Avery was lost in thought, mostly about how there were so many things in life he hadn't experienced. Even something as basic as movies that, he imagined, most of the other people here had probably seen more than once. He was leaning over a little as he read off titles, his lips moving but no sound coming out and his brow furrowed. It was something to pass the time, and in a way it felt like a library: hallowed and silent. Okay, he supposed it was a library, in its way. He should have felt ridiculous, because what was the big deal about DVDs? He didn't only because he was alone.
He hadn't heard Lily enter the room, and when she spoke, he was startled enough to twitch and inhale a sharp breath. At least he'd heard Hannah coming into the kitchen last night, because of her cane. This girl had been completely stealthy. Avery tried to collect himself, not wanting her to think he was simple; he did his best to swallow down his sudden elevated heartbeat. "I guess," he said, vaguely remembering having seen her in the billiard room the night before, too. "I can't find anything I ever saw, though."
