Summary: Dumbledore’s death was something that he planned, but he didn’t really know what was going to happen next.
“Severus, please.”
Harry smiled and was glad the cloak hid him from view as his lover raised his wand and pronounced the spell that sent the manipulating Headmaster of Hogwarts to his death.
He nodded to himself and watched as the body of Albus Dumbledore fell over the wall and then raced down the stairs after Severus and the other Death Eaters.
“Stupe—“
“Blocked again and again and again until you learn to keep your mind closed and your mouth shut, Potter!” sneered Snape, deflecting the curse once more.
Harry could barely remember the rest of that evening. His mind was too full of elation. The images and actions of the people around him seemed to move in rapid bursts one moment, and then slower than a turtle on a Sunday morning walk the next. The words he spoke as well as the statements and questions others had buzzed in his ears like so many flies. Harry made the appropriate noises of grief when people asked him about Dumbledore’s death, and when he was asked to give an account of what he’d seen on the Astronomy tower, he was able to summon just the right amount of outrage.
Three days Later, Dumbledore’s funeral was held. It was a grand affair, and there were so many people in attendance that the Quidditch pitch had to be used to hold the guests who wanted to say one last goodbye to the most popular Headmaster Hogwarts had ever known. Harry sat with the Weasley family and the professors near the front. He managed not to role his eyes or look bored while the service went on, but once it was finished, he left as quickly as he could, telling Professor McGonagall that he needed some time to be alone. She nodded sympathetically at him and made his excuses.
They met six weeks later in a small hotel in Yorkshire. Harry clung almost desperately to his lover, and Severus allowed it, knowing how much his younger partner needed the physical contact after being apart for so long. Once he’d pulled himself together, Harry released him with a sheepish smile and sank down on the bed with a huge sigh.
“One down,” Harry commented glibly. “Have we gotten all the horcruxes yet?”
“Yes. The only one left is the locket, and you just did that one last night. Now, all you need to do is kill him. Don’t under estimate him, brat. Are you sure you’re ready?”
“I’m as ready as I’m ever going to get,” Harry replied. “I don’t want to wait anymore.”
“You’ve come,” Voldemort said blandly. “I knew it was only a matter of time.”
“Third time’s the charm, or so they say,” Harry remarked. “The second attempt didn’t go so well, and I’ve destroyed all of your horcruxes. What other choice do you have?”
“Where is the rotten apple amidst the fruit?” Voldemort asked sardonically.
“Well, that all depends on how you really feel about Severus Snape. He’s my lover, and if you do agree to my terms, you’ll be fucking him, a lot. I’m young, and I like sex.”
Voldemort burst out laughing. Harry merely stood beside his throne waiting for his mirth to fade. Once it had, his enemy turned once more to face him with a smirk.
“Very well then, you impertinent little brat; I’ll agree to your terms.”
Harry flashed a grin and then stuck out a hand. He and Voldemort shook on it, and Severus felt a chill run down his spine as the fate of Wizarding England was sealed.
Three days later, Wizarding England went into shock as the Dark Lord made his first public appearance. He was wearing a very familiar face. Beside him stood one of the most powerful and intelligent wizards in all of Europe. The Dark Lord introduced Severus Snape to the public as his consort, and promised that if any harm came to his beloved, the people would pay dearly for daring to hurt one who was favored by him.
When Molly Weasley read the article, she fainted. Ginny screamed for over an hour and then had to be taken to St. Mungos to help treat her suddenly unstable mind. Hermione and Ron held each other tightly and cried when they saw the picture of the Dark Lord. They had known that their friend had been doing the research that would transfer a soul from one body to another, but they had had no idea he would take things so far. The rest of the Weasley family were too shocked to do more than stare at one another and shake their heads if asked any questions by anyone. When the staff and students at Hogwarts read the article, chaos ensued. Headmistress McGonagall had to declare a half-day in order to give everyone time to adjust to the huge political and emotional change that had just taken place. Indeed, she needed the time herself. Somehow, things had not gone as Dumbledore had planned. Now, it was too late to do anything to change any of it.
