as you should! he's very technical. he came up in camera, so that's the way he leans, but he is also an actor (he swears he's going to stop, but also no one thought hereditary would make any money so he slipped in another role before his kind-of retirement from acting). he also gets kind of method-y for an actor, but doesn't have a lot of sympathy for anyone who chooses that route. he's big on trusting his actors. they do one-on-ones during prep, but on set he needs them to trust their instincts and he'll guide them as necessary. he loves collaborative to a degree, at a certain point he's very decisive and, "we're doing it my way." he can come off as very intense and very serious (just think of jon snow's pensive stares - he does that a lot). but he does love to kick it with crew and cast on weekends - and in fact, get pretty wild with them. with her, she was dream casting? i think he would've written the role for her never thinking he'd get her. so when she was interested, he would've wanted to meet with her a couple of times before prep fully kicked in to tailor the role more specifically for her. he would've been careful about his initial flirtations since he's a first time director, but he's not very subtle. he is very good at separating work from play though (though, there would've been a few times he would've happily crossed that line if she'd invited it).
also lightman played her son and the writer says he would've been really demanding of ben's time since he'd have bouts of insecurity. how was she like to work with/would've handled their extracurricular activities?
