Though he wouldn't admit it to anyone, Fred had been relieved that Tonks had chosen to postpone their drink-date-thing. If it had been up to him, it might've been postponed a little longer, at least long enough for him to make up his mind about what he wanted out of the situation. On the one hand, Tonks was cool; if he was going to wake up accidentally married to anyone, Tonks was a good choice. On the other hand, though both of them were cool, they lacked the chemistry that would make their relationship truly special. Then again, and because Tonks was involved, Fred was sure he could be allowed a third hand, maybe the chemistry would develop in time, if they looked for it or worked at it or whatever it was people in relationships did when they were out of sync. There was a fourth hand somewhere - maybe it was a foot - on which there was Teddy, whose opinion had to matter to his mother even if she didn't remember giving birth to him. And though he could be cool too when he wanted to be, Teddy was more than merely cross about the whole thing. One could safely say that he was losing his shit over it. While Fred was normally the sort of bloke who liked eliciting a reaction, positive or negative, this wasn't his idea of fun. When he thought about Teddy, the choice was clear. And yet, he hesitated.
When he finally showed up at the pub, it didn't take long to spot Tonks in the sparse crowd -- just find the head of bright red and then pink hair that seemed to flash a signal at him as soon as he opened the door.
"Been waiting long?" he asked, eyeing the half-full pint between them. Unsure what else he was supposed to do or say - if this were a real marriage, he'd probably kiss her at this point, but it wasn't and it would've been weird, so instead, he said, "I'll be right back," and disappeared long enough to get a pint of his own, taking a few deep swallows as he weaved his way back.
When finally he took his seat across from Tonks, Fred had found his winning smile and flashed it at her - his wife. Weird. So weird. And to think how close he'd come to cheating on her not two days ago while she was off with his brother. "Have fun on your camping trip?"
