Hermione watched her signature bluebell flame dance in its glass cage. She’d never thought about why it was so easy for her to summon fire, why it never bit her, sank claws into her friends, or ate her possessions. It was a well-trained pet, and she its master. She assumed that was how it was for everyone.

But after her talk with Professor Snape this afternoon, she began to wonder. Was she really a pyromancer?

He said it was a very rare talent. One she should keep secret given the upcoming war.

Looking at the flame, she thought, any advantage.

	When I reread the series before book 7 came out, I noticed how often early on in the series, they make reference to Hermione and her ability make fire. I was certain it would come up again in the last book, but never did. I felt the need to create my own closure. :p (Reply to this) (Parent)

He’d looked for hours, breathing greasy smoke from the surrounding devastation. He refused to think about what was in the smoke that choked him and focused on his search.

Harry saw her.

She couldn’t have been called beautiful before and she certainly wasn’t now. Her hair had been hacked off. She winced when she moved wrong and her eyes had fading yellow bruises underneath.

He hesitantly ghosted a finger down her shattered nose, continuing until he ended up at her bloody lip.

Standing there, outlined in the fires burning on the hillside, she was the best thing he’d ever seen.
