“Come on, come on. Why am I just sitting there? Ah ha. Hermione. Get me out. Out. Out already.” Harry waited, counting silently, hoping there was enough time. He thought there was. He didn’t remember sitting there this long. But then, finally, Hermione disappeared through the trap door and then his past self. He knew he didn’t return, but couldn’t take any chances and cast a locking spell on the trap door before he shrugged off the cloak and knelt beside Snape. He counted under his breath as he cast spell after spell; healing the wounds in Snape’s throat, checking for head trauma, checking Snape’s lungs, heart, kidneys, liver. He tipped a potion down Snape’s throat and cast the spell that sent the potion trickling down his throat and into his stomach. He cast another diagnostic spell, stood and stepped back. He took a deep breath and began to chant, waving his wand in an elaborate pattern. If he had done everything correctly, Snape would begin breathing on his own in a few moments. If he had done everything right. Harry grinned as Snape breathed again.

Snape gasped and opened his eyes. He didn’t move, though he didn’t sense anyone nearby. But just as the thought crossed his mind, green eyes, blinking behind chunky glasses, and messy black hair appeared hovering above him. Snape groaned.
“How do you feel?”
“Quiet,” Snape growled, not quite as forcefully as he hoped he would.
“You feel quiet?”
Snape glared. “You can’t do anything right.”
‘What have I done wrong, now?”
Snape couldn’t help but feel pleased at the weary tone. “Am I dead?”
“Nope.”
The answer was entirely too cheerful. “Is the Dark Lord dead?”
“Yep.”
Snape felt a shiver of hope course through him, followed quickly by dread. “Explain.”
“Which part?”
“All of it!” Snape barked and was pleased to see Potter’s countenance pale. Potter disappeared from view and Snape turned his head to find him, expecting pain and growing worried when he felt none at the movement. Potter had sat in a chair pulled up close to the side of the bed and was staring at Snape.
“You died. And then I went and looked at the memories you gave me. And then I went out to meet Voldemort and I died. But then I met Dumbledore at King’s Cross and came back to life. And then I fought Voledmort and killed him. And then I spent the next three years learning how to save your life.”
Snape frowned at the garbled explanation. “What have you done?” Snape asked breathlessly.
Potter grinned. “Didn’t turn you into an inferi, if that’s what you’re thinking.”
“Inferius,” Snape corrected.
“What?”
“Inferius is singular, Inferi is plural. What did you do?”
“Inferius,“ Potter muttered. He shook his head. “I did research and I took courses at St. Mungo’s and became a healer in training. Then I did more research about snake venom and what I had to do to heal someone who has succumbed to their injuries.”
“After three years?” Snape asked silkily.
“No,” Harry scowled. “I, er, stole a time turner and went back in time to just after you were killed and then saved you.”
Snape sat up, curious that it took no effort and he still felt fine. “You mean you traveled back three years into the past just so you could save my life?”
Harry grinned. “Yes, I did.”
Snape closed his eyes and counted silently to ten. “Are you out of your mind?” He opened his eyes and glared until the grin fell off of Harry’s face. “Did you think I wanted to be saved!?”
“Um, well, I didn’t think to ask you before you were killed.”
“I did not, Potter!”
“So you would’ve been happy to be killed by a snake?” Harry asked testily.
“I would have been dead! What do you think I have to live for?!”
Harry looked taken aback. “Oh, well, I didn’t think of that.”
“I doubt very much that you thought of anything beyond your own guilt!”
“That’s not fair!”
“And bringing me back to life and forcing me to spend the next three years with you is fair!?”
Harry frowned. “What?”
Snape closed his eyes and counted to ten again. “Tell me, Potter, did you actually learn anything during your years of schooling?”
“Learned enough to bring you back to life, didn‘t I,” Potter answered crossly. “Though I’m wondering now why I even bothered.”
“And perhaps you should have considered another’s feelings before charging in like the brainless hero you prefer to portray!”
“I did think of you, you git! I thought ‘hey, maybe Snape would’ve preferred to die in some more dignified way than being attacked by a snake in a cage’!”
“Bully for you! And now we have to spend the next three years together, in hiding, in order to avoid a temporal rift!”
Harry frowned. “A what?”
“Bloody hell, Potter,” Snape bit out. “Did you consider the implications of using a time turner before you used one?”
“I’ve used one before,” Potter answered resentfully.
“Do you remember the rules,” Snape asked, arching a brow.
Potter nibbled on his lip. “Oh, er, well.” He flushed and looked away. “I guess one of them is to keep it secret.”
“Do you recall the reasons for such a rule?” Snape asked softly.
“Um, er, well,” Potter cleared his throat. “Something about, you know, um, it being dangerous to, er, run into yourself.”
“And now you’ve dragged me into this situation with you,” Snape said softly and felt a thrill when Potter shivered.
“Well, you know. I do remember where I was. Most of the time. During those years I studied. And so. Er, you know. It shouldn’t be too difficult to avoid being seen by myself.”
“Along with all of your friends. And the press. And the ministry.” Snape suddenly roared, “And anyone else who might know you at all!”
Harry laughed awkwardly. “But that doesn’t mean you have to stay hidden. Right?” he finished hopefully.
“And do you think, if I went walking about and was seen by someone, that it would remain a secret for long? In which case you would cease your efforts to try and heal me. In which case you would not go back in time to heal me. In which case I would not be alive. In which case you would feel guilty for allowing me to die. In which case you would attempt to return in time and save me. In which case --”
“Alright, I get it!” Harry interrupted before Snape could continue. “I’m sorry.”
“And so,” Snape snarled. “We are stuck with each other for the next three years!”
Harry rubbed his nose and glared at Snape. “We’ll just have to go into hiding.”
“You think?” Snape asked sarcastically. Harry just glared at him. “Is that the sum total of your plan?” Harry continued to glare. After several minutes of silence, Snape asked, “Is it too much to hope that I might actually receive sustenance at some point?”
Harry stood, glared some more, and stomped out of the room.
**** Three Years Later ****
Harry groaned as Snape nibbled on his toes. “You know, we don’t have to go back.”
Snape looked down at him as he sucked on Harry’s big toe. Harry groaned again and let his head thump down on the bed. “You think perhaps it is wise for Harry Potter to go missing?” Snape threw Harry’s leg to the side and stretched out between his thighs. “You think, perhaps,” Harry groaned as Snape’s nose pressed into the juncture between his thigh and hip. “That it would be appropriate for Harry Potter, of all people, to disappear from the world?”
“I think if you keep on doing what you’re doing it’s an excellent idea.” Harry curled his hands in Snape’s hair and guided his mouth toward his cock. Snape, contrary as usual, refused to do more than run his nose up and down it.
“Do you recall the relationships you had before you plunged us into isolation?” Snape firmly removed Harry’s hands from his head and dipped down to nuzzle Harry’s balls.
Harry moaned as Snape’s nose pressed behind his balls and whimpered when he felt a tongue lap across his hole.
“If you do not answer me, Potter, I will cease all activities this instant.”
Harry fisted his hands in the sheets. “I, er, well, I was dating Ginny, oh, god, do that again.”
Snape chuckled and pushed his tongue inside Harry’s hole. There were no more questions, or complaints, for nearly an hour. They were lying with their heads on the same pillow both sweaty and sticky and Harry curled as close to Snape as possible. Snape ran a hand through Harry’s messy hair. “You’ll have to return, Potter.”
“Not going back without you,” Harry said through a yawn.
Snape sniffed and told himself he wasn’t trying to memorize Harry Potter’s scent after he had been thoroughly buggered . “I can’t go back, Harry. I’ve been dead three years.”
Harry sat up, wincing slightly when Snape’s fingers became untangled from Harry’s hair. “What?”
Snape sighed. “Did you tell anyone your intentions?”
“What intentions?”
“That you were learning medi-wizardry so you could travel back in time to save my life?”
Harry flushed and Snape certainly did not find it endearing. “Oh, er, no.”
“And when I return and we tell our tale?”
Harry sighed. “I suppose it’s illegal.”
“To break into the ministry, steal a time turner and travel back in time without proper authorization? Yes, it’s illegal.”
“’m not going back without you.”
Snape rolled his eyes and tugged Harry back down beside him. And he didn’t press the kiss to Harry’s forehead in order to console the boy. Or himself. “Of course you are, Potter. We went through this three years ago.”
Harry snuffled and pressed his face into Snape’s side. “I’m an idiot, aren’t I?”
“Yes, you are. And it’s only taken you twenty years to realize that.” Snape yelped as Harry pinched him hard in the side.
“So what should we do?”
“We? We will do nothing. You will return to the life you left three years ago.”
Harry propped his chin up on Snape’s chest. “What about you? What are you going to do?”
“I don’t know.” Snape answered softly and resolutely did not think that he would probably wish he were dead without having Potter underfoot everyday for the rest of his life.
