Part 27
Where: Los Angeles When: May, 2004
“I’d like to thank you for helping with that Demon,” Angel said, as he escorted Remus and the Doctor up to his office.
“That’s really not necessary,” said the Doctor. “We were in the right place at the right time is all.” He glanced at Remus, grinning.
They hadn’t really done anything, anyway. Remus had stunned the demon and pushed him into a dumpster. The Doctor used his sonic screwdriver to seal the dumpster closed. That was when Angel arrived on the scene; he’d been tracking the demon for the last few blocks and was more than happy to finish it off.
“I insist on compensating you,” Angel said. “You’ve saved me an evening of work.” As they reached the penthouse office, Remus caught the scent of something unmistakable. He stepped closer to the Doctor, feeling protective and cautious. The elevator door opened and a lovely young woman stood there. “Nina?” Angel asked. He looked at her closely. “What’s the matter?”
Just as he said this, the Doctor looked at Remus. “Remus, what’s the matter?”
Nina stared at Remus. “He’s a werewolf.”
She said this just as Remus said, “She’s a werewolf.”
Angel furrowed his brow. “Looks like my evening of work is just beginning after all.”

It was a good thing Nina wasn’t territorial. It was also a good thing that Remus hadn’t immediately pursued Angel. He’d seemed somewhat receptive to Remus’ touches and looks. Moreover, Remus had never had a vampire… and this vampire was much different from the few Remus had met in the past. He kept remembering passages about from the first edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Then again, he remembered what the textbooks had said about werewolves. And nowhere in the books did it say anything about vampires with souls running evil law firms.
Remus supposed this was a life he could get used to, though. They understood about things like magic. They seemed to have suitable facilities to hold werewolves during full moon nights and not a lot of bias towards them. In addition, Angel and his crew seemed genuinely interested in saving the world. Except for the evil law firm thing, it seemed a pretty good deal. It seemed like a place Remus might be able to settle down in for the long-term.
“Hey there. I think you’ve stolen my spot.” Remus looked up the stairs to see the platinum blonde vampire in his black duster descending towards him. “Remus, right?”
Remus nodded. “And you’re… forgive me…”
“Spike.” The vampire sat down next to Remus. “Havin’ a bit of a think, luv?”
Remus nodded again.
“Mind some company?”
Remus shook his head. “It’s a little overwhelming, this. I mean, a law firm?”
Spike chuckled. “Yeah. Still not sure why the big wigs handed their keys to the kingdom to Captain Forehead up there, but so it goes. Got some resources, sure, but this isn’t the kind of heroics I like. I like getting’ my hands dirty, bein’ out there with the people, you know? Not this bloody waiting around and doing paperwork. Sure you can save the world with a pen, but it doesn’t have the same feel as a fight, does it?”
Remus was forced to agree wholeheartedly.
“You ever saved the world, Remus?”
Shrugging, “A few times.” And then, before he could stop himself, he was confessing all to Spike. Spike listened without judging as Remus explained about the war, the deaths of his friends, the downfall of Voldemort, the betrayal that made it all possible, and the aftermath. He told about his life before the Doctor and a little bit of his travels with the Doctor.
Spike stayed quiet until Remus got to the bit about Giles, and then Spike’s eyebrows rose and he barged in. “Always knew that watcher was a pofter.”
Remus laughed. “I’m sorry. I’ve been talking your ear off. You’re probably ready to kill me.”
“Not at all, luv. Nice to talk to another Brit, to tell you the truth. Don’t get a lot of chance to just kick back lately. Seems like it’s just one thing after another. And I’ve got some experience in taking confessions.” Spike shook his head. “Not what it sounds like. It’s just that some people tend to find it easier to talk to the dead about their problems. Cause they know I’ve been there, you know? I’ve seen the darkness. I had to fight to get my soul back and I’d do it again. Even if I sort of did it for a girl.”
Remus straightened up. Naturally. The one he spends forever confessing to happens to be straight. And, Merlin, he was on fire. “Well, thanks. But I guess I’ve taken up too much of your time…”
“I’ll tell you when I’ve had enough,” he said. He put his hand against Remus’ cheek and kissed him. “You’re in heat?” he asked.
Remus nodded sheepishly. “I’m sorry. I can’t help it.”
“I think I might be able to.”
“But I thought you said a girl…”
“Sure did. But that doesn’t mean I don’t like the boys just as much. Or… maybe more.” He kissed Remus again. “I’ve got a flat a ways from here. It’s not much, but it’s privacy… and it’s not an office building.”
Remus thought briefly about grabbing Spike and just finding an empty office. He’d never had sex in a cubicle before. Might be fun to squeeze under a desk and get fucked amongst the wires and staplers, underneath the florescent lights. But this place was evil. Remus could feel it. “All right,” Remus said. “Give me a moment to tell the Doctor I’ll be back in a few hours.”
*
Spike was… well, there was really no word for him, was there?
Remus’ nipples were sore from Spike’s tiny nipple clamps, but then Spike snuggled up to him and sucked on Remus’ nipples until they felt normal again. Remus was so exhausted, but couldn’t even fathom falling asleep. Remus lost track of how many times he came in the span of an hour, but then Spike would touch him in a new way to make him ready to come all over again.
Spike was cool to the touch- room temperature, exactly- but next to Remus’ heat, he warmed up. It was as though Remus was bringing life to him. And for just that one second, the vampire’s heart almost beat and his chest almost inflated with breath. He was an old soul, giving and caring, but also ruthless and fierce in bed.
“That’s it,” Remus gasped, collapsing back against the carpeted floor. They’d rolled off the bed together during their last escapades. Spike had broken his fall, then had healed before Remus could be concerned about him. “I can’t take any more.”
Kissing the nape of Remus’ neck, the blonde vampire shook his head. “You’ve got more in you. You can’t give up on me that easily.” Spike flicked his tongue against one of Remus’ nipples and Remus’ back arched instinctively. “I rest my case.”
“Ohhh you’re evil,” Remus breathed. He suddenly felt his legs being lifted and Remus didn’t protest. Spike started fucking and stroking him at the same time. Remus slapped his hands against the carpet, trying to anchor himself on something. He found the foot of the bed and gripped it tightly. Then he turned his head to the side and was shocked at what he saw.
There, in the floor-to-ceiling mirror on the closet door, he saw himself just as he was. He saw himself lying on his back on the carpet. He saw his legs bent and up in the air. He saw his cock throbbing and pulsing with each stroke. Yet, that was all he saw. Spike’s reflection wasn’t there at all. It was strange to see himself being fucked and stroked by some invisible force. Some invisible force that was highly stimulating. Some invisible source that was much older that he was and damn good at this.
That girl Spike had told him about who had run off the Italy didn’t know what she was missing. But could he spend the rest of his life here, like this?
Yes. Yes he could.
And yet… this didn’t feel just right. It wasn’t just about finding somewhere to settle down. And even though Remus was certain this place would be a good fit for him… there was something else. Or… someone else.
