Wherever the house was, Miles had an inkling it was somewhere remote, and perhaps even difficult to get to. They were allowed outside, so the scientists would want to keep potential outsiders at bay. Or maybe not, if that could somehow be part of the experiment. There were many questions he knew he wouldn't get answers to until it was time for them to be revealed, and no amount of thinking and rethinking on his part could change that.
"I suppose it's not important," Miles answered at length, his tone musing. The bigger questions were just distractions. What they should have really been focusing on was the culture inside the mansion, because though they were strangers presently they wouldn't be for long. He would eventually run into Chris again, and would no doubt have to deal with other uncouth individuals like him.
Avery seemed all right, though: quiet, contemplative, polite. Miles didn't think in terms of friendship, but he predicted he'd be able to tolerate Avery just fine, and possibly come to enjoy his company. "Yes, I've already been told about the man I've replaced." After a pause, Miles glanced toward the fireplace. "It can't be random that I'm entirely unlike him in all appearances." The scientists could have had other criteria, or they might have liked that specific room for Miles. Maybe they didn't think the friendly bartender type had worked after all. It didn't matter. Miles was happy to be there whatever the reason.
