The morning surprise had completely thrown Avery off. Not that it took much, admittedly. To most people, being temporarily locked in a room could have been easily shrugged off, but it left Avery both restless and paranoid. After he'd spent a while pacing around the confines of his bedroom, he'd showered and dressed and then forced himself out of his room to explore some more of the house. The library was nice, and he'd spent a few moments poking around in there. He liked to read well enough, and having access to that many books could stave off boredom and provide a distraction if he needed it. He had a feeling he would if there were many events like this morning's.
Once he'd ventured downstairs, the next logical step should have been preparing himself something to eat, but he wasn't hungry at all. Avery had never been one to eat just because it was time for a meal, so he'd left the kitchen and wandered through the ground floor, peering into the food storage area, the dining room and the movie theater. He couldn't settle on anything he wanted to do, anything that might make him feel more normal, and he might have easily wandered around for hours if an idea hadn't occurred to him. He liked being outside more than just about anywhere, and even though he didn't have winter clothes to speak of, maybe he could tolerate a few minutes of it, just for some fresh air.
Avery made his way back up to his room and layered himself up as well as he could: two pairs of socks beneath his heavy walking shoes, sweatpants underneath his jeans and two long-sleeved shirts under his light jacket. He actually had a pair of gloves, even though they were driving gloves with no real warmth built into them, and he pulled those on too. Wearing gloves automatically made him feel more content, because he wouldn't have to pull his sleeves down over his hands to open doors and reach for light switches. He made sure he had his room key in his pocket and left again, heading downstairs and outside.
It only made sense that it would be cold out, given the sheer amount of snow on the ground, but somehow Avery wasn't prepared for the feel of the wind biting into the skin of his face and turning his ears red. He tromped through the deep snow, noticing how it clung to the trees and to the roof of the mansion. It was such a novelty for him that it temporarily took his mind off of how cold he felt. He was shivering lightly by the time he'd been outside for a few minutes, and when he saw a building up ahead, he didn't hesitate to duck into it. He let his eyes adjust to the indoor lighting before venturing forward, taking in the bikes, go-karts, snowmobiles and the other items. He wasn't sure he'd ever seen this much furniture and equipment in one place. He took a few more steps forward and then froze, realizing that he wasn't alone as he caught sight of somebody just ahead.
