Summary: The morning after his transformation, Remus has a helper.
Remus lay on the cold floor of the dungeon, trembling from the transformation and the ebb of magic. He reached out for the blanket he’d set near him the evening before, but couldn’t seem to find it in the darkness.
This time was bad. The wolfsbane potion that Severus had brewed worked just fine. That wasn’t the problem. The real issue was when Moony caught a familiar scent in the air. In the haze of this morning, Remus couldn’t remember what kind of scent it was, but the wolf wanted to find it the night before.
He looked down at his hands. His fingernails were nearly torn off and there were slivers all over his fingertips and palms.
From the shadows, someone wrapped a warm blanket around his shoulders and cast a warming charm on him. “You are not doing well this morning,” Severus said softly. “I... do not like to see you like this. Did the potion not work this time?”
Remus pulled the blanket around him. “I’m glad you’re here, Severus. The potion worked fine. There was something else, though.”
Severus sat next to Remus and put his arm around his shoulder. “Distractions from a previous life?”
Remus nodded. “What time is it?”
“Half past five. But it’s Saturday. We need not be anywhere for another four hours. Do not rush yourself.”
“I should get some clothes on,” Remus said softly. His robes were still folded up in the far corner, protected by a concealment charm. He’d learned early on that he needed to make sure he wasn’t wearing anything important when he went through these nights.
“Just your robe should be fine.” Severus reached up and massaged Remus’s neck. “You probably need sleep. I’ll take you back to your room.”
“Thank you.”
It took Severus a while to get Remus up off of the floor and into his robes. Every time the man moved, Severus could hear his bones cracking and popping. The fact that he went though this every month and never went insane was nothing short of a miracle, indeed.
He led Remus up the back stairway near the twisted dragon statue, and down the corridor at the far end of Gryffindor tower. They wouldn’t meet any students taking this route, and the only faculty and staff that might possibly be out in this part of the castle were the Headmaster, Professor McGonagall, and possibly Filch. If they ran into any of those three, they would all understand, and no explanations would be necessary.
They finally arrived at Remus’s quarters, and Severus saw his lover in to his room.
“You should sleep,” Severus said as he helped Remus out of his robe and into bed.
“Stay with me.”
“I don’t want to--”
“No, please, I would like your company, if you will.” Remus moved over to the far side of the bed and turned down the covers. “Please, Severus?”
Severus nodded. He undressed carefully, setting all of his clothes aside on the one chair in the room, and climbed into bed next to Remus. Remus settled in, curling his nude body against the flesh of his lover. “I think I can sleep better like this. You’re warm and comfortable, and you have a comforting scent.”
Severus leaned down and nuzzled the top of Remus’s head. He gently smoothed one hand down Remus’s chest and then pulled in a little closer. He could feel Remus’s cock against his hip, and the idea of him sent a jolt through his body. “I’m glad you... approve.”
“Severus, I do more than approve of you, how can I get you to believe me? I love you.”
“I understand that.”
Remus let his hand drift down Severus’s chest, and brushed against his cock. “Oh. I’m... Severus, I’m sorry, but--”
“Don’t say it.” Severus picked up Remus’s hand and put it on his chest. “You need to sleep. I’ll stay here until you wake.”
“Thank you, Severus.” It was then that Remus realized that although Severus may never say it, he had other ways of showing how much he cared.
