Where are we? What's going on?

Why does, I hate to say it, but what on Earth happened to the functionality and linear nature of time in this place?

Also, if someone is willing to part with a bucket of paint in exchange for perhaps a minor miracle, I would appreciate it. I'm not sure if I can stomach the sight of any more blood.
