Daphne was, frankly, grateful that classes had resumed. Anything that returned them to some sense of normalcy was fine by her. Anything that took her mind off everything that had happened recently. The death of a fellow student hadn't affected her nearly as much as it should have- she had hardly known Lavender, despite being in the same year, and the girl shouldn't have been breaking the rules in the first place- but she couldn't escape the feeling that something worse was lurking just ahead. Daphne had never been the optimist- she had always been far too practical for that- but she had been doing her best to not dwell on the many ways that their lives could get worse. But that was growing exceedingly difficult. True to form though, Daphne hadn't complained about any of it. When they had been confined to their dorms, she had openly agreed with the administration, and she hadn't said anything when her things were searched. Even when the quarantine had first started, she had understood the reason behind it and tried to find the silver lining. But it was growing harder to stay calm when things weren't improving.
But now they had classes again, and she was thankful for the distraction. Now, she could bury her nose in her books and focus on her upcoming NEWTs and do her best not to think about any of it. Currently her focus was on arithmancy, and numbers were infinitely more reassuring than her thoughts had been recently. There were no fears or emotions or impending danger in numbers. They were just logical and comforting in their predictability.
