Five of Spades:
The coffin foretells acute illness or loss of property when near the person; when distant, a probability of averting evil.
"Remus? Remus!"
Remus hurries into the kitchen, book still in hand. "Yes, Kingsley? What is it?"
"Is Teddy with you?"
"No, Andromeda stole him away this morning. Is everything alright?"
"You need to get to St. Mungo's right now. It's Harry."
Remus grabs the back of the chair next to him, knees threatening to give out. "No. Is it bad?"
"The healers aren't sure yet. C'mon, we can talk once you're here."
"Right. Let me just leave a note for Andromeda." Remus conjures paper and ink, penning a note reading little more than 'Harry's injured, no word yet'.
Remus floos into the waiting room of St. Mungo's where Kingsley is waiting for him. "What happened?" he asks as they head to the lifts.
"We don't know. It was just a routine mission, rather too easy for someone of Harry's skills, but something went wrong. Harry's the only one of the three Aurors that've made it back yet," Kingsley answers, tapping his wand against the button panel. "We've got him in the secured ward until we can figure out what happened out there."
Harry is in better condition visibly than Remus had expected, given Kingsley's reaction, but he was still unconscious, seizures wracking his body every few minutes.
"They've already given him the strongest muscle relaxant they can, but it's done nothing, as you can see," Kingsley says, steering Remus to a chair on the opposite side of a glass wall from Harry. "They've ruled out the Cruciatus Curse as the cause, but there's nothing to say it isn't a potion causing this."
"What I wouldn't give to have Severus here right now, if it is a potion," Remus sighs, thinking of his fallen comrade.
Kingsley gives a rather strained chuckle. "He was a spiteful old bastard, but he knew his stuff."
"Err, the other two Aurors?" Remus asks cautiously.
"No one you'd know, I don't think. A few years older than Harry, the both of them, but not part of the Order." He glances at Remus before continuing, "I don't believe Tonks knew them either."
"Right." Remus glances down at the wedding band he still wears, three years after his wife's death. Perhaps it's finally time for him to move on.
"Auror Shacklebolt?"
Both men turn to look at the healer's aide standing in the door.
"Aurors Stephens and Llewellyn have both been found," she says nervously. "They both show signs of a recently mis-cast Obliviation spell, but the mind Healers are already working on them."
"Great." Kingsley stands. "I'll go see them then, and find out if anything's been uncovered about what's been done to Harry." He follows the aide out.
Apart from a Healer keeping watch over Harry, there's no one else in the rooms. Remus opens the door and steps up to Harry's bedside. "Can I?" he asks the Healer.
"I'll just go in the other room and give you some privacy then," the older man says, giving Remus a slight smile.
"Thanks." Remus pulls a chair over to sit in and takes Harry's hand in his. "You think I'd have learned the last time around," he whispers to Harry's currently still form. "But I suppose I need things like this to remind me how important it is to let others in. I just... find it hard to believe I might find happiness with one person in my life, let alone a second." Remus takes a deep breath and squeezes Harry's hand. "When you wake up from all of this, I promise to stop running away long enough for us to talk about it."
Remus sits, still holding Harry's hand as he suffers through another seizure, the bindings on the bed preventing any further injury.
Kingsley barrelling through the door some time later startles Remus. "We've got it!" He grabs Remus' shoulder and pulls him back out to the viewing room. "Hopefully there won't be any damage. Harry was only spelled for a few hours."
"What was it?" Remus asks, watching the swarm of Healers around Harry's bed.
"A rather old and nasty Persian curse, one that can only be halted by a specific counter-spell, which is why the potion didn't help earlier. They'll probably want to keep an eye on him for a couple more days, but once it's removed he should wake up soon."
"Good." Remus lets out a sigh of relief and sags back into his chair.
It's not much later when the Healer from earlier waves Remus forward. "Mister Potter would like to say something to you before he'll take a sleeping draught."
"Err, right." Remus sits on the side of the bed, his earlier chair having disappeared, as the Healers clear out of the room.
"Hey," Harry whispers, a slight smile on his face. He slides his hand into Remus' and tugs the other man closer. "Just so you know, I'm gonna hold you to what you said earlier," he says, then presses a kiss to Remus' lips. "I'm not going anywhere anytime soon, after all," he adds once he pulls back.
Remus flushes. "I didn't realize..." He glances down at their hands and makes a decision. "But once you wake up, again, I'll be here." He leans forward and kisses Harry's forehead, then slides of the room to let Harry sleep.
