Three years after an asteroid struck Earth and two years after the end of the Long Winter it caused, 90% of humanity is dead. A new world struggles to rise from the ashes of the old, though chaos and anarchy still reign. Bandits, slavers, and cannibals prey on the unwary or those that stray too close to the ruins of the big cities by themselves. There are spots of light in the darkness, however, as other groups of people attempt to live peaceable lives and rebuild society.

After Impact is a brand new post apocalyptic RPG dealing with the struggle to create a new life three years after an asteroid strike wiped out civilization and most of humanity. We are currently in our second game week and the characters have just escaped hot water leaving a very different Kansas City from the one they remember.

It started, as so many things in Gotham do, with a bang. Shortly after the eclipse an explosion rang out in Arkham Asylum's west wing, kicking up dust and setting free more than a few madmen. When the smoke cleared a single woman in a jester's outfit stood upon the fallen debris carrying a gun. She demanded one thing and one thing only: the Joker's release. With a multitude of madmen on her side the woman managed to overpower the guards and set Gotham's most feared villain free. He didn't thank her. He didn't rush into her arms or fulfill any of the romantic fantasies that had been playing in her head. Instead, he demanded the release of a man named Schiff and proceeded to turn what was left of Arkham's west wing into a blood bath.

The trio escaped but not before gaining the attention of Arkham's Head of Security, Aaron Cash. A large fearsome man, Cash had managed to bring a sense of order to the Asylum even if his methods were a little heavy handed at times. Inmates had learned to fear and respect the man because crossing him was something of a death wish. Only the Joker had ever dared to cross him and had been dragged back to his cell with broken bones. As the trio ran it appeared as if their escape would be cut short. Cash was closing in on them with an intent to kill. Just as his hook made contact with Joker's jumpsuit the Clown Prince of Crime threw out his hands and Cash vanished without a trace. It didn't take long for Joker to piece together what had happened. He may not have understood the logistics but what fun were facts? He had power and with that power he would turn Gotham into his playground.

His first order of business was to rid Gotham of all it's old, boring citizens and fill it with newer, more exciting, more interesting ones. He began to pull men and women from various fictional worlds into his own. To make sure none of his new toys could out (or that the hundreds of other super humans couldn't get in) he set up a barrier around the city, closing it off from the rest of the world.

Pax Letale: A Modern Myth Game [Aug. 18th, 2011|10:58 pm]

PAX LETALE: GODS REBORN

In Southern California, there recently opened a new luxury apartment building. Impeccably designed, impossibly convenient, ideally located, Pax Letale is the sort of residential Shangri La where Southern Californians spend all manner of favors and years trying to secure a spot. But Pax doesn't have a waiting list, nor can a place there be bought or sold. The people who find their way to Pax Letale belong there.

Every tenant of Pax is a reincarnated deity whose worshipers are by and large long dead. Once very real, these gods began to fade as science and reason dispelled the probability of their existence. Reborn as mortals, their essences remain, waiting to be awakened. Somehow, sometimes one by one, sometimes in groups or pairs, these creatures of destiny have discovered Pax, and have not been able to resist its pull.

For at Pax Letale, the awakening has begun. As these gods rediscover themselves and each other, the seemingly invisible but ubiquitous management tracks each of them quite closely, and the very building itself seems to have an agenda of its own. And as the gods made humans in their own image - or humans made them in theirs - so will the the behavior of the people of Pax turn as dark as their myths. Blood, strife, sex, petty plots, torture - even murder will wind their ways into Pax Letale.

A lovely place. A peculiar place. A dangerous place.

Available Tenants:

Enki is the Babylonian god of water, crafts, intelligence and creation. Twin of and best friend of Ereshkigal, goddess of the Underworld, he is often seen as a positive foil to his brother Enlil, utilizing his magic and cunning for the good of others; he brings aid to deities and humans alike, serving as a rare masculine nuturer in a chaotic and often oppressively patriarchal pantheon. He will likely have connections to Tiamat, Ereshkigal, and other Sumero-Babylonian deities.

Brighid is the Celtic goddess of the forge, inspiration, compassion and creativity, and a patron goddess of artists, craftsmen, and other creative types. In her mortal life, she may have connections to her parents, her siblings, or any of the Celtic pantheon.

Masauwu is a Hopi deity sometimes called the Skeleton Man, Keeper of Fire, Spirit of Death, and the Master of the Fourth (present) World. He is depicted as a dark-skinned man wearing a mask; sometimes the creature beneath this mask is described as handsome, sometimes as a disfigured monster. Connections to Native American deities and gods and goddesses of death or enlightenment are likely.

ADDITIONAL AVAILABLE TENANTS

Don't see a tenant that interests you? Other deities and pantheons are welcome - pick one of the active pantheons in the game, or talk to a mod if there's one you don't see, and make your modern god as you see him/her/it.

Holds and applications are being accepted for all available pantheons.
