it ought to have been. This had always worked before when he had a fever, at least a little, so the fact that he couldn’t feel his temperature drop under the cold water - or even feel the water being cold in the first place - made him wonder what in blazes was actually wrong with him. Once the skin in his fingers and toes was shriveled up like a prune and no good came from it, Rupert decided to leave the shower, wrapping a towel around his hips. He still felt extremely hot, more so now due to the small difference of temperature, and so the next logical step for him was to open every window in his room and adjacent bathroom. Nothing. It was snowing buckets out there, it had to be cold and yet Rupert felt nothing but heat, uncomfortable and relentless, as if he was permanently within a fire that didn’t really burn him. He was very ill, had to be.
“Hello?” He called out, wondering if the people responsible for this experiment could hear him now. “I think I am very ill, I feel scorching hot, I think I may need medical attention.” Rupert waited for a little while, hoping for some sign of acknowledgement from someone who might be listening, but nothing happened. Rupert decided to create a draft of sorts by opening the door to his room, but that did not help either. Popping his head outside his room, Rupert wondered briefly if anybody else felt like this. His hands were slippery and he was no longer sure if he was wet from the shower or sweat. What if he was about to spontaneously combust? There were known cases of that, albeit unexplained in cause; however, something about feeling this heat within him had to be the start of something like that.
When the sweat starting dripping from his forehead and stinging his eyes Rupert decided to ask for help from one of his roommates rather than some invisible group of very irresponsible responsible people. “Hello?” He called out, now fully out in the hallway. “Anybody there? I think I’m...dying?” He wasn’t sure. But this wasn’t living either, not normally. He felt like what his mother had told him her menopausal hot flushes were like, only permanently and without rest.
“Help?” He called out a little louder, holding onto his towel for dear life. Typical Rupert wouldn’t be caught dead in a public location wearing only a towel around his hips, but this wasn’t typical Rupert, this was extremely hot Rupert and societal conventions needed to be put aside right this moment. In case he was dying.
