Daphne lived by one cardinal rule. Be early or on time for everything, however, with parents such as her own, sometimes that became impossible. Like today. Her first proper meeting with her future husband and she was running fifteen minutes late. Because her mother had to make sure her own hair was curled just properly and her make up was done just right. Because that mattered. She was just accompanying Daphne to make sure she didn't run screaming in the opposite direction. Daphne wasn't going to do that though, she knew what was expected of her, whether she liked it or not.
She'd always known she would be married off to someone else. But she never thought it would be so soon, and she never knew she would only find out about it after the Daily Prophet had already made the announcement. Her Father had come into her room with the paper, showing it to her, frowning and both apologizing and congratulating her. She hadn't had time to really process what was happening yet, though she did have some strong feelings about the whole situation.
Honestly, Daphne just wanted to actually get along with Stephen. They had gone to school together for seven years, had gone to countless parties, and yet, she couldn't remember having an actual conversation with him. Ever. And now she was walking out of a lift and there he was, and at least he wasn't horrible on the eyes. She might have turned around and walked away then, no matter what Pansy might have said about his blood and breeding.
Daphne gave a nervous smile as she watched him stand. Why was she nervous? She didn't want to be nervous. She wanted to be calm and collected and make an amazing first impression. Instead she was going to be awkward and awful. "Thank you, Stephen. You look quite handsome yourself."
