It seemed somewhat strange to Miles that anyone would be pulled out of the experiment for medical issues so soon. If anyone had been that much of a risk, it would have made more sense to reject them, wouldn't it? Miles couldn't say for sure, considering there was no way for him to know of the scientists' criteria or what had been discussed behind closed doors. Maybe they'd made a gamble that hadn't paid off, or maybe someone had gotten hurt unbeknownst to everyone else and had to be removed. 'Medical reasons' was entirely vague.
"The number of dropouts is quite strange already. I was told that nothing much had happened." After a moment of contemplation, the smallest of smiles touched the corners of his mouth. "Unless they were also part of the experiment; a design to cause tension." It was an exciting prospect for him, to think that anything was a possibility. The year at the mansion might turn out to be far more interesting than he'd considered before arriving.
"Do you have any interest in psychology?" Miles asked. "Why did you sign up?" It was a personal question and most likely steeped in many reasons, but he didn't feel like shying away from it. If Avery didn't want to reveal the truth and was clever, he'd be able to make something up quickly.
