Whatever mon cher meant, it seemed friendly. He couldn't figure out the accent, but it made him wonder if they were even in America anymore. Wouldn't that be weird, if his first time out of Nevada was to another country and he didn't even know it? Nate found the prospect exciting, even if he might never go beyond the compound grounds. There was no guarantee the scientists would tell them where they were after the experiment was over either, since apparently scientists were very secretive about stuff. At the moment, Nate could deal with that. He'd just have to travel on his own, with all the money he was going to make that year.
"Hi," Nate said, not offering his name at first even though Christian had graciously provided everyone else's. Part of him was afraid someone would recognize it, whether from his history or his more current work in pornography, but then again he guessed they'd know his face too if that were the case, especially from the latter. And so what? If anyone recognized him, he'd have to accept that and move on.
Since it was the first time he'd emerged from his room, the rest of the floor was an intriguing sight. He paused in the common area and looked away from Christian and the food, instead surveying the comfortable-looking couches, the fireplace, and the rich colors. Everything was so fancy. It made him feel like a VIP of some kind, not who he actually was, and it occurred to him that he didn't have to be Nathan Hill there if he didn't want to, providing no one knew who he was.
Nate only snapped out of his thoughts when Osten's voice hit his ears. He looked over toward the man, immediately taking in his height and musculature. There was no doubt about it, he was an intimidating sight, even with the funny accent. "I'm Nate," he answered. "Which one are you? Jerrica?" It was the only name Nate could remember (oddly enough, since it was one of the weirder ones), but it sounded like a girl's name. Nate didn't have a death wish, but guys like Osten were the kind he was used to dealing with, and with them you didn't get respect acting meek.
