Mod Post: Guidelines for Prompts and Claiming
Guidelines for Prompts and Claiming Prompts:

Before we open up to receive prompts in a few hours, we just wanted to post a few guidelines for you guys to keep in mind while you're brainstorming away, and also to clarify a few questions we've been asked.

1. All prompts must be related to the HP universe. Everything is welcome, AU, AR, EWE, Canon, anything goes! And you can leave as many prompts as you like.

2. If at all possible, we would like the keep the prompts as open ship-wise as possible. Example:

Open Prompt: After the battle of Hogwarts, Harry goes back to find Snape's body. He realizes Snape is still alive and nurses him back to health.
Shippy Prompt: After the battle of Hogwarts, Harry goes back to find Snape's body. He realizes Snape is still alive and finds out the only way to nurse him to health is with repeated drawn-out snog sessions.

As you can see, the first prompt could be Snarry or could be Snape & Harry friendship, etc. The second one would have to be Snarry. Now if you were really keen on Snape being nursed back to health by snogging, you could rephrase the prompt like this:

Prompt: After the battle of Hogwarts, Snape is discovered clinging to life, and the only way to counteract the poison from Nagini's fangs is for Snape to get lots and lots of snogs. (prefer Snape/Harry or Snape/Hermione if at all possible)

Non-scenario prompts are more than welcome as well, like 'Fun with Bubble-wrap!'

3. Anyone can leave a prompt. You do not have to have an IJ as anonymous commenting is enabled. Also, leaving a prompt does not commit you to claiming a prompt later.

4. The prompt post will be open until Monday January 28th, 11:59 PM EST. At that point, your mods will be furiously gathering all the prompts together for a claiming post that will go up early evening (EST) on Tuesday January 29th.

5. Prompts will be available to be claimed once for fic and once for art, first come, first served.

6. If you are going to be out of town or away from the computer on January 29th and are worried about not being able to claim a prompt, someone else may claim for you on your behalf. Just make sure they put your username somewhere in the subject line or in the comment itself.

7. You may claim up to two prompts. Fics need to be at least 500 words and beta-read. Art obviously does not have a word-minimum but should be a bit more than a drawble. All fics and art are due by March 15th.

Any questions? Email festmods @ yahoo.com or comment here! The Open for Prompts post will be up later today!

Hi--I just want to clarify your question. You're talking about a writer taking two prompts and combining them into one submission or an artist doing the same, not a writer with one prompt and an artist with a different prompt combining to make one submission with both a story and a piece of artwork, correct?

Yes =)

Actually, your question brought up another question:
If someone is an author _and_ an artist, can s/he claim a prompt and do a story with illustration(s)?

Thanks!

Okay, I can answer that second one straight away--if you were an author and an artist, you could create a story and a companion piece of art or combine a piece of art with a companion drabble/ficlet. Or if you were an author and wanted to collaborate with an artist and put the art and story together for the same prompt, that's totally cool, too.

The one about two prompts going into one piece I have to confer with the other mods about, but I'll have an answer ASAP. :D

Hi, back again. :D

No, it is against the rules to claim two prompts for one piece. In other words, if you claim two prompts, two pieces need to be created. Obviously you can always use a second prompt as inspiration, but this will still leave the prompt open to be claimed by someone else, since each prompt will only be allowed to be claimed once for fic and once for art.

Also, keep in mind, each participant is only allowed to claim two prompts in all, unless when done with the two pieces, there are still claims left and the participant has enough time to create a third piece.
