Oh I like that too. He probably followed her career as much as he could after she went her own way. There'd be plenty of sentiment and nostalgia for his *first* celebrity, so he'd be very excited to see her, albeit sad for the difficult times she's had. Would he have known anything of her identity? I don't think he would have strictly needed to. As a new private practitioner he wouldn't have had a ton of leverage to make demands at the time, and likely would have accepted it if offered her as a patient under assumed names.
