LMOM: Where, When, Why, Who & Howl Part 16
Yesterday I TOTALLY meant to give a thank you to my LJ flist & Twitter peeps and Lady K especially for help on DS9 currency issues I was stuck on. So thank you!
And also, yay for the halfway mark! I'm looking at my outline and there are way more fandoms to cover than I'll be able to fit into a month. Which do I get rid of? Ack! I swear, this has been the worst May ever for me and LMOM has been such a bright spot in it. I seriously would have gone mad days ago if not for it. I can't wait to properly read/view/review everyone's entries! Congrats to all of you who gave it your all and those of you still in it!
And now, on to the header and part, such as it is:

Part 16
Where: New York City
When: 1995
Remus struggled again at his bonds. And, again, got nowhere. He sighed in frustration and leaned back against the wall. To his left hung the Doctor and to his right was Vince. “I still want to know how Vince knew it was the… what did you two call them?”
“The Daleks. And I can’t imagine how he knew but he certainly wasn’t prepared for them.” At the sight of the tank-like mutants, with their blinking lights and plunger-like arm, Vince had promptly passed out.
Remus was still a bit fuzzy on the details, but from what he could figure out, the Daleks were using some other alien race to do their bidding. These blue-skinned aliens had been the ones to take the Doctor and his companions prisoners. Then the Daleks had turned on the other aliens and, well, exterminated them.
“How’s he doing?”
“Vince?” Remus leaned to the side, trying to angle his elbow to nudge, but succeeding in touching his knee to Vince’s instead. Vince remained limp and unconscious, however. Remus sighed. “All right. I’ve had it. I need something or someone to distract the guard so I can get out of these restraints and get to my wand.”
The Doctor paused for a moment. “If I’ve done the maths right, you’re about to get one.”
As though on cue, there was an explosion that shook the whole building. Following that, the sound of gunfire could be heard downstairs. Perfect. The one and only Dalek guarding them rolled out towards the hall to see what was happening. Remus took that opportunity to mutter a silent spell that made the cuffs spring open for him. He dropped down several feet, landing deftly, and lunged for his wand. He’d worked out ahead of time what spells to use, and the second his hand closed around the wooden handle he started hurling curses at the alien.
The first began to shrink it. The second coated it in thick foam. The third froze the foam into something as solid as concrete. Remus knew it wouldn’t last forever, but a Dalek no taller than your ankles, embedded in several meters of concrete wasn’t really much of a threat. Remus turned and got the Doctor down from where he’d hung on the wall by his bound wrists.
Remus tucked his wand away and threw his hands into the air to display his innocence as he heard footsteps in the stairwell. The cops that chose their room to storm into were probably a lot nicer than they should have been, considering the circumstances, even though they came in with their guns drawn.
“What happened?” Remus asked innocently. “Those things…”
Once the two had established there was no threat, they relaxed. They talked to people on the chirping walkie-talkies they carried, then dealt with the situation at hand. “You’re incredibly lucky to be alive,” said the brown-haired officer. He patted Remus’ back.
“What’s wrong with your friend here?” asked the other officer. This one had even darker hair.
Both men were pretty good-looking and suddenly Remus could picture himself back up on the wall, hanging there, pleasurably at their mercy. Remus answered, “Those things roughed him up and were about to do the same to us.” Remus gestured to the Doctor. He figured it really didn’t hurt to let Vince keep a little dignity.
“Well it’s all right. You’re safe now. We don’t know what happened exactly, but there was some sort of explosion down at street level. There was something in it that stopped those creatures cold.” Remus made a conscious effort to not look at the Doctor knowingly. It had taken them far longer to work that out than Remus had been comfortable with, and the three of them had only just managed to set the timer and hide it properly when the Daleks captured them.
The first step was obviously to get Vince down. Remus couldn’t safely use magic now without being noticed, so he played innocent and let the police officers handle Vince. “You can hit that mark,” said the one with black hair. He gripped his partner’s shoulder. “You’re the best shot in the division.”
The other officer took out his weapon, still hesitating and doubtful. “What if I miss?”
“You won’t,” game the officer’s whispered reply. “I know you can do this.”
With a deep breath, the brown-haired officer raised his weapon, aimed carefully, and shot. The bullet stuck a spot several feet in the air above Vince, right where the chains were bolted to the wall. Vince fell and the officers dashed forward, catching him before he fell. The black-haired one carried Vince down the stairs, followed by Remus and the Doctor, with the other officer bringing up the rear.
Down on the street, things were chaotic to say the least. The Daleks hadn’t been the only ones caught in the explosion, and Remus went deathly cold at the sight, more shocked by that than he had been at any time the Daleks had him. Even the Doctor’s arm around him didn’t help make him feel better. “Thanks,” Remus said anyway. The Doctor stayed with him a moment, then moved on to survey the damage.
Remus, however, sat down on the back bumper of an open but empty ambulance and watched the scene, removed from it. The street looked blasted apart, and several dead bodies lay around him. There were far more injured than killed, and Remus knew not all of them had been caught in the blast- the Daleks had probably exterminated a number as well- but none of that made it any easier to see. This must have been what it looked like that day. The day after Voldemort’s downfall. The day when Sirius killed all those innocent muggles and Peter, too. Remus shivered violently then heard familiar voices.
“Here, Dee, there’s a free stretcher over here. Put him down.” The cops eased Vince down onto a stretcher just a meter or so from where Remus sat. The brown-haired one held out his hand. “Dee, give me your jacket.”
The black-haired one, apparently called Dee, scowled. “Why mine?”
“Mike’s soaked with blood. C’mon, Dee.”
Dee reluctantly removed his jacket and handed it to his partner, who abruptly turned to Remus. He draped it around Remus’ shoulders. Remus was startled to have been noticed in the first place, but then he slipped his arms through the sleeves of the police jacket.
“You’re probably in shock,” said the officer whose name Remus hadn’t yet caught. “This is a lot to go through. We’ll get you checked out but right now they’re tending to the more critical cases. Can I get you some water or hot tea or anything?”
“He doesn’t need tea, Ryo,” said Dee. “Doubt anything’ll help except maybe a flask of whiskey.”
“Dee!” Ryo chided. “You’re not helping!”
Dee pointed. “That’s my coat he’s wearing. I’m helping! Or was that just a ploy to get me more undressed?” he said softly, thinking only Ryo could hear it. His eyebrow rose suggestively, however.
Remus cracked a smile at this. Their repertoire was all-too familiar. These two were the splitting image of himself and Sirius back in the day. Facing down the bad guys side by side, the subtly sexual banter whenever they thought they wouldn’t be overheard, and they even looked the parts. Though, to Remus’ eyes, Dee wasn’t quite as handsome as Sirius had been. Was. Had been.
“Are you two a couple?” Remus asked as tactfully as he could, though the circumstances weren’t especially conducive to polite conversation.
The two officers froze, looking at each other then back at Remus. Dee moved closer to Remus and grinned. “I wish! But someone’s playing hard to get.” He pointed a thumb at Ryo. Yes. So very much like Sirius. Remus shivered again.
Ryo shook his head. His cheeks were bright red. “This isn’t really the time or place…”
Remus laughed to himself. Time and place were everything to him lately. “I’m sorry. It’s just…” and he suddenly found himself sounding like Vincent. “I can tell things about people and you two… you belong together.” He looked over at Dee. “But you’d better not hurt him.”
Remus got up and handed the jacket back, feeling remarkably warmer now. “Thank you both for saving me and my friends. And I hope you’ll take the time to appreciate what a special thing you have here.” Remus then made his way through the crowd, careful where he stood and who he touched, until he located the Doctor. “I think we should go now, before anyone wants to question us. We can grab Vince and I can apparate us to the TARDIS.”
“Are you all right?” the Doctor asked as they walked back towards the ambulances.
Remus shrugged. Under any other circumstances he would have liked to have had both of those men. Usually there was nothing so fantastic as an adventure of a near death experience to get his heart pounding and his libido like it was working in overdrive. But today he had looked at those men and all he’d wanted was for them to have each other. “Right now I’m not. But I think I will be.”
They dropped Vince off at his flat. The Doctor couldn’t quite be sure of the date and time, because the TARDIS wasn’t always as exact as it should have been, but he claimed it was soon enough after their last trip to Manchester for Vince to wake up and conceivably believe it was all a dream. Remus offered to modify his memory but wouldn’t have had the heart to do it even if the Doctor had said yes to that. It didn’t seem right to deprive him of those memories… even if the last ones had terrified him.
Remus’ sex drive was officially on the fritz now, though he didn’t say a word about it to the Doctor. At one moment, he could be so turned on by practically nothing (and the last practically nothing had been merely glancing in Vince’s direction) that he would have to rush to the water closet to desperately have at himself, fisting his cock in his jeans, not even wasting time to get it out first. And the next moment he couldn’t even make his cock twitch in the direction of an erection, even after trying to call up his standby, trusty wank fantasies. He tried thinking back over the past few weeks and the past few fucks, hoping something might inspire him, but the only one that moved him was the last one. At the time, he thought it would heal him. All it had done was make things infinitely worse.
