Everyone had an accent as far as Miles was concerned. Despite living in the UK for a decade, his pronunciation of most English words sounded German, though he was certain if he were ever to return to his hometown he would speak - even in his mother tongue - differently than them.
"It's a pleasure, Avery." Really, no, it wasn't, but so far he enjoyed Avery's company more than Chris', so he could give Avery a little credit. Miles was sure it had more to do with how distasteful he found Chris, but it didn't matter much.
"Are you enjoying your stay here?" That could have been a personal question should Avery choose to treat it as such, but Miles still considered the question light conversation because Avery could simply respond with a yes or no, and Miles wouldn't push for any elaboration. For the most part, Miles was feeling out Avery's comfort zone, attempting to figure out what was suitable conversation and what wasn't.
They could also sit together in silence, but Miles didn't want to resort to that right off the bat.
