What: A meeting of old friends somethings
Where: The couselling office
When: Wednesday afternoon, a couple of hours after this.
Status/Rating: Complete/Low
Roth hadn't even glanced at the name for his next appointment. To some extent, all the fresh young faces with dazed expressions were all blending together somewhat. They were frightened or angry or worried or some other emotion, most of which made Roth's head spin a little. He just asked questions that he thought sounded therapist-y, and it usually turned out just fine. Sometimes better than fine.
He took his usual seat, facing the door, waiting for his next appointment, glancing over the journals to see if there was anything interesting going on.
"Well, well, Mulciber. It's been ages, hasn't it?"
Roth's eyes widened when he saw Lucius Malfoy filling his doorway. He stood up slowly, arching a brow. "Mr. Malfoy. An unexpected pleasure. Won't you come in?" he said. Lucius was among the very last people he was expecting to see among those still living. "To what do I owe this happy surprise?"
Lucius walked in, standing in front of Roth. "Well, since the headmistress has so graciously offered me asylum, I thought I would take the opportunity to look up an old friend. You're looking well."
That was interesting news indeed. "Well. Huh," he said. "Perhaps just close the door, would you? And please have a seat, so that we can catch up." He wasn't so sure about the friend part, but he was willing to give the other man a little leeway to have pulled off an escape and getting asylum at Hogwarts. He was impressed.
Lucius closed the door, then settled himself in a chair as if it was a throne. "Thank you," he said, looking around. "Interesting. You’re a counselor." His tone was neutral.
Roth sat across from him and sat back in his chair. "Indeed. It's an extraordinary... opportunity. I'm sure you can see the value in such a position."
"Absolutely," Lucius nodded. "You must find it very... Rewarding." He looked levelly at the other man.
"Can I get you a drink, Lucius?" he offered. "I've got one of very few reliable supplies of liquor under this bubble. I would imagine you haven't tasted a nice single malt in some time." Roth didn't particularly want to go into any detail about his new found profession. The more people that knew what he was actually doing, the greater the risk. But of course Lucius Malfoy, like Rodolphus, could make an educated guess.
"Oh yes, please," Lucius said. "It's been a very long time."
Roth pulled out his wand and summoned two crystal tumblers and a bottle of Macallan's to the table beside him. He poured out two glasses and handed one across to Lucius. "So," he said, sitting back again. "I am very interested to hear how you managed to get asylum."
"Well," Lucius mused, taking a sip and savoring it for a long moment. "That's quite a story." He looked around significantly.
Roth noticed the way Lucius was glancing around. "I can assure you that confidentiality is of the utmost importance within these walls," he said, pointing around. "There are many enchantments protecting the students' privacy. You may speak freely."
Lucius raised an eyebrow, clearly not entirely convinced. "Well. I heard there was a very dangerous death eater hiding out in the forest. So I captured him and brought him in. Out of concern for the welfare of the students, of course."
Roth was some combination of astonished and amused. "My goodness, Lucius. How very... accommodating of you. We've only just had a little band of students run afoul of the unfortunate creature. I do hope you suffered no ill effect while apprehending him." It was clearly some sort of arrangement that he wasn't privy to. "And now... you are both safely here within the walls of Hogwarts."
Lucius nodded gravely. "With my family, as I should be. They are my ultimate concern, after all," he acknowledged. "And as you can see," he added, looking down at his immaculate appearance, "no ill effects at all."
Roth nodded slowly and took a sip of his own drink. "Indeed. A little thin, perhaps, but that's to be expected. I'm sure the Aurors trapped with us here in our little bubble were thrilled by your daring capture. The safety of the students is their only concern, after all."
"Oh of course. I'm certain they will welcome me with open arms," Lucius smirked, draining his glass. "Oh... That's quite nice." He licked a drop from his lip.
"And what part of this asylum have they asylumed you in?" he asked, nodding slightly at the compliment to his whisky. He'd missed the opportunity to speak frankly with someone. It was refreshing. He knew Lucius' vices, and Lucius knew some of his own.
"I'm actually staying with my son for the time being. Somehow he's managed to get a room to himself. Quite impressive, actually. It's not fancy, but far better than my accommodations of late," Lucius said wryly.
"It sounds as though you've got the entire situation well in hand. I do hope that you won't need any further collateral to keep you in the Headmistresses good graces." He didn't think for a second that Lucius would hesitate to use Roth as something to barter with if he had to, but for now, he seemed to be in a secure position. How long that would last remained to be seen.
Lucius smiled. "You know me, Mulciber. I am extremely resourceful."
Roth pursed his lips. He didn't believe that Lucius was threatening him outright, but better safe than sorry. "That's what concerns me, actually. I do hope that, should you find yourself in a tight spot again you'll consider the advantages of loyalty to those of your old associates who are... advantageously placed," he said carefully.
Lucius' smile widened. "That goes without saying, my dear old friend." He inclined his head, appearing to study his empty glass. "I would of course suggest the same."
Roth reached for the bottle and leaned forward, offering to refill Lucius' glass. "And of course, if you feel you need to... get away from it all and enjoy some quiet time to talk about your feelings, my door is always open." His lips twitched a little. Though Roth hadn't ever enjoyed a dalliance with Lucius Malfoy, he knew the other man's reputation well enough.
Lucius held out his glass for a refill, smirking. "And what if what I enjoy is not usually so quiet?" His voice deepened and he looked directly into Roth's eyes.
He poured more of the amber liquid into Lucius' glass. "I'm sure you can imagine that silencing charms are one of my specialties. There may have been one or two students who have expressed themselves at more significant decibel levels than one would normally hear inside a school. Volume is not a problem." He understood exactly what Lucius was saying, and just to make sure they were on the same page, he arched an eyebrow. "I'm not much of a screamer, myself, however."
"Well, you've never been with me, have you?" Lucius purred confidently. He leaned forward. "You'll forgive my directness, but, as you know, I've been in Azkaban. I'm feeling rather... pent-up." His gaze traveled obviously over Roth. "I do hope we can avail ourselves of a silencing charm rather soon."
Roth was a little 'pent up' himself in that regard, though he was able to satisfy most of his more primal urges with violence. Ever since he'd tossed off poor repressed Stephen, though, a craving for something sexual had been building up. "Maybe a visit after office hours is more to your liking, then."
"I would venture to say that is exactly what I need," Lucius agreed, eyes half lidded. "And the sooner the better. Things pent up too long tend to explode."
"Later tonight, then?" he asked. "As an employee of this school, I feel obligated to do my part to prevent any unnecessary explosions. For the common good." He lifted his glass in toast to the other man, already anticipating the evening ahead.
"I look forward to it. And may I say your selfless devotion to the protection of Hogwarts is commendable." Lucius raised his glass as well, then took a deep drink.
Roth laughed aloud at that, and took another sip. "I live to serve," he purred, putting his glass aside and rising. "Until tonight then."
Lucius stood as well. He sketched a small bow and said, "Until tonight." Then he turned and exited the room with one more glance over his shoulder at Roth.
