The flooding hadn’t caused too much damage to the shop. For the most part, the finished brooms had been hovering high enough to escape any rising water, while the unfinished models were mounted on shelves in the back. It was the materials which had caught the worst of it. Freddie had spent the morning combing through his pile of elm, discarding any pieces which seemed beyond repair and placing drying charms on the others. Now he was on to the bundles of sticks which made up the broom tails, which was a whole new kettle of fish altogether.
He was sat cross-legged on top of the counter, picking up one skinny twig at a time and examining it for breaks and water damage. Occasionally he’d pull his wand from behind his ear and attempt to fix one, but for the most part they got discarded into the already overflowing bin on the floor. Which was a bit of a bummer. He’d have to speak to the wood cutters.
The bell rang, signalling the front door opening. “One second,” Freddie hesitated, his wand poised over the twig he was holding as he watched the wood knit itself back together. Once it was finished, the young Broomstick maker placed it carefully down on the counter beside him before finally grinning up at the new arrival. “Alright?”
